Even as a Liverpool fan I love the post match interviews here. A time when players could be themselves in front of the cameras and not follow modern day robotic protocol.
Don Howe’s words should still be recognised 33 years later : smaller clubs should be allowed and encouraged to challenge and beat the big boys but it’s so much harder these days with that FFP garbage
Even though i was a kid in the 80s, i didn't really watch grandstand much...that theme tune gives me a warm feeling, it was theme to saturday afternoons.

As an Evertonian I laughed on the day. The Liverpool fans thought Liverpool only had to turn up. Talk of 4 and 5 nil. Looking back now and football was the biggest loser that day. Just a bunch of thugs that beat one of the best footballing sides I have ever seen. Jones should have been sent off inside 20 minutes. Rubbish referee. Gould and Howes tactics that day was solely to stop Liverpool by any means.
Who would of thought, a london team with londoners. Back when english main league had mainly english players, and the players were alot of time local to the clubs they played for. Even though people hate wimbledon for what they were like, fairplay to them winning that day. Just funny looking at this seeing londoners playing for a london team, where as today virtually no london natives are playing for main london teams.
Don Howe & Bobby Gould speak some solid straight talkin sense into the post-match mic (even the talking head pundits in the booth grudgingly applaud the Dons)
Arsenal gave Liverpool a right hook in the league cup final in 1987, Wimbledon gave them a left hook in the 1988 cup final, arsenal knocked them out at anfield in 1989 and Crystal Palace carried them out of the ring in the semi in 1990.
They're right. Looking at that again, it wasn't a penalty. I remember that game very well, one of the great cup finals - not for the football, which was scrappy, but for the drama and spectacle. Normally neutrals like to cheer on the underdog, but Liverpool have always been a sympathetic club and lots of people - myself included - wanted them to win this and clinch the double. I love that Wimbledon won in the end, though I also felt sorry for Liverpool as they had a truly great team in the late 80s and deserved the double, which would have been fitting recognition.
Does anyone have the full BBC FA Cup Final Grandstand programme from start to finish. Only seen some videos of the build up before the final but would be great to see.
I never remembered the foul for penalty. It never was one looking at that. Some win fhat - Liverpool had very few weaknesses and saw then win 2.0 at Villa Park in 4th round with 2 quality goals.
Heysel was nothing to do with the Liverpool team. Bit of aggro between Liverpool and Juventus fans (both were as bad as each other) but it lead to a stamped and a wall collapsed. Nobody was beaten, kicked, shot or stabbed to death.
@@josiewallace7968 If only UEFA didn't sell tickets in the "neutral" zone to thousands of Juventus fans and instead gave Liverpool the entire end, as Juventus had at the other end, and if only those Juventus fans in the 'neutral' end didn't start pelting the Liverpool fans and players with bottles and chunks of crumbling terrace. No charge would have happened. 7 previous European finals for Liverpool and not an iota of trouble from them. You do know that Juventus fans had a ban too, right? Juventus had to play their next three games in the European Cup behind closed doors. Inform yourself.
Gentrifying the midfield has knocked the soul out of the game and why you have such delicate actors now, refs are quick to pounce on anything remotely harsh killing the very part of the park the teams are looking to for morale, some things need to be
Vinnie Jones had said he wanted to rip off Dalglish's ear and spit in the hole hence 'In the hole' or 'Yidahol'. You can hear it being shouted in the tunnel before they came out at the start and Dalglish has a word with the ref.
considering how strong liverpool was, at this point, it was an upset. this wimbledon team had no business being on the field with that liverpool team, and yet they did the job.
You're either joking or you don't realise that the old First Division was the same thing as the Premier League. Just a fancy new name that's all. Liverpool at this time were probably the best club side in Europe and Wimbledon were a solid team punching well above their weight. It's without doubt one of the biggest upsets of all time.
Bitter-Sweet win, I was 18 then, am 43 now. I hated and STILL hate Liverpool with a passion, but I remember watchin this thinking there's no way I wanted these tramps from wimbledon to win it either.
LETS BE HONEST IT WAS LIVERPOOL WHO DIDN'T PLAY WELL AND PEOPLE SAY WIMBLEDON DIDN'T LET LIVERPOOL PLAY WELL BULLSHIT.. more like Liverpool LOOKED tired cos of playing too well in the league season
You got a penalty when the Wimbledon player got the ball and still missed 😂 Look at how the ball changes direction completely after the Wimbledon player gets a foot on it. With VAR that tackle would be one of the best tackles in football

... And still wear suits before and after the match.
Nowadays they are like backstreet ghetto boys.
Watching this in 2020. Everything was just so much better during this era.
No media training, love it.

What a great day for football. The underdogs Wimbledon beating the mighty Liverpool 1-0.
Best ever FA Cup final
An awful day for football - a good day for fightball.

Absolute football glory right here.
Great manager, brilliant team.
The best cup final EVER ! !
I saw us win the Cup and a couple months later I was back at Wembley to see Springsteen.
They don’t make summers like ’88 anymore

I loved this back in 1988 & hopefully they'll be serving up more of the same to Liverpool tomorrow night!!! Come on!!!!!!!!

Don Howe's tactics won that game for them lads. Fantastic coach!
Dennis Wise ... A very small man
Such a small man… little Dennis Wise
vinny is being a proper handful
takes me back
I watched this in my mates back garden in East Ham
we dragged big old TV and couch out the door
Missed all this as I was coming home celebrating with bud with my twin bro 🥳🎉
I`ll never forget this and the season after with Arsenal !!
Great to see Bob Wilson
The good old days
George Graham gonna play Dennis Wise, Vinnie still gonna play himself if they make a movie about this..haha
I was there that day ,the media hated that ,dons could play ,but really never got any credit for winning the fa Cup,
great interview great manager pity not in europe the next season!
The reporter said "it wasnt a classic final" how much do you want to bet that if Liverpool won the final he would have said "Yep, classic cup final"
lots of lpool plastics out there
Not a classic match but an incredible occasion and story. Wonderful achievement.

wimbledon brexit v liverpool eu
amazing

Don would really hate it now. He hated before he died so now would really upset him. Spot on clubs from.tbe bottom should be able to get to the top
Good ole days when British players played in the side
Does anyone have the full documentary made about this game?
Sam is only 41 here he looks in his mid 50's at least
Don Howe legend
Jones, Sanchez and Wise were hilarious 😂
Wrong Lawrie! It's Sanchez.
Liverpool still bitter. Your boys took one hell of a beating. Get it right up ya
sharkie12354 They did win it a year later against Everton to be fair
Liverpool took it on the chin. They applauded Wimbledon. Just as they applauded Arsenal the following year.
Don't invent bollocks.
Football was so much better back then.
started from the bottom of football and got to the football league in 9 years and have most consecutive wins in english football history......
It's that actor vinnie damn
Looks like Jones was on the Chalk already 😂😂😂
Vinny jones is steaming lol
