I remember quite a few of those drawings. I love that your sketch book is just that... a SKETCH book. I get depressed when I see people fill them up with perfect paintings from cover to cover. :D Also, I think it is interesting to see some of the work processes different people go through. Thank you for sharing.

I know what you mean - I do see some sketchbooks where every piece is a masterwork ;) That's not my personal sketchbook experience. I guess I've always planned what I am doing but not always collated it into a sketchbook format but I've got better at it in the last 5 years. Folks do say it becomes a habit and it really does!
Thanks for checking it out! :)

Especially like the wood carving and armor on adjacent page.

Thank you! I was well overdue to draw the wood carving - I take all these photos on my phone and sometimes never get around to drawing them! The armour turned out better than I could have expected, it was supposed to be a loose sketch, sat in front of the TV watching True Grit, laughing at Jeff Bridges awesome accent and it evolved into something really satisfying! Maybe I should watch more TV when sketching...? :D

@@gee355Art There might be something to that watching TV (or listening to music); perhaps it helps to shut off our critical, over-thinking left brains. My left brain always wants to say, "you're not a good enough artist or you can't do this". You have likely heard of the book Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain.

Wow. You're really incredibly amazing. That armor and all the watercolors are jaw dropping, and I am beyond impressed. This deserves way more views than it got so far. I'm a liiittle self conscious about my trashy sketchbook now, lol.

Don't be!! I watch other people's sketchbooks and feel exactly the same! I get carried away sometimes and go overboard because I'm enjoying a drawing 😄 but a sketchbook really should be a collection of your studies and ideas, working things out. The quality SHOULD vary throughout (imho) between super quick and gestural to more fully realised. After all, it's called a sketchbook, not, 'every piece a fully-realised polished drawing' book, is it? 😉 Keep doing your thing!! 👍👍👍😄

Thank you! I did watch a few sketchbook videos before making this one and mine looks quite scruffy by comparison... but I secretly like that :D I'm onto a 'new' almost A4 one for this year, with A LOT of pages in it... wish me luck!

all these drawing playing with the lhe way light influences the values are so well made !

Thank you so much 😀 I guess light means so much to artwork in general that we can take it for granted sometimes. I'm always trying to give things a 3D look or feel so the light source and lighting is probably the most important thing in my drawings! Thanks for the kind words and feedback.

@@gee355Art it's right, adding some light and shadows does make a huge difference in a drawing, making it so much more vibrant and realistic!

I hope so too! It's a lot bigger, both in size and pages so i'm gonna really go for it! But it might not emerge finished until next year... :) Do you keep a sketchbook?
      Thanks for watching!

Thank you so much 😀 I guess it reflects me and that I can't just stick to one medium for any length of time! I've gotten better at keeping a sketchbook over the last 5 years or so and I really do enjoy it as a dumping ground for ideas and media! Do you keep a sketchbook?

gee massam Art Thanks for the reply. Yes I do keep a sketchbook. I don’t use it regularly though. I am not comfortable drawing from my imagination so can only draw when I have a reference. Trying to be better about not being too critical of myself and just letting my drawings be whatever they may be. Your sketches are amazing 😉. I want all my sketches to be as awesome but it’s not very realistic for me to expect that especially since I don’t practice enough.

Is your art all over the school you work in ? We would have loved to have someone as talented as you where I used to work.

    • @gee355Art

That's really kind of you! When I was a full-time teacher, I used to have the childrens work all over the walls as examples of projects. If we did the same project 2 years running it was really useful to have the work up on the walls for the children to see.
Now I work as supply and sometimes a teaching assistant, I do get asked to draw things for displays and its always a cool buzz and something different! The teachers are always so grateful for what you can do for them that you can have free rein over the media and really challenge yourself! I do miss teaching Art full-time...
