I remember checking out the Japanese eshop page one day and being surprised at the amount of spicy mahjong games available for purchase.

I would have thought it would have been an obvious choice, to highlight multiplayer ease by swapping around joycons, with P1 being typically red and P2 being blue.

Ask Sakurai how he felt about censorship in Smash. It's also apparent in how Bayonetta's Nintendo crossover skins in Bayonetta 2 were altered to be more revealing by Nintendo employees themselves. They really couldn't care less, but they have a strict ratings board and an image to uphold

I detail you left out linking the Golf emulator to the Japanese Charm is that the charm is traditionally removed after a year, which was also the case for the emulator. There was more to it than it just disappearing from the firmware.

That's mainly due to Nintendo's first party games being aimed at kids. Also the Switch missing a lot of the big adult games like cod and GTA.

for me, switch games are almost always much cheaper physically than digitally
I've managed to get them for like a third of the cost sometimes, without it even being on sale
And a lot of those times there is bullshit partial downloads

Yona there is an online store here that sells them dirt cheap. The price is usually based on popularity, so the more niche the game is, the cheaper it gets.

Microsoft basically invented censoring weeb games. They made the developers of the orignal Gal Gun patch it so you couldn't adjust the camera to look up skirts back in 2011.

1:24 that's not an issue. Magnets don't cause interference like that...every laptop has it's WiFi antennas in the lid, which also have magnets in it to keep it shut.
Oh really? Well what if you took a monster-magnet next to your... let's say walkie talkie, while it was transmitting, doesn't that screw up the signal? Also I would assume the magnets in laptops are weak magnets. The ones on the Switch would have had to be stronger ones to keep them on (which still wouldn't work obviously) so if they were stronger they could, in theory, mess with the hardware.
@@charKT-7461 a walkie talkie? Could you possibly provide a less relevant example? And many laptops use some pretty strong neodymium magnets, to the point of not easily being able to open it with one hand. Not to mention magnetic phone holders, etc.
And I have a feeling the switch never intended to purely have magnets attach the joycons. They would need to be absurdly strong to keep them well attached, to the point of them being dangerous. Pretty sure DYKG read something on them originally having magnets and just made up the rest.

@@startedtech the magnet idea being dropped was for multiple reasons, one was interfering with the rest of the hardware, remember they are really close the screen and everything is very close together unlike a laptop where things can be seperated, but the other, as you kind of explained yourself, was that they werent strong enough to stay secure and would occasionally drop the rest of the switch onto the persons lap while testing

Gee, it's almost like stuff getting changed is mainly to do with publishers or the game devs because they know that ratings can be different in different areas of the world so they tool the release of the game around what is appropriate in that part of the world.
Localization gets confused for "censorship" a lot of the time. Cultures are different and like it or not sometimes a change has to happen if the product is going to reach it's intended audience.
Its not really getting confused, a lot of the anti-censorship types see localization as censorship. The problem is that changing from the original is referred to as "censorship", so the meaning gets muddled, just as how the term "free speech" has.
Its not necessarily that it was "censored" that they're really complaining about in the first place, but rather that the content they feel entitled to was "taken" from them.
Nah, we all know Nintendo censored TMS because they thought the original outfits were too lewd, despite the game's rating being more than adequate for the original outfits. Oh, and let us not forget about the removed story content.
@@Medachod now here is a question. Do we know it was Nintendo or was it a choice made by Atlus/Atlus USA? Publishers do tamper with releases but sometimes it really is just something internal with the devs where they feel like something would be better done a different way.
I don't doubt Nintendo has required stuff be changed in games but I don't blindly believe everything wrong is automatically their fault. They aren't exactly shy about putting their name on M-rated stuff. I mean the fact they Published Bayo 2 and are going to publish the third game should be evidence enough of that.

It's not really up to PEGI/Nintendo of Europe what gets into the game and what gets changed its up to Sakurai/Nintendo of Japan and CERO

Here's another thing worth nothing that I'm sure not many Ultimate players noticed: the Fighter Spirit for female Corrin was lifted straight from Fire Emblem Fates and it was *NOT* censored. Back in Sm4sh, female Corrin's model had her thighs covered up with armor plates. She even posed in the same exact way as the artwork. Technically speaking, she still has her thighs covered, but... it's a bit weird that her official original artwork was left untouched.
They also censored Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore for the Switch, both in the US and Japan. I was planning to get it, since I never played it on the Wii because I don't buy censored games. The Wii version was uncensored in Japan, but the Switch port was censored everywhere. Flies in the face of what Nintendo said about censorship.

It's an objectively great game. It seems they've kept the changes for the new Japanese release, so it seems that the Japanese developers *_prefer the American changes._* Why can't you?
@@MxPokirby The co-director hated the Wii localization way back when, and Nintendo wanted a quick cash grab, so everyone got the same thing. If this was no big deal, why did Nintendo apologize for not being up front with the Japanese market and offer refunds for digital sales? Also, I don't like censorship at all. Freedom of speech and creativity is important.
That quote was mainly attributed to 3rd Party games, meanwhile Tokyo Mirage Sessions is a 1st Party Nintendo game meaning they can do whatever they want with it. I’m not saying that I agree with releasing the censored version worldwide, quite frankly I don’t agree with that decision, but this situation is not the same as Sony censoring 3rd Party games.

Did you guys know? If you buy a regular Nintendo Switch with the Red and Blue controller and later then buy the set Red & Blue again, you get the opposite colors for the controllers so you have 2 blue and 2 red to use and not 2 times red & blue.
Yeah, Nintendo is generally anti-censorship, but sometimes they have no choice due to differing social norms between Japan and the West. They need certain games (most notably in the "Fire Emblem" and "Xenoblade" franchises) to maintain ratings in both Japan and the West as appropriate for their target teenage audiences, but that sometimes requires reworking of certain sexual content in order to obtain the desired ESRB and PEGI ratings, as the games wouldn't sell nearly as well if they were stuck with adult ratings in the West. (Whether or not they sometimes go further than necessary is a different argument.)
While not as commonly known, this also happens the other way around, as well. Violence isn't as socially accepted in Japan as it is in the West, so you'll sometimes see Western-developed, T-rated (by the ESRB) action games "censored" in the Japanese release in order to acquire the equivalent rating.

There's also a browser called SwitchBru that can be accessed by inputting a specifc DNS server number.
EDIT: Go to your internet settings> click your registered network and go to change settings> change your DNS settings to Manual and type 045.055.142.122 into your Primary DNS and leave the Secondary DNS as it is> hit save and then click connect to this network> it'll then say registration is required and you'll be taken to SwitchBru> hit continue to google and there you go.

It makes _no_ sense to me that digital versions cost the same as the physical releases. There are so many other factors involved in the production and delivery of physical cartridges, compared to simply downloading a digital copy...
Not sure if it's mentioned in the video or even true, but I'm pretty sure that's a rule straight from Nintendo that you have to follow.

When it comes to the spirit thing with Mythra in Ultimate there is something strange there. Even though that yes those spirits noted in this video have been changed there are still a good number of spirits in the game that have that kind of leg and cleavage action going on. As those ones would be just like the censored spirits but somehow have been unchanged even with patches. Any with about all the spirits in there games take a look and see if you can find the ones I'm referring to. Now it might be a case of popularity with Mythra and Camilla being from some big Nintendo games, Xenoblades and Fire Emblem respectively. And the uncensored spirits might have gotten passed are not the most well known, but then there is Shantae and Risky Boots that I would say fall in with while not as popular are still pretty big names that got in just fine.
Same coloured joycons? Meh. Mixed joycons? GIVE THAT MAN A RAISE!
i remember reading an official statement in regards to the golf game was that it was supposed to be a digital omamori and that's why it was patched out a year later because you're supposed to throw them out after a year
I figured it was the fact that people discovered it was why they removed it.
I may be wrong here, but I seem to recall reading that you're not supposed
to open an "omamori" (as it would lose its charm.. or something).
So you could say people "opened" the Switch & found the charm inside.
That outfit on Mythra is actually an alternate outfit that she wore during the "Torna the Golden Country" expansion and could be unlocked for the full game, I don't think I'd count that.
Research says the alternate outfit was done because of her censorship in Smash.

I guess this is more a problem due to lazyness. They simply use here the most current build of the game which is, unfortunately, the censored western version of the game. This plays, I think, well in their cards because they still don't wanna receive higher rating in the west for this game. It's a wasted opportunity and maybe the weirdest decision they could actually have made. So don't expect the Xenoblade Chronicles X Remaster, if it ever happen, to be uncensored.

I’ll admit that Nintendo overall didn’t handle the TMS debacle well at all, but at least Nintendo isn’t forcing smaller devs to change content to their own standards.

With rumors of the Switch 2 using magnets to attach the joycons on that. The little fact at 1:14 makes me think that the rumor is bogus.
Honestly toning down Bernadetta's line was a good move. The original version was way too intense. Wouldn't be surprised if it had given at least one child abuse survivor a PTSD attack.

ThatNormalBunny I’m not complaining, though just to clarify, they didn’t learn much as Tokyo’s Mirrage Session for the Switch not only kept the censorship but forced it in Japan as well, making the Japanese Wii U version the devinitive non-censored version.

Not really they said they were against 3rd party censorship which they have stopped. They never said anything about 1st party which is fine that's their own IP and own Artistic vision they can do what ever they like with it, not really censorship when its a change made by the artist itself. . Fire emblem is their IP so its fine. Going around telling other developers what they can and cant do in their own game is wrong. You understand the difference?
It's weird, but I'm often usually a fan of redesigns that are due to censorship? Like, Camilla being a booby lady is just kinda boring to me and she looks cooler with the full armor and no boob window. Like, I'm not against sex and stuff, but as an artist, I tend to enjoy designs that involve less skin since skin is boring. Everyone kinda looks so similar when naked, so seeing more clothes tends to feel more unique (though I understand that showing some skin can indicate that characters personality and what they choose to show). But I just think more clothes tends to make more interesting designs
