I love your style. I got a scroll saw almost 2 years ago and still haven't opened it (my living situation had changed) and now I want to learn and use it and the jig saw puzzle thought crossed my mind for learning. I'm a crocheter and often times they tell you to buy the cheap acrylic yarn (which is okay to use and I often use it) but after you make a swatch you now have wasted yarn that you can't do anything with so when I teach, I give them cotton yarn to work with that way even if they make a mistake and they're experimening with different stitches they can still use their swatch/practice pieces as a dish cloth since no one cares that it's ugly. It's useful and not wasted and you feel like you actually accomplished something. Same for jig saw puzzles, you learn curves, striaght cutting, 90 degree angles but if you make a mistake it's not really a big deal because you still have the opposing piece that can be put together. I love the nonsandwich technique. I don't have money to turn good wood into "scrap wood" plus I can spray paint one side of the pieces and after they dry spray paint the other side the same color and you have a pretty challenging puzzle since you have no clues to where the pieces go and the pieces can be upside down and you might not even know it. So there's a tip for anyone who still wants to sandwich the pieces but doesn't want to waste anything. Make a solid color puzzle. Do you think heavy weight chipboard will work? I just want to make a ton of puzzles because I have yet to meet a person that doesn't like them and I have a lot of family to give to during christmas. Thanks for putting up with my rambling. :)

BrokebutCreative Chipboard will work for puzzles, but be careful of the dust. Remember to always wear a mask of some sort with any manufactured woods.

    What glue did you use?

I like your technique, it is better then sandwiching two pieces together and using a pattern. I'll need to practice on drawing the locks in the right direction though.

Hi Carl, great video. I'm making a wooden board game for my family and had one question. For the deft lacquer do you suggest gloss, semi-gloss or satin finish for the finish? Thanks, Jim

I like semi-gloss, not too shiny and not too dull.

The easiesrt way to make the puzzle is by using graph paper. LOL...if I remember the video correctly, Ias using an Incra ruler. These are the best rulers on the market and very valuable in woodworking. Rockler, Woodcraft and several other stores sell these but I buy mine off of Ebay for 1/3 the retail price.
    Thanks for asking.

Your lighting way too light to see the details of what you are cutting, and your southern accent makes it hard to understand all you say if you talk fast. For instance, when you state the thickness of the plywood at the beginning, you cannot really understand it. Is it 3/8" thick of 1" thick? Talk a little slower and do not have your light shine directly on your work. Offset it juts a little. Otherwise, great video.
