A little about me and this channel:
My name is James Aubrey IV and I just recently graduated college from Iowa State University. After college I decided to take a leap of faith. So I moved to San Diego California to pursue my passion for videography/ RUclips. Overall I'm a pretty chill person, outside of RUclips I like to longboard, dance, play video games, lift weights and hangout with my friends. I know that success on RUclips won't happen overnight but I'm willing to stay patient and put in the work to try to prefect my craft daily. This RUclips channel will be centered around my life after college. You will be able to see all of the ups and downs on my journey to success. So if you like the content make sure you subscribe so you can be apart of the Rome Life Family. (Let's build our own personal Rome's together.)
What is the Rome Life ? And What does it mean to be apart of it?
Rome Life is something I started during my Sophomore year of high school (one of the worst times in my life) it started off as me documenting my journey to recovery from my shoulder surgery but eventually it turned into a platform that I could use to encourage myself as well as others to chase our dreams.
Rome Life isn't just a saying it's a way of life and for the people who want to be apart of it have to realize that. Rome wasn't built in a day it took a lot of handwork time and most importantly patience. So you can't expect your dreams to be any different
This is a reaction video used to educated and give my feedback on the song and artist

This is a country persons Anthem....This is from the 80's...This is Country Country😭😭😭And it is a state of mind. Thanks for the Reaction
Much ♥️ and Respect ✌️
YES every country person loves this!!!!!!!
Yes yes and yes.....love Bocephus 💗
Country state of mind from Montana Cafe
Amber Burris yes we all love this hes one of my favorites🤠
Might be from the 80s, but nothing has changed. We just added new skills, mastered new tools, and if anything we've gotten more stubborn.
That's real country music today's country music is more like The backstreet boys and nsync
Yes sir 💥
This comment sums up "country" today lol
If you're family grew crop and hunted for survival, you would probably understand more. Keep grocery shopping.
Yes lawd I'm from a farm and use the outdoors to get food on my table
I cannot stand today's country music. For starters, the fake "country accents" is very irritating.
That's a very fair take on this song. A huge part of why I like this song is just because I grew up in a small town and im proud to have been raised in the country. I can understand why you don't like this one as much. Hank Jr. is pretty old school, but a couple of his songs that I think you might like better are "Born to Boogie" and "All my Roudy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight"
One of his best here! You’ll love his song Family Tradition
My Name Is Bocephus
If you don't know Sr., Jr's Family Tradition probably won't make sense
Lee Wood, you are absolutely right! I really didn’t think about that 😆
Deffenetly try family tradition.
Or Kaw-Liga
Oh your doing some outlaw country, yay. Props for listening and giving an honest opinion. Not everyone has to like everything.
All My Rowdy Friends by Hank is a definite!!!
Both of them!
Ohh yeah!
❤❤❤
Gibsonville Gold.
I feel the same way about rap. I can't relate since most of it is not my experience. Especially the "bling" and "ho" ones.
Checkout the duet with his dad, Hank Sr, there's a tear in my beer
If he wasn't feeling this one, musically, what makes you think he would feel that one? 😆
I don't believe that's a good suggestion for someone who doesn't like traditional country, nor knows the history of the two.
That video makes me tear up
I love this song because I am a country boy. I understand totally that you don't relate and that's alright. We can't expect everyone to like everything we do. I really respect that you at least listened to the finish. Have a great one.
Okie nation
There's a song by David Alan Coe called 'the ride' that is a tribute to Hank Williams Sr
"You Don't Call Me By My Name", my absolute favorite by this man!!!!!
The Ride is a great song.
That song wouldn't have as much impact if the listener isn't familiar with Hank Sr.
David allen coe is a horrible person
David Allen Coe was one the most racist country singers out there. He had some good songs.....but holy god, he would go off on racist rants that shocked even me. it's one thing to let a word slip..(it happens)...but he formed songs around his hatred.
Monday Night Football's intro
"ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!!!"
Stupid ass nfl is taking it off there intro
Dude look up the album “the Best Of Charlie Daniels Band.” Look up the song The Legend Of Wooley Swamp. Make sure you read the lyrics. It’s about a creepy ghost story.
Nothing can surpass "Rome Life Reactions" gosh awful faces he pulls all thru the videos. Big turn off.
Kia Peterson Not sure why you felt the need to put that comment in my post, but I didn’t ask anyone here what their opinion was about RL. So instead of trying to spread hate about someone who is taking the time to at least try to like different genres of music from different cultures, how about you just keep your unwarranted and unwanted opinions to yourself. Another thing, if his facial expressions turn you off, then stop watching his videos. Because as a professional critic myself, meaning this is my job, I actually appreciate the fact that he’s being honest.
Exactly, Kia, your point is??
Upbeat country rock from Hank:
"All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight"
"Born to Boogie"
Just the whole outlaw country genre
I was just going to suggest "Born to Boogie"! LOL
I was going to suggest both of those songs, and still might just to push them a bit more!
The entire album of "The Pressure is On" is great, too.
If Heaven Ain't a Lot Like Dixie.
Brother, you got it. He's deep country, out there. But he loves you too.
He always wears shades and a beard because his face was crushed in a hiking accident right after he finished his first album that wasn't made up of his daddy's songs.
All my rowdy friends are coming over tonight is a pretty good one of his. He has some great songs, plus, and I'm not sure if he still does, but he used to throw joints out into the crowd. His concerts were a party.
This is real country music, a lot of the new stuff is pop country.
Hank Williams Jr. " O.D'd in Denver" my favorite song from him worth a listen
I like the fact that you didn’t placate the Hank Jr. fans (I’m one) with saying you absolutely just loved this song. Honest reactions are the best reactions! Keep on doing it.
Definitely classic old school country but banging none the less! 🙌🏼
Hank Williams Jr " naked women and beer" fet. Kid Rock
The Blues Man is a favorite of mine. He does it so well. Hope you can add it to your list.
Great song! Alan Jackson covered it really well too
his music considered country rock ...he was fifteen and so was i when i started taking notice of him..i do have his music, i have seen him in concert 5 times very good entertainer .. from 1973 to 1981 you could talk to him and take pictures of which i did after his performance. thanks
While, I, personally, love this song. I totally respect your analysis. It was refreshing to hear someone explain "why" they didn't like this song. I understand that Bocephus isn't for everyone.
This song is about surviving no matter what happens. It’s about having the ability to provide for yourself. Respect.
It's refreshing to find someone saying, "You know what...this just isn't for me" on a youtube reaction.
A country boy is a mindset. Im not a country music fan for the most part but Hank can bring it out of ya! I love your open mind. Thats how I am, ill give anything a shot.
Being all country is not a mindset it’s a way of life.
Understand your point, you have to live the life to understand just like any anybody.
in 1973 he got hit by a avelance, u never see him without his shadews, hes blind in his left eye , and his beard, you never see him with his shades and beard, he got scewed hisself up bad, im in west virginia, we can survive u got that right hank, his dad was hank williams the 1st, he died in wheeling wv
Hank Williams Jr and his father before him are Country Music LEGENDS!
This song was my mom's favorite by Hank Williams, Jr. My mom is in heaven so this song for me personally brings back a lot of childhood memories. When I was growing up, my family and me would do a lot of fishing and camping and some hunting.
Great country song by a great country singer. I got to meet him and get my picture with him in 2018 before one of his concerts. In 1975 he fell 500’ off of a mountain and shattered his face; one eye was hanging out and his brain was exposed. He’s tough for sure. His dad, Hank Sr. died at the age of 29 when Hank Junior was only 3.
You damn right a Country Boy can Survive, once a friend always a friend,
All my rowdy friends are coming over tonight
His father was a country legend
Hank Jr. is my favorite country singer of all time, he wrote all of his songs. Hank Jr. was scoffed at when he broke out in his own style, he really changed country music. He was a break through artist, he was a rebel, and still is, outlaw country.
"We all country" by Moonshine Bandits. You aint even ready for that....Hick Hop
That's not Country.
When the internet crashes most everyone would be panicking. Buying up all the food from the store.....A Country Boy wouldn't even notice. Just another day They Hunt, Fish, & grow their own food. Protect themselves.....To me that's the gist of this awesome jam.
Every country girl or boy rode them backroads listening to Hank Jr. Still do!
His father, Hank Williams Sr., learned how to play the Blues from a black man in Alabama named Rufus "Tee Tot" Payne. Hank Sr. became a HUGE recording artist but dead at 29 years old of heart failure. Drugs and alcohol played a part in Hank Sr's. death but the entire family knows and will tell you, as will all country music historians, of the influence that one man had on a little 8 year old boy who's name was Hank Williams.
So here's to Mr. Rufus "Tee Tot" Payne, one of the inspirations and architects of a music genre loved the world over.
Hank Williams jr. is part of country royalty. His father was one of the country greats in history. 🤣🤣🤣
Hank Jr survived a horrific fall off a mountain. That is why he wears the glasses...beard and all..lucky to be alive.
He is COUNTRY MUSIC.... I can relate because I’m a country girl! His dad was the late ... legend hank sr.... he died at an early age but now he was the original country!! ❤️Tennessee
Hank Jr back then made legendary music!!
You are an inspiration. Your class, style, and messages of love, are just what the world needs
Hank Williams is original true country, a pioneer if you will.
It's not really just about being a "country boy" It is more about being an American blue collar worker. The people that keep this country going are the hard working men and women. These are the people that can survive because they are the ones that truly know what it takes
My hat’s off to you sir. Not many can give things as open & honest a chance as you have this song.
I think I have one you may like while it’s not Hank Williams jr. It is still good John Anderson Seminole Wind. I also suggest a reaction to that as well please and thank you.
As a country boy myself, I respect your opinion. This song is almost a rural American national anthem. Your opinion is absolutely correct. It's about a certain lifestyle. Someone who doesn't live in that lifestyle won't understand it. But 1000 kudos to you for listening to it and being objective. I love listening to your reactions. Try some more Hank Jr. He is a country legend. His dad is almost a country God. His children are in various aspects of country music. There are many songs of his you will relate to.
Hank is a beast, fun fact,he wears a beard to cover the scars where he fell off a mountain and survived. Also most of this video was shot in West Nashville,TN.
This song is so true though. I thought I was country... bonfires, tent camping, I can shoot a gun, but this song is about true country folk. They’ll eat what they can hunt and catch. Live off the land. If it’s broke they fix it and they never ask for help... help just shows up. Then the next house help just shows up there. A tractor is broke, well you trade off half a deer for having a field cut or fix something for someone in exchange for them fixing your tractor. Yeah... I could survive but I didn’t know what being country was about until I moved to the heart of the south. Upstate country NY is nothing compared to country down here. Country is more than twangy music... it’s a way of life.
One of the best songs ever written. As far as I'm concerned, he blows his daddy out of the water
If America has a second national anthem , this is it . That is how much we love the song .
Hank's "Family Tradition" is my favorite. And it's hilarious when you see the live version of the song.
He's been around for years. But hey, kudos to you for listening and giving the song a chance.
It doesn't get more country than this Hank Jr is country royalty
Hank is 4 time entertainer of the year .. saw him in concert a few times .. he was drunk and so was everyone there watching !! Lol 😆 his dad Hank Williams Sr was also a famous country singer ..Hank Jr is also known as Bocephus .. that’s what’s on his guitar
The message is real simple: country folk have grown up hunting, fishing, farming, providing for themselves and living off the land. City folk think milk, bread, eggs and vegetables come from a supermarket. When society falls apart, as it surely will, country folk can survive, and provide for themselves. City dwellers will be running around in panic and chaos and not have a clue what to do. Simple message.
Blues Man has always been a favorite Hank Song Of Mine
Hank Jr's dad, Hank Sr. was a very well known singer, as is his son Hank III. Funny note: Although they are professionally known as Hank Sr., Hank Jr. and Hank III, they all actually have different names.
Hank will say hes not country. Hes blues/country . Hes a legend either way
It's just the truth about how us country folks are raised..glad you gave it a listen..i respect your opinion
It’s about how resilient country people are.
Listen to I've always been crazy by waylon jennings
You're either southern or you're not. I'm from Tennessee and we invented country! Maybe that's why we love this song so much. We can honestly say it's true. We can do all those things. We're survivors! I appreciate your honest review. Keep doing what you're doing....all love!
1 of the most listen to songs since 1980s & always will be.
Country State of Mind Hank Williams Jr.
When the Son is more of a badass then his Dad and thats saying something LOL. Got yourself on a legend here.
He's telling a story that even tho we don't have all the things the big city folk have that look down on us, we know how to live off the land and we can survive.
This is more than a song, to the people who come where we come from it's our national anthem.
Love Hank he’s a legend in country music so was his Dad Hank Sr. ..... got to see him live once he was so drunk he was throwing up on stage .... that was thru his tuff part of life
His father was one of the first country singers. It is a family tradition.
Not a word necessary. @3:46
That furrowed brow you had said it all.
And relax, dig into history and find out who you REALLY have to keep your eyes on today.
James please play Chris Stapleton “Millionaire “ Be prepared it’s beautiful and so true. I worked twelve years for a black Cardiologist in Augusta, Georgia. He became my best friend EVER. I asked him one day how did you become such an amazing Dr.? Beside manner was unbelievable. Treated his staff all equal. His response was you NEVER forget where you come from!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I live 45 minutes from a small town near the brazos river. This song is daily life.
Hank was the 1st concert I attended and is a very deep-rooted country sound. To appreciate the story of "Outlaw" Country listen to "The Conversation". You'll struggle through the 3/4 beat but as with most "country" songs, the lyrics tell a story, and this song explains, his Daddy's place in the Country Music Hall of Fame. To Cataogize Hanks music there is Pre-fall and Post falling off the mountain. When he woke up only 2 people were in the room, his godmother June Cash, and husband Johnny Cash. "Country State of Mind" would be another song that can help make the connection from City to County living so to say.
I really like how you are opening up and listening to country even if you don’t like keeping a open mind you never know you might find you’ll enjoy some good country songs .
At least you listened.
Hi and thanks for your reaction, first Hank Williams Jr. sings more what we call Country Rock you see His Father Hank Williams Sr. was real traditional Country and what you would call Country Music and he die young from to much drinking while on the road and he die in a car's back seat going to new singing gig people look to Hank Jr. to that up where his Father left off and did for a while but then he had a near-fatal accident in 1975 that changed the entire course of his life and career. The country icon went climbing on Ajax Peak in Beaverhead County, Mont., on Aug. 8, 1975. The snow beneath him collapsed, and Williams fell 440 feet, fracturing his skull in multiple places. Williams was not expected to live, and his recovery took multiple surgeries over two years with help from some some old family friends he SURVIVED so the song is about him and surviving. So he charge from the family tradition of singing too Country Rock and the big hat and sunglasses are to hide some scars on his face and eye.
Hank is the man Can’t go wrong with Bocephus!!
Dayum, this one is not about the music it’s the message. We country boys can survive, when crap hits the fan and the grocery shelves have nothing. We can slaughter and butcher (process) our own meat, if you don’t know what a trot line is then to effin bad, we can churn butter, hunt, fish, brew/distill our own “spirts”. We praise the Father and are washed in the blood.
This is real country.
There's lots of other artists, but if you want a more relatable Hank Jr. I'd try "All My Rowdy Friends (Are Coming Over Tonight)" (later repurposed at the theme for Monday Night Football in the 90s.) That's the Hank who really fused country and rock.
Hank jr queen of my heart
Hank jr. The american way, I've got rights.
If you ever watched Monday Night Football, you know Hank Jr.
The take away from this song, for a non country fan, and for someone from an urban area...is that times are going to get really tough in this country.
It was written a long time ago... But right this moment, the Mississippi river is indeed running dry. We are heading into super high inflation this winter, high energy costs, energy and fuel shortages, and pretty severe food shortages...and war.
Country people are more equipped to survive what's happening. Its a cautionary tale for urban dwellers who depend on everything they have, being delivered their neighborhood stores, etc...
I am the epitome of this song. I live in the country with my wife and kids. Im staring at a herd of deer out of the window in my den right now. I can take a short walk through my woods and go fishing. We grow a lot of our own food. We have our own water well. We dont rely on any city services at all. We constantly work towards complete food independence. Our neighbors are all the same. We help each other, we trade, we barter, etc... We have our own machinery to get all kinds of work done. We are armed to the teeth.
I think its an important distinction to make between urban Americans, and rural Americans. Theres lessons to be learned... because times are getting tougher by the hour at this point. I cant stomach the thought of standing in some line in a big city somewhere, and waiting for government bread handouts. Or not having water. Or the trash piling up. Or not having some sort of power back up option. I know even in the worst of situations, I can walk out my door, and be back in a matter of minutes with something for my family to eat.
Hank Williams Sr. / Hank Williams Jr. if you can't catch that wave you'll never understand country music ... be well ❤️
I respect that you said that this wasn't for you. That doesn't happen very often and I like that!
That's good you checked it out. The song is about being able to survive no matter what comes. The simple working man. Hey it might not have been your speed. However you had a open mind. Take care and may God bless you and yours.
His songs are great storytellers
He's talking about people, many dirt poor, just trying to make it through life.
I never noticed it before, but the tug boat in the video was named after his mother, Miss Audrey.
This was a song of defiance, from back when "Country" folk were being ridiculed and denigrated in populuar culture. It was a song saying "Don't bring no revolution our way, 'cause we'll just win it and go back to what we been doing."
Other, more upbeat, songs by Hank are:
Montana Cafe
Homecoming Queen
New Orleans
He's also done some great covers:
Lawyers, Guns, and Money
Tuesday's Gone
Keep Your Hands to Yourself
And pretty much all of his albums have at least one cover of his father's songs, either solo or with some friends:
Mind Your Own Business
Kaw-Liga
Move it on Over
And there's usually a tribute song to Hank Sr in the list, too. You can go WAY down the country music rabbit hole when exploring Hank Jr's history.
You should also check out Hank Williams III (yes, Hank Jr's son).
'Thunderstorms and Neon Signs' is a song than Hank Sr could have done
'Hurtin for Certain' isn't country, but it's got a great beat.
I've been listening to you reacting to Elvis... getting ready to listen to you listening to Hank Jr.... truly can't wait...
I saw another reaction video to this song, not long ago and someone replied, "what is beechnut?", and I was like, how do you not know this? Maybe I'm just showing my age LOL
hank jr. is the son of the greatest country music and rockabilly Singer songwriter of all Times Hank Williams Sr. in my opinion basicly the father of rock and roll
This should be one of the first “real” country you hear, super badass you do this reaction man keep up the learning and good work much love
Rap artists have gotten rich from white kids buying music they can't relate to. Being able to listen to music you can't relate to is what makes music so awesome. I didn't grow up in the country but Hank Williams Jr. is one of my favorite artists ever.
BOCEPHUS!!!!! His Daddy called him that.... LOVE HIM!!! Kid Rock and him are very good friends...
