    Milwaukee and Makita are both great platforms, and they both have their massive tool lineups but the whole point with Festool is that it is the fine work/precision/ergonomics sweet spot and your videos have shown that for sure. It's also why they keep growing on you, FC, because you are the guy they make the stuff for.

    Great comparison. I have the non-hammer version of the milwaukee and like it a lot. I also have the 2801 m18 compact brushless. It's lighter and less torque, but still a great drill. I favor a two drill approach regardless of the job; drill for the holes, driver for the fasteners. Thanks for the videos!

    Good video. I would like to say I have both the Makita and Milwaukee you are using. First the Makita is my go to I use daily. It has enough power to get most tasks done I actually prefer the slower revolution especially for metal. It’s also very lightweight. If you put it on speed one I’ve never had a problem using spade bits with it even through stacked studs. Not saying it’s the best for that job application but it will get the job done. The Milwaukee is great! It will get done everything you ever need it to do. So much power! That being said I’m not a huge fan of the electric clutch as opposed to the mechanical clutch on most other drills. But if you need a beast that will cut out out some 6”holesaws or drill masonry or do anything that’s the drill to do it. It’s definitely not something you want to use all day though because it is like you he said not the most ergonomic drill. Good video showing the drills and what they are like for people.

    I have Festool for precision and enjoyment, and Milwaukee for the blower, line trimmer, and chainsaw. You cannot fully appreciate Festool unless you have multiple tools and their system (vacuum, MFT table, compound saw etc.) as they compliment each other and significantly improve accuracy, productivity (site and shop), and flexibility working together. For ergonomics they just “fit” and make sense in how they were designed. Yes the cost definitely stings, but making things is my hobby and passion, and I am am a self aware tool snob - Like my wife tells me after 30 years of marriage, I could have worse vices...

    I’m using a big ole Makita from years ago. I was thinking about drill precision today, as I was readjusting some pocket door hardware today. Had to shift it all over 1/16+ with a tapered pilot bit, right next to the old holes. That Makita is either off or snapping wrists. 🤣

    Great way to demonstrate precision verses power. I personally can't imagine owning just one drill. Different tasks make a big difference on what I use. I am a professional carpenter. However, I understand the occasional users delima of having just one or two. That would be a hard choice. It would have to be a balance between. A mid level in size, weight, and power. I a yeat to get a drill like the Festool with an electronic clutch. I believe that's where drills are moving forward to. May be able to produce a great way to pick your exact desired point. Thanks for the video

    I primarily have Makita tools but I started buying into the M12 platform for daily use.
    The M12 Fuel impact and M12 Fuel Hammer drill are my go-to 75% of the time now. Unless I'm driving 3+ inch fasteners repeatedly, I don't really need to use my 18V stuff (for drills)
    I've wanted that M12 install drill but the top button F/R ruins it for me.

    I'd love to get into the Festool battery tools, just for the delicateness and precision of the tools, but as a homeowner who uses all my tools around the house, I need all the tools that Milwaukee provides.
    Plus price kinda hurts. I'd love to jump on a Festool multitool, but at $1000 for the kit, I'd rather get the M12 multitool and buy a small systainer to store it in for a fraction of the cost.

    While I don't have as good of a replica of a house to test the tool on, my subcompact Makita hammer drill/driver seems to do better, power wise, than the one you used. XPH11. It does 1 1/2" spade bits just fine, and while not exactly speedy, it manages to get a 3" hole saw through old flooring faster than it would take for me to retrieve my big drill from the car and run its cord. I wonder what the difference is.

    Not sure this is a fair fight, the Milwaukee is a hammer drill, the others look like simple drill/drivers, they don't seem to all be targeted for the same jobs. I would probably substitute the Milwaukee compact drill for the hammer drill to even the playing field. It's lighter than the hammer and doesn't (to my knowledge) have the bit holder on the side -that IS annoying-. Also, the Milwaukee battery is bigger than the other two. The smaller 2 AH battery improves the balance significantly.

    I've been searching for a new daily driver as my Gen 3 Milwaukee is just too much of a beast for 90% of my needs. It will twist the head off a baby even on clutch setting 1. I have been using the 12v DeWalt xtreme screwdriver and drill combo which are quite nice but lack a bit of refinement. Tried the Milwaukee installation driver twice and just couldn't handle the forward/reverse. At the moment I'm rocking the Bosch 12v brushless flexi-click and it might just be the one.

    • @TheFunnyCarpenter
      @TheFunnyCarpenter  3 года назад

      I keep eye balling that drill- it would make for a great video. Does the Bosch 12v have enough juice to muscle an 1-1/8” spade bit through a plywood cabinet in high speed?

    • @dfs7979
      @dfs7979 3 года назад +1

      @The Funny Carpenter Depends... self feeding spade no way. Standard spade it will do in high speed if you aren't cranking on it. Tested it on 3/4 finger jointed pine just now so YMMV in ply. If it does get stuck it's when breaking through and of course we all know the correct way to drill a hole with a spade bit into finish grade work is to drill from both sides, right? It actually is impressive that it can make it through being that high speed is 1,750. My DeWalt 12v Xtreme drill gets stuck more often and it spins at 1,500.
      Mind you, the Bosch isn't without its flaws. The collets aren't quick insert, the chuck doesn't ratchet, the light is a bit dim, grip isn't as ergonomic as a DeWalt or Makita, and the tool has a softer ramp up to full speed (which isn't actually a problem while using the tool).
      That said, the Milwaukee installation driver is a joke compared to it. The hex collet on the Milwaukee is nearly 3 times the thickness and weight. Rotating the right angle and offset feels much better. The offset actually has a collet so you can drill without losing the bit. It has a standard forward/reverse switch, and the clip/bit holder are very handy - just don't expect to be able to trust the tool won't get knocked over when standing straight up.

    Hey as a plumber I resemble that remark to tell the truth though I’ve seen some horrendous holes or just plain old whacking out the bottom of the floor joist by plumbers that think a sawzall is a finishing tool so I do try to be considerate of such things.😁👍👍

    I have the Milwaukee in the video. It's a beast, but I rarely need a beast. I almost always reach for my M12 Gen II. The M18 is much nicer with a 2ah battery. They charge really fast, so even if your using it a lot, 2 packs will get you through a day's work unless you're doing plumbing rough in with it. After the first 10min using the M18, I removed the stupid bit holder. They probably could have made its edges sharper, I'm just not sure how. The damn belt/pocket clip sticks out way too far but does make it easy to hang it without having to look. But if you need power, you'll be hard pressed to find one to beat it.
    For precision work, you just can't beat a screwdriver. I have all 3 M12 screwdrivers and really can't decide which one I like best. They all have great sensitivity. The clutch on the Fuel version is just a bit stiffer than I'd like it to be at the low end, though. A lot of people don't like the M12 grips. They fit my hands perfectly.
    I have to laugh sometimes with "compact" 18v tools, especially some impact drivers. Tiny on top with a huge battery on the bottom. Keep up the great work.

    If I need power, I drag out my 1/2in Milwaukee corded hammer drill. That thing is heavy and is a beast on its own. It will be around long after I am gone. I use my little DeWalt 12v screwdriver and drill 99% of the time. Ergos are great, however the screwdriver is underpowered. So for that reason I am leery of the CXS. However what do you think about the T18 with the Centrotec bit system as a general all around drill/screwdriver combination?

    • @TheFunnyCarpenter
      @TheFunnyCarpenter  3 года назад

      I mentioned in the last video, that I would prefer the T18 kit with removal chucks. I really like the centrotec chuck even if it is a pain in the butt to get the bits for it. It's quite a jump in price though! I'm going to just keep using what I have but if my Makita burns up or the chuck breaks, I'd be leaning Festool.

    Dont forget to mention Service and Warranty per brand. In Europe a lot of buisness owners choose the Festool platform based on their warranty and service and also because they offer an insurance on their tools.

    I’m an electrician and I echo your comments about the Milwaukee’s lack of precision, it’s really a pretty brutal drill to use. I burnt my Gen 2 fuel out eventually. To be fair it died of abuse, poor thing died after drilling one too many 6 inch diamond hole saws through tile for retrofit pot lights. I replaced it with a Hilti SF10 which has as much power, 4 speeds, much better speed control and I suspect a heavier duty power train. That drill definitely has its cons too it’s very heavy, large and expensive. I also have a poor gen 2 m12 fuel which I also abuse which hasn’t died yet but does have a pretty wobbly chuck hahahah.

    I have a scar on the back of my hand from driving an auger bit into wood that wasn't properly secured and the powerful Milwaukee spun the piece like it was made of custard and flopped it on my hand! My bad but it really is the most powerful drill I've ever used and also the smallest! But you can get it to behave nicely if you feather the trigger. And once you're in the Milwaukee system you can buy the 18 gauge brad nailer and you'll never stop grinning!

    I have many powertools that i killed on my list. Dewalt, makita, bosch, AEG and some....
    Started 4 yrs back with Festool.. Not yet, the HKC 55 i used daily since i bought it. Its a bit underpowerd f i'm honest. Now the put out a new with 2 batterycapacity... Bit heavy to handle, for me i stick with oldie 😄
    With the fsk i cut short the pacing back and forth to the mitersaw. Cut timber where i work will always be faster. Period
    T 18 is nirvana, TID 18 is not the strongest/fastest but the weight and output is adequat for most jobs 👌😄
    PSC 420 is the best batteryjigsaw i used, bit fiddly on/off but used to it now.
    And the DWC 2500 is topnotch for decks, boards, gyprock and panels. Power enough.
    Costly, well they do last. It stings when buying these tools, but every time i use others tools i thinking: what are they thinking at that factory, wrong angle on grip, crappy chuck on a brand new machine, noicelevel so focus is lost and i could add on for quite a while. As soon as i get back to my tools, nothing disturbs me.
    Well, once in, there is no going back for my part. Wish i had a bankaccount that could be to my cravings 🤣🤣🤣

    Pretty much all the construction trades beside carpenters that I work with all use Milwaukee if tools are provided by their company. And I know lots of carpenters that have Makita are slowly moving towards Milwaukee. Milwaukee's new tools and marketing is making them to go to for any trade worker.
