Very informative. I will be working on mine tomorrow. I dont thing I have a broke spring just tension unwound but will try rewinding and see if the does it. If not, I will do what you did & go get new springs at Wayne Dalton. Thanks again. GOD BLESS.
I tried turning the screw and could see the plastic gear move but the numbers would not go down to zero. Does it take a very long time or is something broken that would keep the spring from letting the tension out?
In this video he says the spring broke in the middle. There should only be one spring? Is that correct? When I order a replacement it won't come in two pieces?
+Mitch Mabee My style has 2 springs, 1 of the 2 springs was broke toward the end.(8:20 can see the 4" piece broke of end) There is a left and right spring, the size is all dictated by your door specs. The dealer knew what springs I needed.
Hi, hey, looking at around 8:00, I see that both of your springs are about the same size and none have a center rod. Is that correct? Where the new springs the same? Same in length and with no center rod? In my case I have the same system u have and my springs broke. I just got the new ones and they are the same size with no steel rod but my old left spring is longer than my old right spring and it has a steel rod in it. These are the specs on my door: width: 16ft height: 7ft weight about 143lbs Any info would help, thnx
On the left side of the tube that holds the springs is a sticker. Take the information off that sticker and contact a garage door service professional who will know what the correct springs you should have. That is what I did. All my springs had no steel bar inside, completely flexible outside of the long tube. They were both different lengths, not sure which one was longer, but they were different. You might question your spring supplier about what they gave you, it sounds different than what you took out.
MrSavintheDay thanx for the quick reply. What's interesting is that you mention u didn't have a steel rod on any of your new ones. The other things is the length. My old left spring is about 10-20% longer than the right one. In the new set the left spring is longer but not by much. Anyhow I have sent images/info to my supplier to see if I either get the green light to install or if I need a replacement. Take care
Kurt Schreihart Thnx for the info Kurt. I got it all sorted out. I switch suppliers and the new one was able to identify with pictures what I needed. Once I got the right hardware the install was a breeze.
Leaving it original is better so I like the fact that springs are inside the tube my gears on one side went out I just replace my but the local supply said Wayne dalton don't make the one you have which is the same one had now I have similar to that gear very easy to do either the one you have or the new version now I wouldn't do the one that have springs outside because is very dangerous to do now that I would pay
How'd you get the springs? Wayne dalton won't sale them to you unless you are a garage door repairman. There's a wayne dalton down the road from me and wouldn't sale to me. They directed me to another company who wanted to charge 600$ to repair my door, but wouldn't sale me the springs because, they're too dangerous". They directed me to another company that would only sale me the regular springs and conversion kit(340$, and these springs actually are dangerous). So I can buy the ones that are dangerous, but I can't buy the much safer version(that took me exactly 15 minutes to take down. So I welded the spring as a temporary fix until I can order the replacement ones.
@@kschreihartOH Thank you so much Kurt. This has been driving me insane. Just like for Jack nobody wants to repair the device but replace the whole thing. And no one wants to sell me the spring.
Great video, but you keep saying it's simple to do, not everyone is technically gifted reason why the tech guys scam big bucks out of newbies. Currently I am shopping around for a repair person, all I've been getting range from $300 to replace the 2 springs, or convert garage door to a different type which may cost $800 - $900. I wish I can get better tech guy to do this work, meanwhile I park my car outside.
Nobody is scamming you. The professionals that know what they’re doing and know how to do it safely deserve to get paid for doing the job right the first time with a warranty as well.
@@J_Trask, Thanks. There are good professionals and there are scam prone professionals, problem is you can't tell who is who until the deed is done. Trust me, I have met different repair folks in my time of owning a home.
