I put new doors up and have stalled loading the springs. I am familiar with the old spring style that will kill you if something happens but am having trouble understanding the procedure to load these new style springs. You just told me everything I need to know in a manner that is very understandable. I have problems reading instructions but with you coming to my aid I am very encouraged. I like your style of instruction. Thank you so much.
A second set of hands always helps. I see you had some at the end, and she left. My wife will always assist as much as she is able. Anyway, it's a great video. Very helpful, and I'll order the springs. Thanks!!!
Thanks for the video. I had a unique issue where I installed new torquemaster plus springs a few months ago and it was working mostly fine up until recently. The door got twisted and bent the top arm bracket and nearly ripped the top right roller bracket off the door. I was able to straighten the parts out but it keyed me into an issue with the spring balance. Your video helped me realize that you have to 1. Adjust the tension cables prior to winding the springs and 2. Wind each side 2-3 rotations at a time. I had originally rotated the right 16 times and then went to the left and turned that 16 times. After doing each side 3 rotations at a time, the result was night and day. If only the instructions that came with the springs had bothered to mention any of this. Although it's ultimately on me for not pulling up the owners manual prior to the original install. Either way, your video was a huge help
Awesome video. My garage door wouldn't open by hand today and watching this I was able to diagnose that the right spring is broken so I relieved the tension on the left side. Garage door is going to be unused until I get the new spring kit and thanks to this video I believe I can do the repair myself.
Louisiana boy here. I know what you mean about the heat. Anyway, your video is the best by far. I would have never thought of putting zip ties on the springs to keep them from traveling inside the tube. Anyway, I have one spring broken and will replace it today. I know this is a few years later but, a quick pointer: lube your chain, fittings, rollers and cable mechanisms with Lithium grease or Kroil. That'll help with door noise and will also help it to travel a lot smother. Thanks from the land of constant 100 degree temps.🥵
After watching your video I feel confident to replace springs in my 8 ft. Wayne Dalton garage door. I looking forward to doing a correct install and saving some cash.
Looks like I got some haters in the comments to start the new year. Don’t mind them. Good luck with your repair and happy new year! Let me know how it goes .
Thanks. I had a Wayne Dalton door get off track. I don't think a spring is broken but I will probably have to adjust springs. Now I know how the system works. Knowledge is power! Thanks for the thorough walk through.
Hey man I was super annoyed with your constant blabbering and camera angles, but I gotta tell you thanks a million for making this video! Literally took me maybe 1 hour to take my old springs out and install the new ones. Thanks again!
Nice job! Walked me right through it. Thank you. As of this post date the best price I found was from M.C. Overhead Door out of Cochranton, PA. $175.00 for both TorqueMaster Plus Springs. Weight 110-119 lbs. Good luck all!
Great Video! I have a Torquemaster but have not yet had the pleasure of replacing the springs. This video will definitely help! I’m a fellow Texan from the Austin Metro area.
Im about to attempt this myself. They make it sound a lot scarier than it looks. Technician told me they dont do torque master and quoted me 1200 to convert to tension spring. Im not mechanic but i work as a machinist amd work on my car also. This video gave me the courage to attempt it myself and save a hundred fifty bucks.

I just ran across your video while searching for Torquemaster Plus spring installation. I had never even heard of Wayne Dalton garage door openers until I recently bought a house that had one installed. Your video was extremely helpful. Thanks a ton!!
Just wanted to let you know that your video saved me a ton of money. My garage stopped moving all the way up. About half way. Called a garage door place and they won’t be out until Monday. Saw your video and noticed you said there’s a maintenance toggle. I went up the ladder and looked. Low and behold the left side’s switch was in the maintenance mode. Flipped it. Made sure the tension on both springs were strong and reran the garage door. BOOOM! Worked. Apparently the door has been using only one side the entire time?
Thanks a million for making this!! Had a broken cable. You really saved my A$$ a lot of headache and money. Not only that, my springs were wound up to 30 turns. Can’t believe they hadn’t snapped yet. Operation is WAY more smooth and less jerky now. Thanks again!!
I have the same type in my daughters’ house. I did find a RUclips channel that did show this type of repair for the Torquemaster plus unit. Your video is very good and to the point. Thank you for your time
EXCELLENT VIDEO! This made my "issue" completely understandable when my garage door decided not to open in Wilmington, NC. Like you said, there are tons of videos with other types of door counter-balance systems, but not the Torquemaster. This made my job super easy. Thank you!

Thank you for the video. A local garage door repair company representative would not accept the fact that you can just order the springs and replace them. They wanted to charge me $425 to do a complete conversion to the springs that you could see that are not inside the tube. So either her knowledge was lacking or she just wanted to charge me more money.
You just saved me some money. Appreciate the information here. My cables came off the guide wheel and I couldn't open or close it past 2 ft. It was just stuck.
I have decided to have someone work on my garage door for the same issue until I found your video. Great video instructions! Most videos skip and does not include every step. This video is one good example of how to help DIYers, I appreciate you man! Good stuff!
Donny I’m in the middle of this project (just got the new springs yesterday) but I noticed that a couple of the teeth on the wire coil thing (not the white gear inside the bracket) are “chipped” off. Would this require me to replace that part or can I just avoid the chipped teeth on the gear when I’m ratcheting?
Hi, what would you suggest if the cable is stuck and the torquemaster plus cannot release tension. The door won't open. Is it safe to cut the cable while it has tension? Wouldn't the drum keep the spring from unloading its stored energy?
I’ve got one spring in my torquemaster, having issues figuring out what the deal is, I live in Florida snd yah hot as hell! Gotta figure this thing out no one wants to mess with this style spring for whatever reason Do I need to wind the spring before I put it in the bar? Then slide them on? Great video and awesome job!
I have the same type of garage, when I pull it up I hear I cranking sound but if I try to push it down it won't move at all. Do you think one of the springs is broken?
both sides of my system have tension but one side randomly started making the most horrid grinding sound. i do notice that this whole time the Pole knob in with the up "maintanence" position. i wonder if that made some issue. Playing with the tension alone is a clankly/grindy mess. I had to stop before really doing anything tonigth since it would walk up the kids. Any thoughts on what might be the issue?
