The amount of info you provide is incredible keep up the good work and nice truck
Agreed Great work on the video!
I just want to say, thank you sir. The amount of details to parts and the process is amazing. Most people wouldn't go into detail and cause people to have to wait till a new part came in so again. Thank you
glad it helped
Dude awesome video!!! The detailing, the part numbers, all perfect!
I just finished mine after watching this inspiring video. I noticed some gains for sure. Thank you
cheap power FTW
Did you need or get a tune after?
@@snicklepopp4393 It will run fine without a tune.
@@snicklepopp4393 No it runs great
I would like to swap out my intake as well and also order a lifter and camshaft kit from Texas speed. I hope to get some major gains from this
Was a tune necessary after the intake swap?
You should show us power gains before and after my dude... I know it had to help out a bit ...Esp after a tune
Did this swap effect your idle at all? Increase or decrease? Any surging or fluctuation in rpm?
Where did you get the throttle body to Air filter pipe coupler? I can't seem to find it anywhere online.
Subscibed. Good info and by the little details I saw on the background (PCV returns cancelled and so on) it seems like you're a very analytical guy
I had to get rid of my PCV mod with the valve cover breathers. I looked at it one day and realized I was getting unmetered air through the PCV system. Air being pulled in through the fresh air ports in the valve covers that the MAF never saw.
@@n5yiz I did the same, closed the intake tube vents and routed the ventilation from the valve cover to the exhaust using a Moroso Crank Evacuation System :D
@@n5yiz do you still have the pcv / crankcase lines deleted? If so what did you do when you got rid of the red crankcase filters you had?
Plan to make a follow up video? Thanks for the detailed video! Is the tube (last part number on the paper you showed) something interchangeable that I can reuse from the 5.3 manifold/air tube? Or is it different?
The 6.2 and 5.3 Gen V PCV tubes are different. A cheap alternative is just use a piece of rubber hose.
Hello awesome video. I have an airaid tube Jr on my factory air box with kn filter. I looked at put those small filters on and taking off the 2hoses. How did it run and what was the amount of air you lost and gained. Thnx
Going to get wacky MAF readings with those breather filters while still using the pcv hose. The pcv needs to be vented to atmosphere as well with the intake manifold capped off.
If I'm doing the non-port manifold, do you recommend the non-ported throttle body L86 on the website, or should I just purchase the manifold and look elsewhere for the throttle body?. I appreciate it in advance.
Was this mod Worth it or were the gains not really noticeable ?
what is the part number for the silicone intake boot you used for the new throttle body cause im sure my boot for my 5.3L cold air intake wont fit the new 6.2L throttle body ?
do you have a link or part number for the crank case breather filters? thanks man
So tune or no tune I found two different answers in the comments
Do you think this would work if you also put the Jeggs 91 mm throttle body for the 6.2 as well?
Nice video, but after all said and done all this air intake improvement will be restricted and choked at the head. So I cannot see any measurable improvement. Its not the manifold restricting the air its the head and valve ports.A larger intake will flow more air but will be restricted at entry into the head and valve ports. I'll bet that the valve ports on a 6.2 is larger than on a 5.3..
Everything you said has been discussed. Watch all the videos.
Hey man looking to do this swap soon. I got the banks ram air intake now so I don’t think my rubber boot will work on the L86 throttle body. What is the part number of that one you have?
Do you have a problem with the rpms not falling when reving, mine will drop and stay at about 3000 and then very slowly come back down to 600
Did you ever figure that out I think mine does that too and I also have a noise that might have been there before but is definitely amplified
The line that connects to the back part, the break booster, where did you connect it to? I cant find where to connect it
Not sure which line you are referring to?
When you took the 2 hoses of tube how did it run better or same. I like those little breathers
You can do that, but you have to plug the vacuum side of the PCV. No post MAF air leaks. That's how mine is now. Watch all the videos, I can't remember which one I talk about it in.
Did you need tune It after the swap
What did you use to seal the pcv hose?
Put this setup on my l83 5.3 truck and it won’t run. Starts for a second shuts off. Everything is hooked up as should be. Truck throws a p0106 manifold code. If anyone has any tips please answer thanks.
Make sure the MAP sensor is plugged in correctly. It is very easy to plug the connector in upside down.
how does the ECU handle the change? Emissions or O2 freaking out?
From what I understand, a CEL can show up during initial start up but goes away after a reflash.
Have you had any problems using the Uni breather filters?
yes, don't do it. Unaccounted air entering motor and causing off idle stumble. It could probably be tuned out, but stick with stock fresh air hoses.
Did you reconnect the pegs in the back of the cover when reinstalled the cover or did you just let them sit back there?
I didn't reconnect them
@@n5yiz ok cool i really didnt wana try and reconnect them as i have big ass hands and barely got them off! Did you get any codes or any high rpms within the first couple hundred miles? By the way your video helped me out alot before on took on this somewhat simple mod! Thanks
@@smokindwable no codes at all...bolt on and go.
@@smokindwable Im not sure if you'll get a code on a stock, untuned engine. I was already tuned. Forgot to mention that.
Could you tell me the exact difference on your ported manifold vs stock l86 manifold? What exactly did they remove/port? Thanks.
Neither manifold shown is ported. If you are installing the 95mm TB on the L86 manifold, you will have to open the inlet or use the Solar Performance 95mm to 87mm adapter plate.
Are the manifold bolts compatible with each other? I just bought a L86 intake without thinking about the mounting bolts
Yep, manifold bolts are the same.
Good information
Thanks
Hi Pmmore, 1 week left till I get my custom 95mm L86 ported manifold from Gawtney. I also bought 95mm ported TB and a custom 4 inch 90° tube from Spectre Performance. I've been searching all over internet and suprised could not find one step by step instruction video on the removal of L83 manifold for the swap. All are finished product.. Is there any chance you could do a quick video by listing out all the steps on removal of the stock manifold, sensors to be taken out, and tools you used? That would really help my installation a lot! Thank you.
No way I can make a video, I'd be going backwards. It's not that hard and there is almost no way you can mess something up.
@@n5yiz hi buddy. So I has the L86 swap and 95mm installed. I did not have an TB adapter, only bolted on 2 bolts on the TB. And did a 4" tube custom air intake. And 2 air breathers for the PCV. Now im not able to start up the car. Its throwing me TB codes and somewhere I hear its leaking air. Would you know what it is?
@@SammieBabieBoy what codes did it throw?
@@n5yiz P0102 & P0106. Mass Air Circuit Low and Manifold Absolute Pressure Curcuit Range
@@SammieBabieBoy It's tough to diagnose without being in front of the truck, but my guess would be vacuum leaks. You're going to have to use all four TB mounting bolts. I don't think two is going to cut it. Make a video of your CAI setup and the engine in general.
Ahh! The unmetered air part! You just hit on what's been haunting me. I have that demonic P0430 code with bad idle. I'm hearing a really high pitch whistle that I'm thinking is a intake gasket vacuum leak. Any advise that could help a po boy lol?
Yep, I will bet that it's a vacuum leak somewhere. Check your fuel trims. If there is a big variance between bank1 and bank 2, it's probably the intake gaskets. If both banks show high trims, it's probably in the intake track.
P0430 looks like a catalytic code. Not sure if that could be related to intake leaks.
@@n5yiz Thanks I looked at the short term trims as I was driving. They were all over the place. I have that Zus OBll with the phone app. I'm still experimenting with it. I'm old school. I miss the days of points and plugs lol. 🥴
@@n5yiz As I research I get more confused. That P0430 is a general FU code 🤭
@@smackisdamac8633 Don't worry about the short terms....just see if the long terms are skewed from bank to bank.
What about the foam under the intake. I’ve seen in another video it has to come out for the 6.2 intake to fit
I'm not sure about the foam. I didn't reuse it.
How much did you spend doing this mod?
I'm experiencing a little rpm fluctuation at idle when I'm in neutral or park. Besides that everything drive perfectly. Any ideas?
air leak possibly. Check your fuel trims at idle.
@@n5yiz I just messaged GPI and the technician said I need to relearn the throttle body but I'm still gonna check for vacuum leaks just in case.
Quick question for the little breather. What did you use to cover up the hole on the intake?
@pmoore4321
@@alejandrozaragoza2116 Are you talking about the PCV inlet? If so, I didn't plug it. I ended up just going back to the stock setup. I didn't want to delete the PCV.
How do you move the black thing next to manifold and what is it called?
Are you talking about the PCV connection?
So you just vent your PVC? No PVC being pulled thru the intake?

Feel any difference? Is it worth it? Was planning to do this mod for my truck. I’m thinking about doing the ported l86 intake and the ported l86 throttle body from katech!
Yes, believe it or not, there is a " seat of the pants" difference in throttle response for sure. I don't know if this is a result of "totality of mods", but I was impressed. I've got another manifold mod that I'm going to try in a couple of days. Look for the video.
I’m sure the lt1 cam compliments that swap a lot. I doubt it would do much on a stock 5.3 alone but a damn good mod I plan on doing. Thanks for the video.
Hey Pat I went to do this swap today an turns out my torque wrench was broken, do you by chance know the part number or the bolt size for the intake manifold? Broke the driver size corner closest to the cab, never has a torque wrench just give out before but in a bit of a pickle.... any info is greatly appreciated, thanks for all the info you've put out on these bolt ons
You snapped one of the 10 intake bolts?
@@n5yiz Yeah, what a disaster.. I figured out all the part numbers an got my local dealer to ship some in for tommrow, it actually doesn't have any leaks surprisingly, but I'll have to redo the whole job due to the bolt I broke being one of the hardest to reach... I actually managed to do the job without pulling the Christmas tree and left the cover attached an slide the new manifold in... but for this its looking like I'll now have to deal with those connections to remove the other half of the bolt... as I was torquing them I was thinking to myself theres no way this wrench is working and I was over 44lbs... so I went around slowly tightening an instead of the wrench clicking, it was that bolt snapping... lol.
@@jordyc4593 Make sure you're using an inch-pounds wrench and not ft-lbs. Final manifold torque is 89 "inch" pounds (7.41 ft-lbs).
@@n5yiz That would make some more sense, I'm a moron an clearly wasn't fully listening during the videos, live an learn I guess I get some real hard bolt extraction practice lol... Bolt had broken off flush, in process of extracting, a little bit of a task in that small spot, won't be making this mistake, and will be measuring 10x, cutting once from here on out
@@jordyc4593 Mixing up inch and foot lbs is very common mistake.
Can you use the same bolts you took off for the old manifolds?
Yep
I'm pretty sure the 5.3 is cathedral port and the 6.2 is square port so how did that work for you
All Gen Vs are square port.
LT2 manifold is square port and will bolt-up to a Gen V engine. That's the way to go these days.
I had to look it up
I just learned that
I’m about to do this swap on my 17 that only has basic bolt ons, LT headers, CAI, and catback, With these basic mods do you think it’s worth getting the ported l86 intake for an extra 400$? Or do you think I’d get about the same gains with just a factory l86 intake and TB after a tune?
I wouldn't pay $400 for porting..
I'm asking the exact same question. From reading the Gawtney HP chat. I don't see much of diff from stock vs ported.
@@SammieBabieBoy There is a difference. The GPI manifold has hand-ported runners and the "towers" that run down the middle of the stock unit are removed. Honestly, not sure how must HP that's worth.
Samuel if you decide to do this swap dont purchase the l86 throttle body, go ahead and purchase the zr1 TB. It’s not much more than the l86. I ended up using the non ported version 6.2 intake and l86 TB. Now I gotta change throttle bodies again.
@@imallupsidedown 100% agree. I learned my lesson on that also. Go big!
Do you need a tune after doing this ?
yes
is this a cadillac escalade manifold?
yes
Did u have an rough idle issues after this swap
No rough idle at all.
Did you do the relearn, and if so how did you do it
I did actually twice! Not any issue's since!! Love it
But the second time I disconnected the battery. And let it loose all memories and since no issues
throttle relearn needed?
I don't remember it's been so long. Probably wouldn't hurt just to do one anyway.
