i thought it was odd that there are no crossbows, your Father even mentions them right at the start when he says i can teach you swordplay, but then somebody might shoot you with a cross bow...
@@Ledabot I've found a pretty easy way to abuse the combat system already, since I have no clue how to properly use feints and combos.. I just rush at them, when we get pressed up against each other I quickly press RB/RT, and after I push them back it gives me a free hit. I will just keep doing this, or countering their attacks. I really want to learn how to even use combos, but it just gets parried all the time and Id rather not run out of stamina in a 1v3 lmao
Bro, I killed Runt in literally 2 hits. A stab to the chest with piercer longsword and a counter/stab, done. I was left disappointed lol, I generally enjoy the challenge of fighting harder enemies? Since I've mastered swordplay mechanics.
Kunesh (the peasant who beat you) seems to have been a war veteran whose wife left him and he turned into an alcoholic. Just a couple events that point to that. One is simply how high his brawling skill is (as you noticed). Another is when Skalitz is under attack, you can see him form up with a pole arm and successfully help defend the gate for a while. The last is that (if you kill him and loot his corpse) you find that he's wearing a worn out, foot soldier's waffenrock.
That's actually how we say "bye" in Lithuanian. "Sudiev" is short for "Su Dievu" which means "With God" so in a context of saying goodbye you say go with God. And we're not even that religious as a people, most people even forget the real meaning of the word.
We actually still use it in Czech. "Sbohem" is a common way to say goodbye and it means "with God". In villages, even "S Pánem Bohem" same use, means "With Lord God". So as far as I can tell it is historically accurate.
The thing that struck me the most about this game, is that it transports you to the medieval world in the most realistic way possible. When you go inside, there are no bright lights to light it. Only candles which only shed a limited amount of light. It really captures that medieval scenery.
@@BrandonhayhewPretty sure they had problems adding in crossbows for whatever reason. And I know a few times in the game they do mention guns but mention them not being nearby yet or something like that. Atleast they didn’t exclude them entirely and atleast mention them.
I've put like 30 hours in, played all the side missions where you clear camps of bandits. Mother Of God So much coin.. Managed to get the best armour out there, best gambeson, even a iupon over the cuirass. I have the best slashing sword, and best thrusting sword at around 70-80 of each stat. Console really needs some improvement to optimization :c Render distance is terrible, I'm at a point where Henry doesn't even do a normal standing pose in the inventory where I admire my armour, he just T-poses. Spent 6k+ on my armor and that's what i get. Spend around 4k on my horse, matching coat on my horse to match my armour and HENRY JUST TPOSES INSIDE THE HORSE ITS IMMENSELY UPSETTING
Ianpresident And the zoomed shot if his shoulder, lol. Sometimes Henry's head would get right in front if the camera, but he had no eyes and you could see the background through his eye sockets. Disturbing and hilarious.
You can buy pointy shoe at the cobblers place and the fluff for it talks about how they are in style and no one ever says pebbles is a war horse he is just a random horse from the stables given to you by a guy who didn't like or want you going with him although I agree with the rest
One of the greatest things about this game is, that it is completely modifiable. So if you want to add crossbow in this game and you know well the cry engine, you can simply add it in! And share it with others! Just like in old call of duties.
The archery is just practice, I had to practice quite a lot, but at the end the reward of getting it right made me very happy. Now on a replay I enjoyed my previous skills and wasn´t so difficult to use it
I've seen these exact hinges on historical bascinets from that period. They're not side hinges, but a way to put on a mask with pins on a usual up and down hinge on both sides. Hope I put it half way understandable :D
@@Wveth his point was that all three weren’t on there at the same time. Hinges depended on the bascinet type and was a mounting system for a specific visor. Some bascinets had one hinge above the forehead as a mounting system for a klappvisor or a Bretache. A normal bascinet had no hinges and no external camail or Vervelles, but it did have an internal liner. A fully visored bascinet was the one that knights normally wore and it had hinges on the side for the visor to be mounted.
I just got the game this past week, and it has me blown away. For the historical issues, if there is a sequel, they should retain their historical person (because her work pertaining to her specialty is amazing), and supplement her with at least a couple specialists with complementary specialties. Realism is, after all, the biggest selling point of the game. Now to go buy a better horse. When ambushed by 5 Cumans, I can't put up with my horse getting spooked and bucking me. Sorry, Pebbles.
I so fell in love with the countryside, I don't know as much on styles and art, but the architecture, country and fighting system was so fun. I am eagerly awaiting what warhorse will come up with next.
The first part of this review is Metatron being the ultimate fashionista. Overall good review bud! Your channel is one of my favorite for this level of nerdom
KCD 2 is coming and I can't wait to see what they have improved in terms of historical accuracy. Sadly I think they will keep the same theme with the clothes and armor, not really accurate. But if there's one studio I believe could replace like half the outfits from their previous game for the sake of accuracy, it's Warhorse.
I would very much appreciate it if you can do some gameplay videos of this game. Particularly as I still live on a PS3 and have no means to upgrade to a PS4. I am tempted very much by this game, but perhaps you can help me out a bit there. As I am a historical horsegeek, they indeed could do so much more with their horsies. As you learn using weapons, you also can improve your riding abilities (nobody can ride a fully trained warhorse from day 1 of ever mounting a horse, believe me).
Yeah a pc would be good also I'm playing this on PC and haven't come across that many bugs it's pretty good but the beat part is there is a free mod for unlimited saves Haha!
MravacKid Did you gey one of those crappy pre-builds? Mine is custom and about 4-5 years old, it can run doom 4 on low. But yeah its time to get a new one. Still it lasted more than the console gen and has given me better performance orver a ps 4. Worth it. It wasnt that expensive for its time too.
I love KCD. Warhorse clearly has a lot of passion for this product and you, as a player, can feel that. I really want them to do well, make some money and put out more amazing games like this. I see they really listen to the feedback they get from their customers (unlike fucking Bethesda) so hopefully they can use great reviews like this in their advantage.
I love Kingdom Come Deliverance. It's an amazing game that really immerses you in medieval Europe. Most of the bugs have now been fixed. It's a pity that it's not totally historically accurate but nothing is perfect. I enjoyed the original save system and it should still be optional.
tbh, about the firearms, you mentioned the hussite war while the game is set before it im not sure this province would have used them in their small conflicts and as sir divish mentioned "we have no gunpower here" and i belive using paintings as an scale for the armour waist might not be viable, there must be an authentic medieval armor that can be used as reference for the waist and yes, i did missed crossbows in this game
There are plenty of extant armors, and they all have tight waists The reason paintings are used as a great source are because they match the extant armors. This has led to the conclusion that people back then knew what they drew. The point is that not many authors would draw stuff that did not exist, because that would just confuse people. By sticking to armor components that existed, they showed that they were depicting real stuff
Draugr_the_Greedy Medieval artists actually depicted pagans and infidels/bad guys with completely strange armor like helmets shaped like conches, so be careful about thinking that everything you see in a manuscript was used and actually existed.
Metatron I love you and your videos, you truly are a gem! But I have to say for this one. No, handheld firearms definitely shouldn’t be present in the villages of Bohemia in 1403.
The crotch has to be shown as some of the pants are consisted of two parts. One for every leg. They are tied with the rope/belt on the waist, with the crotch being an empty part that is filled with the underwear. I love Metatron, but this video always make me kinda angry because this game doesn't deserve half an hour of critism. There were dozens of historians working with the developers including a history professor, not even saying that the dev team itself loves history. They had to do years of research and they had to make whole books of historical sources. I'm just saying that in my perspective this game doesn't deserve so much critism, those are so many small details from which some aren't even true, but at the end of the day if a historical enthusiast sees this video he might become discouraged from buying the game.
20:25 I think his name is Pashek. I didn't have this problem because I accidentally killed him while brawling at the very start of the game. It was my very first fight and I was almost defeating him, but he dropped my health to an amount that makes the game go "yeah he won" and he insulted me and went back to his bussiness. I hadn't accepted defeat and kept hitting him until I finally got him and he gave up. There was the standard surrender conversation. There was just one problem... the game had already considered that I was defeated and failed at intimidating him, so the option to ask him for the tools back didn't appear. I thought "well ok I'll keep beating him into a pulp and loot him while he's unconscious. He probably has the tools on him" so I kept beating him... and then he died It was awkward looting his corpse, but anyway.... I was compromised to not load saves. I didn't even know he could survive the attack
@@BioTheHuman They've fixed almost everything when it comes to bugs and really polished the game in other ways, too. Bow is easier to use, but hitting with a sword from horseback is still difficult, and your horse still can't trample people. That being said, it's actually one of the more polished/finished games I've played in a while. They took very good care of it after release. I think you'll like it.
There’s actual several pointed shoes in game, specifically on guards. The Caption of Ratteny for instance has them, and I only noticed this in a specific close up scene on the mission to the horse farms. It’s a very short scene but it clearly showed pointed toe shoes. There’s also several people who do wear them, although yes, they are not common in game.
Nice video!, by the way I agree with the idea of camera for character (or toggle free camera) so one can get some nice screenshots, and with the combat system about bare-hands against full plate armor xD... , regards from Chile Southamerica!
You make some very good points, especially about polearms and crossbows - those should be present routinely. Though the infamous pointy shoes actually are in the game, you just don’t see them often. Hanush’s coat caught me off guard as well, that just looks like straight out of a renaissance fair. Next, I think horses having trouble in rough terrain and bushes is realistic, though I agree for the sake of fluid gameplay they should’ve addressed that. And the lack of impact on a horse… yikes.. Armor looks too chunky for sure. And a bit too stylized as you mentioned. Though I love that regular people with armor (like bandits) have a mismatched assortment of gear they could scavenge or purchase, rather than a perfect matching set. And about buildings, they do look very authentic for the most part, but gates I’ve noticed are way too large. I’ve walked through medieval gates in this area irl and they are certainly narrower than what is portrayed here. The music is also not authentic medieval music, though I still enjoy it very much. And lastly, about the religious tone, I think that’s very much on point for this period. And as others have mentioned, the greetings used are just standard czech language, to us they don’t sound as religious as their literal translations.
cant the hourglass body shape depicted in art well....art? I cant imagine everyone at that time would fit in such armour and clearly armour was adjusted so it fits the person. If they could not get right the ration of man and horse why should I 100% rely on hourglass shape of armour. I think in this point Warhorse is correct.
To be fair, Henry’s farther mentions the crossbow in one of the earliest cutscenes. I don’t know but the way they added that seemed like they where trying to say we know we fucked up with the bows but we can’t go back now. I’m tryna say it seemed like an apology. Also firearms are mentioned somewhere to but only in writing ( I think)
It is completely fine to strike with the blunt edge of a Falchion as it is with Polish saber - the "weak part" of the falchion blade(at the dull side) (same with polish saber) was actually bladed and quick backstrike to face or head with the sabre or falchion was commonly used as a following after a standard cut. Actually the backstrike is effective enough even with completely dull falchion or saber when hitting the head of opponent.
What kind of breastplate is that you're wearing in the beginning, it looks so cool. I want to buy something that's thin like that to wear under my clothes made of 18 gauge steel. I'm very skinny though so I doubt it will be easy to find something that makes me look normal.
I'm playing it now, and it's completely fine! I knew there could be some bugs, but i heard they were mostly fixed now, in fact i never found major problems. Laughed my ass off when they compared the priest to a pig, gosh that was fun. Having an awful lot of fun, i'm completely loving it, it throws you in the story and makes you feel part of it.
"23 gigabyte day one patch" - Just wanna clarify that size of a patch does not represent how much work was put into it (though I get that it's tempting to see it that way). That 23 gigabyte of patch, could've consisted of less work than an 500kb patch for example (in another game, like Dwarf Fortress). This has to do with how the game engine (cryengine) handles, and packages assets (including compiled code). Let me use an example (from the actual game and engine). Say they want to change how much saving drink cost. That's 1 singular value in 1 singular xml file. That xml file is about 600 bytes. However, because that xml file (alchemy_base.xml) is inside tables.pak, they need to push the ENTIRE .pak file, which is 38mb. So the patch would be 38mb, for an 1 byte change, in an 600 byte file. It is absolutely possible to patch that singular byte without replacing the entire file, but it is easier for everyone (especially the user), to just download the entire file and replace it, which is why we end up with 23gb day-one patches, instead of < 5mb that'd be 'reasonable'.
But there is pointy fashionable polish shoes in the game , they are called fashionable slippers(in game). Check it out , you can find it easy in one of the treasure chests
This game rocks. I love how as a complete noob that is Henry after the very long prologue he (or me controlling him) went off for a wander in a random direction into the wild and encountered a bandit camp. I took on an archer and nearly killed him, but he managed to run off. Then a swordsman came along, he was cocky and thought I would be “entertainment” for him. I took him out relatively easily, and looted his corpse. Then another bandit showed up in the distance. He saw the blood on my sword and armour, and his comrade’s lifeless body on the dirt ground. He ran off and never came back, and I walked away with 175 Groschen worth of loot. By the way, you can brew dozens of Saviour Schnapps through alchemy to keep in your inventory, so the limitations of the saving system soon becomes a non-issue.
Very very interesting, and thank You for taking the time to make this video. I've been playing the game for a few years now, and I'm needing to ask, are there mods which actually make KCD more accurate? I really enjoy KCD because that it is Historical (to some degree). I really enjoy the feeling that I am riding my horse on a path which was used, and walked back in early 15th century. I can enjoy games like Skyrim but I always wanted a game like KCD to come along.
One of my issues with the game is the lack of God, as we know medaevil Europe in this time, faith was front and centre, to the extent that the ecclesiastical calendar was THE calendar.
the main pint in any game is balance between gameplay and realism. I would agree on some points, but overall this is as precise and good historical game as you can get, so far.
Really interesting and informative! They actually talk about crossbows in a cutscene at the beginning, and that's where I became aware there were no crossbows :S
Just a point about all that religious talk. I think it is because of the translation from Czech language. In Czech (and Slovak as well), it was (is) normal . Even my gradnparrents talked like that. Greetings like "sbohem" in english "goodbye" litteraly "with god", "go with god" - still used. "Pomáhej pán bůh" = "god (should) help you" if you meet someone working, or doing something. Answer "pán bůh vyslyš" = " hope god hears you". "Zdařbůh" = "may god help us (with this work)" - stil used esp. by miners. "Pochválen buď Ježíš Kristus" = "Be blessed Jesus Christ" or as you say "Jesus Christ be praised" answer "Navěky ámen" = "so be it forever" - used when you enter someones house or kind of more formal greeting. Maybe in English (or other languages) sounds a bit odd, and overreligious, but it is less religious than it appears. You can hear that even today (in our atheistic country), in medieval Bohemia perfecly normal.
i dont think that would be the case. In the game it takes place in the late 1300s to early 1400s so the would be speaking some old Czech or Slovak like maybe west slavic or possibly old church slavonic.
An absolutely spectacular review mate. Medieval clothing is something I need to do more research on considering that fashion changed so much between region and period. I'm just glad that the clothing actually had color and everyone wasn't covered in mud. And my goodness the castles are GLORIOUS, I'll be making a dedicated video on them. Love your rants mate!
"Does kingdom come deliverance have machicolations?" if its historically accurate then maybe yes but i don't know much about late medieval buildings and castle's.... any-sod Shad! Your little historical examination lets-play thingy... are you gonna go through the entire game while looking at things if they are historical or are you gonna drop it after you've seen everything. TIS A LEGIT QUESTION ASKED BY ME MATES MATE! also it would be legendary if there was an easter egg about the great meme of hold it..... *THE POMMEL OF MASS DESTRUCTIOOOOONNN!!!*. well without further ado i bid thee farewell mate.
Shadiversity not covered in mud? Huh. Most of NPCs are clear, yeah. Henry tho... He’s a a real pig xD Thankfully, there is a mod to fix that. But still))
Kunesh (the brawler guy) started chopping wood and hammering nails with his bare hands after you get his tools during the tutorial, as a result, he developed hands of steel capable of screwing plate armor (and your face!)
Couple corrections on the historical accuracy section. Pointy shoes are in game. They are called "fashionable slippers" in the English version. They show exactly as described while in inventory. That said, the model doesn't seem to be the same while it's actually being worn. This could possibly be an engine limitation, or just some unfinished artwork waiting to be done. Second, this is about 25 years before the Hussite wars, which was when the Czechs were using what amounted to hand cannons for warfare. I don't think that, at this point in time, they had access to them. Late in the game you do hear reference to black powder, and their lack of it. While the French were relatively early adopters, using hand cannons in the mid 1300s, the German states clearly lagged behind. The earliest known German hand cannon was from around 1400. The issue was definitely not metallurgical, but rather a general lack of saltpeter. So, the game gets this pretty right. They knew what it was, but it was not a generally accessible weapon. The lack of crossbows is odd, especially since they're mentioned by Henry's father right at the start of the game. And yes, they would be all over the place. Perhaps something they'll add in, as well as a more comprehensive polearm implementation.
Avatrass The first mention of cannon in Bohemia that I was able to find is from 1399, so they probably weren't too widespread in 1403. Crossbows were to be included in the game, but due to some problems with physics Warhorse decided to drop them in the final build.
I don't like this review... He says stuff like "there are no pointy shoes", "how did they forget crossbows", "there should be firearms" even though it's not true.
Crossbows were actually for some reason, not that popular in Bohemia. But there should be at least some. Hunting crossbows most definitely were a thing. I think that lack of firearms is also a gameplay decision ... imagine Henry getting his hands on a hand-cannon. If he, by some miracle, wouldn't kill himself with it, he would be safe to take 1v1 on anyone with small prep time to load.
I did not have enough food so I drank a whole bunch of wine instead. I turned up to my first day of town patrolling drunk and swaying everywhere. Thankfully everyone was too polite to say anything. I also spent a lot of my shift punching chickens.
To be entirely honest, this little indie studio put the big bad gaming companies TO SHAME what they did with that which they have is nothing short of amazing
the best part is that the main guy is "Daniel vávra" czech legend for us, there is no gamer who doesn't like the guy and also he made the czech classic Mafia 1.
For a 5 million dollar budget. This is great! Speaking for myself, most of the bugs have been fixed and don't compare to some bugs of AAA studios. Love this game and warhorse looks to have a bright future!..oh and great review amd constructive critcism btw! Cheers!
40 hours in and I've barely noticed them, def not game breaking. Considering the types of bugs AAA studios release their game with, these are minor at best.
Lots of armor complains are based on computation limitation and playability. Stains and rust are to show the player quality, it is just so you can evaluate some stats just by looking. Eye holes are big, so that the same helmet will fit on all heads. The armour is bulky because of the layering system. You need to be sure that the deeper layers do not grafically overlap with upper layers. In reality the deeper layer will be compressed, but calculate compression in real time on every character is not possible with current HW. I would rephrase the question from "is it historically accurate?" to "is it historically accurate with regard of current computational power?". I will disregard the examples above, but if the shoes are wrong, or the spikes under full plate are present, I give you that.
@@Imman1s I didn't invest in the one for free wench services >.> I don't really mind paying 10 groschen tho I have like 20k.. Bandit camp missions were very useful
@@adorablecenturion8436 Lol, 20K groshen is peanuts (you can get that much in a few treasure chests), but money is not the issue, what matters is the principle :p.
Hi Metatron, I really love your channel and was glad to talk with you at WH studio in person (it's a pity that video was bit shaky...). Thank you for your time and diligent analysis, for sure we will try to push a bit more people to be aware about mistakes they make and we will improve, what's possible. Although I mostly agree with many of your remarks, the biggest issue was not lack of knowledge, but...technology. Guys invented clothing system that caused allll the problems with layers, with overlapping the materials, its length and thickness, size... Also this rusty/wretched clothes are a side effect of clothing system errors. Therefore we could not have done long sleeves, tight and small waistline, proper long dresses, proper gambesons and whole plate armour - because of the existing skeleton and limited movements. :( I disagree however about pointy shoes - these were popular in Bohemia in middle and end of 15th century and Prague I suppose. Definitely not in Rattay - a small town in Czech lands... Anyway, I must also add, that although I adore many of my colleagues and their technical/artistic skills, with character artists it was the worst and toughest fight I have ever had and I have lost. Historical Consultant is invited to inspire, advise and navigate everyone, but what +100 people will apply (and would be able) to this organic and very dynamic thing as game is, is still their good will put into the hands of a fortune. Thankfully many of my colleagues here put all their effort and heart to do the right choice. But sometimes they just did not. Character artists way much too often forced their personal interpretation (while omitting the history) into the game, not following the advice or used many old assets, that were wrongly made in the past (like in 2011, when in the studio were 12 people). So, I was nearly heartbroken when I saw some main character's clothing and at one moment I really wanted to give up ;). I understood finally, why historians quit their jobs, while helping in movies or TV. Then, after some struggling about many matters and seeing aaaaaalllllll the inconsistencies, mistakes, misinterpretations and even very personal fantasy input in KCD, I accepted that in the end it is a Game, a project made by collective. It is a smart game, which with budget for indie game, support of many loving people, shows, what could have been done at each state of development with best intention for each type of player. Hope that despite all, what does not look as it should, you will still enjoy the game until the end! Kindest regards!
Anyway, if this is the case, i find it stupid that one of main selling points is focus on historical accuracy, while creators knew about flaws, which could be avoided :/
Dear Filip, well we strongly focused on it and did what we could to keep many elements of the KCD world in a way to respect history facts and theories. But as I mentioned before, there are certain difficulties and compromises we had to do, in order to keep the game interesting. I can reassure you, that everyday many people in Warhorse studios learn from the mistakes and try to make their work better in the future. And we all see now how much this historical aspect actually enriched us, rather than limit. So I truly believe the historical accuracy is one of our main goals and it defines the whole project.
Joanna DeKoele Thank you for this comment it was really eye opening. And I’ve been hyped about this game for a few years now. I bought it at full price as soon as I heard it came out(which is extremely rare for me) and encouraged many of my friends to buy it too after I made sure it lived up to the the expectations I had for it. And my expectations were met and surpassed within the first hour of gameplay! I was hooked on it and didn’t touch any other game until I had beaten it even with said friends trying to shame me into playing multiplayer games with them. I played 50 hours of it within four or five days and thats with me working a full time job. Just an amazing game. And Henry, even with a cliche “your parents are killed now go get revenge” story made me feel like, “yeah, I could have been a guy like this and made many of the same mistakes”. He’s flawed, he doesn’t always know the right thing to say or do, but he keeps pushing himself forward to achieve his goals. There are a few things I didn’t especially like, but they were all personal preference and stuff I could mod to make my experience more user friendly(I only modded the game after finishing it). And even with all of the bugs I ran into they were instantly forgiven unlike any other game I’ve ever played. Simply because as soon as it hooked me I knew this was a project of passion and love. Thank you for your work in keeping this game historically accurate and not quitting even in the face of some obnoxious artists. You did a great job and I plan on buying any DLC and the next game in the series on day one.
This actually weirded me out at first. It didn't feel like I had been playing the game so long, and suddenly random people on the road in parts I haven't been to before start greeting me. I'm like 'Do I know you?'.
I think you should've mentioned what was historically accurate. For example I like how people start to give you shit if you walk around the town without a torch during the dark hours.
My grandmother always fixed our clothes. She would knit socks and mittens from scratch. She was extremely old-school about it, but they clothes looked very good. If I got a hole i my sock, she would fix it, and the hole would be _invisible_ yet it could sometimes be fealt. I have no doubt that the medieval people would do similar, and better, as it was a matter of survival - and most farmers couldn't just go to the shop to get it fixed. With a big family, it was a matter of _pride_ to be able to mend your husband and kid's clothing.
Yeah, it's amazing how quickly we lose perspective on that sort of stuff. Those poor medieval peasants couldn't just throw their ripped shirts in the trash and buy a new outfit at Wal-Mart, and obviously there is no other way to deal with ripped clothing, so they must have just worn shredded up rags their whole lives!
All is correct, but about religion - you wrong. This game is located in the middle of religious revolution in Czechia. Whole war was because of religion and people were concentrated on religion difference. Depending on the answer on religious question - you knew is stranger your enemy or friend. In this case you simply don't know the historical background of this specific location.
Aye, a bit over the top. He's exaggerating massively. In the game itself, I have no trouble at all believing people spoke to each other that way at the time. This was a big deal. All of this happened right before the reformation REALLY kicked off. Jan Hus was mentioned many times. Martin Luther would not be far behind. The thirty years war after that. All this stuff is just bubbling away under the surface. Metatron strikes me as an atheist/irreligious guy who gets his back up whenever god/jesus/deity of your choice is mentioned. I've got a few friends like that, its fine.
@Catch_Me_If_You_Can No, it isn't. The religious ferment, that culminated in the Hussite revolution was already present in Czechia in late 1300s under king Václav IV. There was a fierce long-lasting struggle over investiture (in which Václav ham-fistedly intervened). Even more importantly, Jan Hus publicly introduced the thoughts of John Wycliffe (and lollards in general) in 1398 in Prague. He was ordained in 1400, and by 1402 he was appointed the administrator of the Bethlehem Chapel in Prague and was already publicly famous for his sermons, that were very critical of the contemporary church, indulgences and general vices. FYI, the game takes place in summer 1403.
Dear diary... It's day 10 and i haven't eaten or slept since the release of Kingdom Come. My 6th attempt at sending SOS signals have proven to be another failure. No rescue in sight. (Note to myself: Do not set your bed sheets on fire when you run out of flammable objects) I can feel my communication skills with other humans fading since i can't remember the last time I've had a conversation. How did the humans start one? Am i a human? (Not to self: An increase in deliriousness has been discovered. Don't eat the pillow again) Hallucinations are a frequent happening due to lack of sleep and I'm experiencing weird side effects from drinking the liquid droplets from my computer liquid cooler system, but i do it to stay hydrated. Also today i made a new friend. It's Mr. Pillow. He's missing a part of his face, but he's a good friend who's also a very good listener. Also today i ate Mr. Pillow. I will now mourn him.
Regarding the over religious npcs in the game, its a reality of Eastern Europe. Even today in Ukrainian villages there is no other greetings as : "Praise to Jesus Christ" - "Praise forever" (It switches to "Christ is being born - So we praise him"(On Christmas) "Christ has been ressurected - Resurected indeed" (On Easter), "Christ is being baptised - In Jordan River" (On Jordan). And when someone is doing some kind of work is it a usual thing to greet him as : "God brings you!". When someone sneezes : "Let the god gives you health - Thanks, let the god give you health as well". Today Czech Republic is the most ateistic country in Europe, but the events take part before the changes in christian doctrine practized in Bohemia. So it IS very REALISTIC.
Interesting, we have so few churches and I know hardly anyone that visits them, 40% religious seems waay too high. Anyway since it really doesn't impact most of our lives I don't care that much.
How can you say people are overreligious in 1403 BOHEMIA? That time period was immensely religious, to the point that religion was tied to culture more than personal belief. People would just mention god in greetings without thinking about it, the same way we say "god bless you" even today in response to someone sneezing, or how "goodbye" is short for "god be with you". Shocked you got such a simple detail so terribly wrong despite being a historian. Also, medieval art is not always 100% accurate, especially with things like bodily proportions. So using them as a basis for criticizing things such as waist size of armour seems like quite a bad idea. Edit: And as Ondřej mentions, the game literally takes place during the time of the Hussite wars (about 10 years before), which was a religiously-based set of conflicts. There's nothing remotely out of the ordinary about people constantly using religious phrases.
typical Bavarian Greeting, even today, is "Grüß Gott" (litereally it means Greet Good or mayb god greet you, but the original meaning was "May God Bless you)
This is true. Even more so considering it's the time of the Hussite wars. The Hussite period is one of the most important eras of Czech history because it was a huge revolt agaist the Catholic church and their greed. At the time religion was literally number 1 topic and all that's happening in the game is happening because the Czechs decided to rise agaist the church in the name of God. Just to give an example, one of the most famous songs from czech history is called "Ktož sú Boží bojovníci" (or Ye who are the warriors of God) and it was basically an anthem of the Hussites.
And for the country where each greeting nod Is dear to Him in whom we do believe For meeting friends we say: “Praise be to God”… O Lord I grieve… Cyprian Kamil Norwid, Moja Piosnka (II)
For any people who don't know Czech history, the church was a MASSIVE institution. There were literally wars because of people disagreeing over religion and people were being executed for not agreeing with the church (Jan Hus). Religion was waaaay bigger than it is nowadays. And yes, people did say "s pánem Bohem" when saying goodbye, which means something like god be with you.
@@Gabriel-br4qe According to the Encyclopedia of Wars, out of all 1,763 known/recorded historical conflicts, 121, or 6.87%, had religion as their primary cause.
The one thing that annoys me the most is the bloody sword, why can't I just wipe it off after killing all the bandits? There's plenty enough of rags laying around.
Regarding "overreligious" people... It's matter of culture and language. Here in Croatia, common greetings till mid 20th ct (especially in rural areas), literally translated were: praise to Jesus and Mary, praise Jesus, glory to Jesus Christ, May God help you, God bless you, God be with you, and then unreligious: good [part of a day], be healthy, my bow. In South we still say "adio". And then you have to throw in every now and then in your speech "ifgodwillsit". Bosnia, Serbia and Ukraine are similar. It might be case with Czech too
No, not lately. But i think that religious greetings were phased out of existence mainly during commie era. Communist regime cracked down on religious people pretty heavily. In some villages, people still said "blessed be Jesus Christ" as a greeting, but not anymore. A polite greeting today is "Good day".
It's still in English also. Goodbye is literally just the contraction of "God be with ye" into "Godbwye," ultimately becoming Goodbye. Here in the rural Southeast of the United States I hear, "Bless you" and "Bless your heart" all the time in normal talk. Also common when people talk about someone who has died to end the sentence with, "God rest their soul." I imagine rural medieval Europe would be very similar in the habits of speech of the people.
They patched it so if you say, "Do you REALLY want to something, can't remember, but Kunesh replies, "No. What do you want from me? I lost everything." Nut then he gives you a quest.
The "overly religious" bit is interesting. I absolutely get where you're coming from, but, to be fair, I think this is mostly the fault of translation from Czech being too literal at times. We're one of the most atheist countries, but our everyday language is still riddled with "religious" references. Nobody really notices that and if you asked people why are they so religious, they wouldn't likely even understand what you're talking about, because they're just saying it on a subconscious level, not as part of any religious beliefs. And obviously the reason why we're still using these in everyday language despite being a very atheistic country is obviously because it's something that has been in our language for a long time. Hearing someone greet you with "Praise the Lord!" in English does come off very differently than hearing a Czech equivalent of the same greeting - if someone greets you with "Pozdravpánbůh" (Praise the Lord, more or less), you won't think he's religious - you'd think he's a bit too old fashioned, and if it's a fairly young person, that he's trying to tell you he's aiming for a very casual style of talk. So it's possible the devs didn't even realize this difference between how it comes off in English and in Czech. It's actually one of the few examples where I would consider the English version of the game being worse off than the Czech one (as I find the Czech subtitles - there's no Czech dub currently) being quite bad and very inappropriate for the game (as the characters are basically talking current everyday Czech, often even in a strong slang, and more often than not also using ridiculously strong language, which comes off as not just needless, but also not fitting the portrayed era at all - not that people were not using strong language at the time, they absolutely were, but they were not using 21st century swear words and language).
I know this is probably a dumb question, but are people of faith discriminated in your country with it being mostly atheist? I know most are regular nice people like yourself but I've also met some who were pretty hostile about me being of Christian faith. ( In the U.S.)
@@Loostyc ahh I see. My church is kinda like that one guy speaking in one of the towns in the game lol. When he speaks about how religion doesn't get us into heaven, only a relationship with Jesus Christ.
@@TexanTemplar A religious Czech here. I don't say that I don't feel discriminated by anyone. But that could be just because people around me are tolerant.
Sorry Metatron, but about those "over religious people" as you called them, you have no idea what you are talking about. Go to countryside in countries like Czech Republic, Slovakia or Poland (and Im sure this apply also to many others countries in Europe) and you will see that a lot of people there are still very (and I mean VERY) religious and talk like that. Im from Poland myself. When Im in countryside people are always greeting by saying "Niech bedzie pochwalony Jezus Chrystus", "Na wieki wiekow". Whitch means something like "Let Jesus Christ be praised", "For all eternity". There is much more of that, generally people are talking about God, Jesus and Virgin Marry a lot. And they always taking their hats and cross themself when they see cross or wayside shrine. Honestly Im suprised that you are so suprised about that. I always thought that Italians are quite religious people. And btw Im atheist myself so no one can acuse me of being biased here. Even nonreligious people are acting like that in certain situations, especially if we are dealing with older people. This is just tradition. So if people here (and Im sure this also applys to Czech Republic, even when its most atheistic country on earth right now) are acting like that in XXI centure, Im sure like hell that they were even more religious in XV century. Your rant about this is very weird in my opinion. Cheers.
Kretek, Same in Ireland. Many people in the countryside are still very religious. And even those that do not practice, they still carry out many traditional Catholic customs without realizing it. That's just how rural Irish society works. Many people still go to mass. When people walk or drive pass a church they bless themselves. People still often say "God bless" and other religious greetings/goodbyes when speaking English. In Gaelic the standard greetings are religious anyway. I experienced a great deal of culture shock when moving to a more urban area in the United States, in realizing that people take offense to religious greetings and practices in public (especially if said practices are Christian). It came off as strange. I grew up around many Polish immigrants who came to Ireland in the early 2000s. One way they connected with the native Irish was through a common appreciation of both religion and alcohol. Ye lads are a fine group of people if I may say so.
"especially if said practices are Christian" Uh, what? You go somewhere in the US and try to say something UNChristian and you're likely to get at least a sour look. In some states you'd be in real physical danger.
Wveth, I don't know where you live in the US but where I am is completely different. Sure I can imagine it would be like as you said in some of the deep south Evangelical areas but even then "physical violence" seems a bit hyperbolic. Note that I said I was in a more urban area too, a hardcore Democrat area at that. When in public using christian phrases and greetings, even during Christmas, is not advised as it could be deemed "offensive". I just found it a bit silly when I first moved here, to be offended by things like "Merry Christmas" or God bless". I wouldn't get offended if a Jew said "Happy Hanukkah" to me.
For God's sake, just go to modern day Krakow, you'll see sculptures of "Jesus Christ" everywhere, even markets filled with portraits of the Pope. Metatron, you need to see the World a little ;)
A lot of your comments sound like: "I've seen it like that in a historical source, so in order to be historically accurate everything has to look exactly like the source". You said it yourself: 100% historical accuracy is utopic, so even more so, there is A LOT that we don't know aside from the sources (I believe you know that most of them are rarely more than a very individual and momentary representation of the authors' or the employers' view on the world at that time) and you shouldn't generalize by using only sources to support your criticism only to make a point because it is unfortunately quite harmful to the perception of "accuracy". Remember, actual accurate critical thinking is rare these days, people gladly believe what you say when you sound "accurate" enough because they're too lazy and arrogant to make an effort themselves and gladly take other peoples' work over doing it themselves. Especially when it's free... I'm just taking the very first few things to make my point: - Only because underwear is not shown in graphic sources, doesn't mean it was never shown. When you look at a graphic representation of our time, underwear is not the most prominent factor in fashion, yet A LOT of people walk around in what appears to be underwear. Why would it have been any different, only 500 years ago? Only because the artists might have been prudes or maybe forbidden to show underwear by their prude employers, doesn't mean that he people have been just as prude. - Why exactly are coifs meant to be laced and not loose? Because they have two laces? Our jackets have zippers and we wear them unzipped quite often. It's a matter of laziness and/or comfort, not rule and/or "completion". - Laced on sleeves did exist, that's a fact. So arguing about the quality of what we see OCCASIONALLY on characters is useless because you don't know what the reason for both the large gap and the large lace is: only because master-tailors did it better, doesn't mean everyone wore perfectly sewn on laces. Maybe the bought the dress, could only afford that one (which isn't uncommon) and altered it to their needs, like wearing it short sleeved in summer and long sleeved in winter and the lack of skill made the manufaturer of what we see use the lace at hand which was probably some working piece of string and not thread. I could go on, but I won't since my points are the following and I think you already get them: - Only because we don't have sources or evidence of something having happened or not, doesn't mean we can make a rule out of it and claim it has or has never happened exactly like it. Practical reenactment and archaeology has shown over and over that practicality was dominant, not accuracy and has proven many times over that many things we believed to be true, in fact might have been just too obstructive to have been done that way. - The sources we have are highly doubtable because we know that most of them have been commissioned work and therefore prone to individualism, not generalism. - Critical thinking, especially historically and scientifically, should not be supported by sources but directed towards them: take what you have and try and try it over and over again until you KNOW that it works or not and not just believe it does or doesn't supported by that one or some sources. "Truth is not defined by a majority vote" (although philosophically even that is debatable ^^). The game never claimed to be 100% historically accurate. It's good it is not because that would make the game totally lame and incomprehensible (do you know any Bohemian?). It is by far the best and most accurate depiction of the medieval era in gaming we have so far. The information it provides should indeed not be used as a historical source but can indeed be used as a very good starting point for in-depth research with very promising results. Therefore: Your criticism is justified and might be helpful, concerning scientific and maybe even historical accuracy. Unfortunately your approach is just as inaccurate as what you're criticizing. In fact, you're criticizing your own way of research... ^^ Now, I hope I did not insult you or your work. I don't know it any better (because we can't really). I was merely trying to point out flaws I saw, just like you did, while trying not to judge any of it. Just like you do, I highly respect and appreciate your and other peoples' work and dedication in that area and only want to contribute to the bigger picture. Kepp up the good work, I enjoy it a lot!
The over-religious behavior of characters might seem like that because of many religious greetings(''God bless you.'' ''Jesus Christ be praised.'' etc.) that are present in czech language, we still know(and sometimes, but rarely use) them today. And I myself can think of 3 that I've heard said to me in casual conversation with older folks.
Frank Teryngel indeed, and similar phrases can be found in multiple cultures. Inshallah is to my understanding ubiquitous throughout the Arabic speaking world and means God willing. And in Shakespearean English egads a contraction of Oh god.
It's just that it's over used and even character in the game that don't belive in god says god bless you My Runt glitched so he said godbless you and wanted to trade with me lol
Speed Force Heh, then it's even more accurate. Czech Republic is one of the most atheistic countries, and yet, we sometimes use these religious answers just because they are used(even english has that, have you ever heard anyone say ''Jesus Christ.'' or ''Oh my God!'' as a statement? I'm quite sure you did and the odds are, that that person doesn't go to church, blasphemes and is religious at best just on the paper, but not in reality).
Well the dominant English speaking country in the world is the USA so actually odds are that person is in fact religious thankfully. I'm glad we don't have the same problems you have.
@Catch_Me_If_You_Can No its not. Today you wouldnt get hanged like in medieval ages just by saying you dont believe in god, some other ways of believing(hence heretic) or burning "witches".
Catch_Me_If_You_Can Well there are different generations see things differently. Today it wouldn’t be tolerated if you were yelling at someone for their beliefs and words. In game people were beaten and yelled at for talking bad about politics. Also around this time it was a holy thing to kill non believers, and people became saints for it. For the time they use religion a realistic amount.
I agree with you on this. They just came out of the inquisition and probably identified themselves first and foremost as Christians(different then the heathens in that other country).
About the clothing- this guy bases his outcomes on medieval pictures and other art, which is of course highly stylised and/or inaccurate. In Bohemia we have actually quite a lot of clothing preserved from that era, and the game is much closer to the reality than the medieval pictures.
I highly doubt this analysis is right, in fact Vávra read plenty of books just to have everything as historic as possible so i trust this game is historical accurate and this guy is liar or just dont have it right.
@@ItzNiekoyo how else do you know how those people from that time wearing their clothes if not from book and art? Come on.. even people from that country probably know from same source. There is no way his grandpa nor their Grant grandfather know that either.
@@koruzhuv2.087 You’re seriously arguing that you should adamantly take someone who wrote about a country’s opinion over someone who literally lives there and experiences their history every day 🤦🏻♂️ common sense is hard
@@ItzNiekoyo So u r telling me u believe that someone that lives in somewhere know more about their country past, like 500, 400 years ago, than someone that reads books about it? U know people have to study to know something right? Or do u think people just absorb knowledg from the past of somewhere if u just live there? Not saying he is right or wrong, just saying that this phrase "someone who read books over someone who literally lives in the country" is just wrong, because someone who reads books about a subject know much more than someone that just live somewhere, that's what historians do.
Still is it a cumbersome system. They really should add an option to change the save system to something more traditional. It is a single player game let players who want to save when ever they like, have that option. Nobody is forced to use such an option and nobody looses something by having it. Actually in most games you can just decide not to use quicksave (unbind the key) and only rely on autosaves.
Hey Raf :), I just saw an Interview with people from Warhorse and they spoke about the horse. They made a specific behavior for the horses in the game, that they automatically avoid objects in their way (horse riding, lone horse wandering). Buuuuut, they had a problem, which they clarified a loong time. This behavior caused the horses avoided even stones on the roads (they were zig-zaging on a standard road). Therefore they removed the behavior, because they had no time to fix this. I believe they will fix this eventually :) I would give you the interview, but it's in Czech. You made a great video (as you always do). Best wishes from "Bohemia" ;)
Indeed. They made some decision like this one, just because sometimes there is a thing as too much realism. I imagine many people would be unhappy if they accidentally killed some peasants while riding through a village.
Jesus Christ be praised, God be with you, etc. are all greetings that are used out of habit because medieval Europe was so religiously centered. As you can see in the game, people often don't buy what the church says, they're not all religious fundamentalists; however, you do have to expect life in general to roam around God and Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ or the Bible and on the other side the big religious institutions were always very seperated issues. Most people who could understand the first even just by intuition came to the conclusion that the second often were a fraud.
Even in today's society we stick to old religious sayings. In Germany everybody still says "Gott sei Dank!" (Thank god!) when something great or ulikely happens or something bad doesn't happen.
Thank God and God bless you are things even most atheists say out of habit even today, and “Goodbye” is just a contraction/corruption of “God be with you”. Cause that’s how often it was said.
I actually love the saving system, because whenever I have the ability to save wherever I want I don’t feel anxious at all. I don’t feel immersed in the game. But if I know I can die in that world I play the game the way I would if I were Henry’s shoes. I think twice before approaching someone. If I see a fallen tree on the road I turn around. I feel nervous during a fight, my adrenaline shoots up and it feels so satisfying to win a fight. Of course it’s good if they give you the option of both but then again if the option to save whenever you want is there it is very tempting to abuse it.
@jocaguz18 I've had one crash in 10s of hours and that was starting the Theresa DLC, so loading in a whole map. You're probably just shit and get killed easily.
@jocaguz18 It was only changed by adding the option to save and quit the game. They fixed issues with people wanting to have a save point at their last played moment, not for average gameplay so no, that's not correct.
Moral(s) of the wideo: 1 change clothing 2 make it cleaner 3 make armour tighter 4 make eyeslits tighter 5 increase punching power with gauntlets 6 decrease punching power against armour (might even deal dmg to attacker) 7 Add lances 8 Add ability to run over people with horse (might even Add ability to increase the dmg)
>some beds are bugged
Historically accurate.
LOL, good one!
Actually, it was proved by research and experiments that most beds were not saving beds. Only very rich people had those.
90% of the population at the time didn't even have proper beds like portrayed in the game.
My bed is bugged right now tbh
Man! Those bugged beds really bite!
i thought it was odd that there are no crossbows, your Father even mentions them right at the start when he says i can teach you swordplay, but then somebody might shoot you with a cross bow...
Exactly how i beat runt. No way i could beat him at actual swordplay so i ran around the room shooting him with my bow
I herad that they had crossbows in the game, but they had some problem with programming so they removed them entirely.

ChuckNorrison It's pretty much the same in English, actually. "Goodbye" comes from "God be with you".
The thing that struck me the most about this game, is that it transports you to the medieval world in the most realistic way possible. When you go inside, there are no bright lights to light it. Only candles which only shed a limited amount of light. It really captures that medieval scenery.
they also completely excluded crossbows and gunpowders which was a major role in the 15th century. also it was like the transitions to renaissance era

I've seen these exact hinges on historical bascinets from that period. They're not side hinges, but a way to put on a mask with pins on a usual up and down hinge on both sides. Hope I put it half way understandable :D
His point was that they were rare, not that they didn't exist.

I love the combat so much. Just feels like not much to fight after a while (I’m 68 hours in). I wish more games would start using combat like this.
Sandra Archer dude get a pc. It will last longer than a ps4.
Yeah a pc would be good also I'm playing this on PC and haven't come across that many bugs it's pretty good but the beat part is there is a free mod for unlimited saves Haha!
True enough, but a PC that can run this game at a decent fps is a lot more expensive. I bought mine barely 2 years ago and it's struggling mightily.
I've only got a 970 and in on high settings running at a steady for of in and around 70 to 80.
I enjoyed the original save system and it should still be optional.
tbh, about the firearms, you mentioned the hussite war while the game is set before it
im not sure this province would have used them in their small conflicts and as sir divish mentioned "we have no gunpower here"
and i belive using paintings as an scale for the armour waist might not be viable, there must be an authentic medieval armor that can be used as reference for the waist
and yes, i did missed crossbows in this game
There are plenty of extant armors, and they all have tight waists
The reason paintings are used as a great source are because they match the extant armors.
Yes, but as long as you find something that's consistent between artists and even places, you're 99% sure that thing is authentic
He probably has the tools on him" so I kept beating him... and then he died
It was awkward looting his corpse, but anyway.... I was compromised to not load saves. I didn't even know he could survive the attack
I just got addicted to this game a few days ago. Btw, just brew the savior schnapps.
I want to buy it as soon as possible, did they patched something or has the same problems said in the video? :(
@@BioTheHuman They've fixed almost everything when it comes to bugs and really polished the game in other ways, too.

To be fair, unless the horse is specifically trained for it, they will almost never purposefully ram into or step on, a person.
Kunesh is a tough ass dude, dude. don’t mess with him
Nice video!, by the way I agree with the idea of camera for character (or toggle free camera) so one can get some nice screenshots, and with the combat system about bare-hands against full plate armor xD... , regards from Chile Southamerica!
The WarHorse studio just didnt finish crossbow. They didnt had the time for it.
Can you make a video of 15th century Italian clothing
Pablo Mármol oh ok thank you for that u didn't know
You make some very good points, especially about polearms and crossbows - those should be present routinely.
Idk Metatron, 20 hours in and I haven't crashed once. I have 18k gold and no bugs I have encountered, I just love this game

cant the hourglass body shape depicted in art well....art?
Mount and Blade 2 looks great
You know that might be to only other game the might compare to KC:D
That's a cuirass, if you're still wondering!
19:38 I'm crying laughing at this rant
I'm playing it now, and it's completely fine! I knew there could be some bugs, but i heard they were mostly fixed now, in fact i never found major problems. Laughed my ass off when they compared the priest to a pig, gosh that was fun. Having an awful lot of fun, i'm completely loving it, it throws you in the story and makes you feel part of it.
I think crossbows are missing because it meant animating a complex manouver to reload.

Yes Skyrim is in fact reality and our world is just a simulation
Yeah, dragons are real!
Do you even ... _sigh_
Let me ask you a question. Can you unscrew a pommel in Skyrim? No. Therefore it is not realistic.
Yes because dragons (black people) come daily to our village (neighborhood)
I just picked up this game. There are some things I flat out dislike and some flaws I have to look past, but I am really enjoying it. Great video!
the main pint in any game is balance between gameplay and realism. I would agree on some points, but overall this is as precise and good historical game as you can get, so far.
Really interesting and informative! They actually talk about crossbows in a cutscene at the beginning, and that's where I became aware there were no crossbows :S
Not so much a history buff more of a casual enjoyer
You can hear that even today (in our atheistic country), in medieval Bohemia perfecly normal.
this needs more upvotes!

Yep, in Slavic languages in general as well. Very relatable.
i dont think that would be the case.
They do plan on adding in crossbows, more polearms and lances.
Avatrass The first mention of cannon in Bohemia that I was able to find is from 1399, so they probably weren't too widespread in 1403. Crossbows were to be included in the game, but due to some problems with physics Warhorse decided to drop them in the final build.
Crossbow DLC?

For a 5 million dollar budget. This is great! Speaking for myself, most of the bugs have been fixed and don't compare to some bugs of AAA studios. Love this game and warhorse looks to have a bright future!..oh and great review amd constructive critcism btw! Cheers!

It certainly puts Bugthesda to shame.
Yess!! Layering clothing/armor makes people look puffy in modern themed games as well
You can easily get rid of rust and stains on your armor by going to a bathhouse and having your clothes laundered.

Joanna DeKoele This comment should be pinned :)

Absolutely agree and the materials were very, very strong.

Been playing constantly for about a week, 30 hours in now.
He was exaggerating with the religiousness of the citizens, in my opinion. :/
The war wasnt about religion. It was about Sigismund wanting to become the King instead. More or less. Not that indepth explenation but thats kinda it
All so-called religious wars are, in fact, economic wars, power wars. You're too subject to ideologies.
@Catch_Me_If_You_Can
No, it isn't.

Methinks Estonia is waay more atheist as a country than Czech Republic.
raifthemad Ive checked some charts, Sweden became the first with 73%, Czech - 72%, Estonia - 60%
There's nothing remotely out of the ordinary about people constantly using religious phrases.
typical Bavarian Greeting, even today, is "Grüß Gott" (litereally it means Greet Good or mayb god greet you, but the original meaning was "May God Bless you)
Here in Serbia, when we depart from each other on long journeys we say "Zbogom" which means "With God"
I spent hours robbing the sleeping refugees
This is true. Even more so considering it's the time of the Hussite wars. The Hussite period is one of the most important eras of Czech history because it was a huge revolt agaist the Catholic church and their greed. At the time religion was literally number 1 topic and all that's happening in the game is happening because the Czechs decided to rise agaist the church in the name of God. Just to give an example, one of the most famous songs from czech history is called "Ktož sú Boží bojovníci" (or Ye who are the warriors of God) and it was basically an anthem of the Hussites.
And for the country where each greeting nod
Is dear to Him in whom we do believe
For meeting friends we say: “Praise be to God”…
O Lord I grieve…
Cyprian Kamil Norwid, Moja Piosnka (II)
For any people who don't know Czech history, the church was a MASSIVE institution. There were literally wars because of people disagreeing over religion and people were being executed for not agreeing with the church (Jan Hus). Religion was waaaay bigger than it is nowadays. And yes, people did say "s pánem Bohem" when saying goodbye, which means something like god be with you.
heh, I still say "s pánem bohem" even tho im not religious. it's a pretty common saying.
i think whats funny is people claim that religion wasnt that big of a deal during the time when almost all wars were because of it

It might be case with Czech too
Yes , these greetings are still used.
It is with Hungary.
Yeah in Bavaria and austria as well

@@TexanTemplar Not discriminated, but it's considered weird to actually believe in god, :D Many people find religion ridiculous.

Cheers.
Kretek,
Same in Ireland.
Ah, religion and alcohol. We also like potatoes, just like you guys :)
"especially if said practices are Christian"
Uh, what? You go somewhere in the US and try to say something UNChristian and you're likely to get at least a sour look. In some states you'd be in real physical danger.
Wveth,
I don't know where you live in the US but where I am is completely different.
I'm just taking the very first few things to make my point:
- Only because underwear is not shown in graphic sources, doesn't mean it was never shown.
I could go on, but I won't since my points are the following and I think you already get them:
- Only because we don't have sources or evidence of something having happened or not, doesn't mean we can make a rule out of it and claim it has or has never happened exactly like it.
Therefore:
Your criticism is justified and might be helpful, concerning scientific and maybe even historical accuracy.
Unfortunately your approach is just as inaccurate as what you're criticizing. In fact, you're criticizing your own way of research... ^^
Now, I hope I did not insult you or your work.
It's just that it's over used and even character in the game that don't belive in god says god bless you
My Runt glitched so he said godbless you and wanted to trade with me lol
Speed Force Heh, then it's even more accurate. Czech Republic is one of the most atheistic countries, and yet, we sometimes use these religious answers just because they are used(even english has that, have you ever heard anyone say ''Jesus Christ.'' or ''Oh my God!'' as a statement? I'm quite sure you did and the odds are, that that person doesn't go to church, blasphemes and is religious at best just on the paper, but not in reality).
Yes 'goodbye' is short for God be with you
Well the dominant English speaking country in the world is the USA so actually odds are that person is in fact religious thankfully. I'm glad we don't have the same problems you have.
Religion was a really important part of medieval life. I kind disagree with you on this topic.
@Catch_Me_If_You_Can No its not. Today you wouldnt get hanged like in medieval ages just by saying you dont believe in god, some other ways of believing(hence heretic) or burning "witches".
Nowadays, we think everything in terms of money. In medieval times, religion was the lens you looked through to understand the world
Catch_Me_If_You_Can Well there are different generations see things differently.
@Catch_Me_If_You_Can in Catholic lands only Latin was allowed? Okay sure

Until a young preacher called Jan Hus arrived...
Not to mention that not being religious in that time could be quite dangerous as you could easly be called heretic.
