Korra is a fascinating deconstruction of the "child prodigy" character type: someone who starts off so naturally talented they don't know how to work to improve. the second she finds a bending style she can't just "DO" like the others, she basically gives up trying at it.

That's pretty much the reason why I liked Korra so much, both as a show and as a character. It was like looking at myself being brilliant at times, fucking things up, a lot, other times and then trying my best to become a better version of myself the rest of the time.

With the kind of character Korra is I don’t think too many people though “yeah this person would be great in a relationship.” Not u til the end where she got used to be a little more thoughtful and less “I’ll do what I want how I want.” From the moment she liked him I was like “this ain’t the one bro. Keep moving.”
Well...
Physically, if an Avatar made out with a child of the previous one, it wouldn't be that. But spiritually....that's another story. When Book 1 Air was still in development, when the only thing people knew about Tenzin was he was Aang's son and Korra's gonna learn airbending from him, people actually thought Tenzin would be her love interest and made comics about it....yeah, that happened

Oh yeah I remember some of that. I think people thought that Tenzin was gonna be way younger and so they shipped him with Korra but yeah, that was a thing.

I assume people only did this because they didn't know what the age difference was, but the more I think about it that doesn't even make sense even if Tenzin was a really late in life child for Aang or if Aang died earlier because korra is born the moment Aang dies, so the only way for them to be around the same age would be if Tenzin basically grew up fatherless because Aang died shortly after he was born, and in that case I doubt he'd be as good an air bender or as capable of teaching Korra because he would have never learned from Aang. Like for him to be even remotely capable as an airbender and of teaching her, there would have to be like minimum ten year age difference.

Yup, the eyes match their bending abilities/ethnicity. Same thing in Avatar TLA. Grey for air, blue for water, orange/golden/hazel for fire, green for earth.
that's how Katara knew it was Azula in disguise at Ba Sing Se. The hazel eyes gave it away
There are exceptions, of course, like how Suki's eyes are blue even though she's in the Earth Kingdom. But there are theories as to why these are the case. Suki more than likely has Water Tribe ancestry because of the island's distance to the Southern Water Tribe.

Eye color is the least consistent thing in atla. Outside of the fire nation. Aang had green blue and gray eyes iirc. Only the golden eyes of the fire nation in atla seemed to be consistent.

They shifted between gray and brown, but most of those changes happened in the first episodes, or in times when the episode's light made them change (like in the Cave of the two lovers). After some point in the series, and in Korra, Aang's eyes were always gray.
So Zuko and Iroh lived in Ba Sing Se for weeks and no one noticed their different eyes because???
@@kagani6202 If I would guess.. they literally kept a very low profile, surrounded by very poor people who probably didn't even knew about the eye thing. By the time Iroh became popular and opened his tea shop, he was making good business so the authorities didn't care at all about their heritage, and besides.. "there is no war in Ba Sing Se".

You guys might enjoy this, more for your own consumption than as a reaction. A RUclipsr named Xiran Jay Zhao made a video for each of the books in Avatar: The Last Airbender, where she identifies and discusses the cultural inspirations and behind-the-scenes decisions made for the show.
The amount of research she did is phenomenal, and she goes episode by episode. I’ve seen ATLA at least a hundred times, and watched a lot of reactions, and her analyses gave me a new appreciation for just how much careful design went into making that series. She shows just how much work the animators, writers, musicians, and researchers all put in.

I think Avatar Kuruk had a crush on this woman but never started anything with her but Avatar Kyoshi ended up dating that woman's daughter. When you guys were talking about the Tenzin/Korra stuff, it reminded me of that. This happened in the Kyoshi Novels.

You gotta love korra man..she's the flawed character that works her way through her problems and isn't the perfect character like aang was. Keep in mind that she literally had no life up to this point and as soon as she makes her first friends and gets a life in the city she is beyond thrilled. If you look closely at the final scene she doesn't actually look at mako but at the city lights which is just genius.
Also 6:00...season 3 awaits i guess

To be fair to Morgan, Aang wound up with his first non-airbender teacher...
The tech advances happened because of and after the 100-year war. The Mechanist from Aang's time (and Sokka even) might have made quite a good living cranking out inventions, and other innovative folks carried on the inventing. Also, Aang passed away when he was around 60; the Avatar Spirit keeping him alive for 100 years when he was in the iceberg may have contributed to his not-so-longevity.
