Just got a stamp shammy and was so glad to find this online. No directions came with it other than "just add water." Baby wipes tend to leave "fuzzies" on my stamps. I like the stamp shammy but was wondering how on earth to store it and how to keep it clean. I stamp almost every day. Thank you for this post.
Bleach caused my shammy to fall apart. I keep my new one in an airtight container which keeps it wet. No problem with odor or mildew. I wash it after every few projects to get the ink out. Sometimes I let it dry out but I mostly do it just before starting the new project so it stays moist.
There is a "shammy" called The Absorber, which is for drying your car. You get a much bigger piece that you can cut up. People are saying it works the same. I have one in my garage so I am going to cut off a piece and try it. A real shammy is made of animal skin, I think. These are synthetic shammies which are preferable. I also use a "magic erasor" on my Tim Holtz stamp platform, and it works well. I do not know anything about the Misti, so I don't know if it would rub off the grid marks.
Thanks for another great video! I can't wait to get some of that Holtz ink blender to clean up my misti! I'd also like to get one of those storage things for my shammy. I went to your blog post but something in my computer is stopping my from seeing if there is a link to them. What is it called? Can you put a link to it in the video description above perhaps? Thanks for all the time you spend making your wonderful tutorials!
Hi Alexandra. Oh dear me I have really neglected my stamps. I usually give them a wipe with a baby wipe but you have shown me here that they need a bit more love and care. I have some stamps that have been covered in staz-on for a while (we are talking years) will this method still get them clean. I was thinking of getting a stamp scrubber. Thank You. Hugs xxx Wendy
I used hero hues India ink black on a clear stamp. I didn’t realize it was permanent and is now not coming off. I am trying to use a light pink ink on a flamingo stamp and it is coming out black. Any suggestions for cleaning the permanent ink off the clear stamp. This was my first time use with this stamp set so to say the least I’m upset.
Do you clean your stamps as soon as you're done stamping or is it okay to wait an hour or two (or more)? Do you clean the clear stamps with anything more than the shammy if you're not using staz on? Thanks for sharing the awesome tips!
Amy Sawade Nienhouse for staz on I try to clean asap. For anything else it can be anything from a few minutes to hours or maybe the next day once I've finished a video 😊
I am sorry to tell you that the link to your post for the coconut (tried 3 times) is taking us to a page that does NOT have the coconut linked to it. .. was looking for a search on the blog and did not see that either. will continue to look. Thank you. Awesome video.
thanks so much. I loved the blog set you did with all the individual things you used I went to AmazonSmile to buy some of them. I so appreciate your thoughtfulness in posting the little pictures. It might be of interest that the glue for the sequins does not come up in Amazon smile.. it helpfully directs you to tape dispensers from the same company.
Alexandra, OH NO... that link also directs me back to the same page in your blog. No link to coconut bowl.. try it for yourself. there are videos listed but not a product list.
Luanna Pierce Did u click on the little pictures--if you do that that is the link and it will bring you to Amazon. If not here is the name of the coconut and you can go to Amazon.com and search for this name: Chef'n Dash Salt Cellar with Flip Top Cover, Coconut.
I haven't personally, I keep getting told about it so I think it's something I will add to the list, but I love my shammy and for $6 on amazon prime it works well for me
There are a few things it is needed for. Things like acetate. The Stazon really stays on! I seldom use it, but I do not freak out if my stamps stain a bit, as long as it does not transfer on the next use.
Jaylina R I found a plastic tub of q-tips at Target, Walmart and also my local dollar store works perfectly for keeping the stamp shammy moist. A lot cheaper than the "coconut" and you get a whole bunch of q-tips to boot! =)
They are available on Amazon. Jennifer McGuire started showing it a few years back for stamp cloth/shammy/chamois storage and she linked to it there. I picked one up that was part of Amazon Warehouse deals where they list items that either have damaged boxes or have been returned. I was able to get it half price that way. It’s really kind of cute and doesn’t have a large footprint on my stamping desk. I’ll try to post a link if RUclips lets me. If not, the name of it is: Chef'n Dash Salt & Sugar Cellar with Flip Top Cover, 3 ⅞-inches | 4 ¼-inches, White. I'm a "newbie" as far as stamping goes. Just rec'd my T. Holtz stamping pad. Never used a sham yet; where do I find them? If I put my shammy in a coconut & do not use it for several weeks, should I still keep it moist w/stamp cleaner? Thanking you in advance.
Debbie VanHorn I highly recommend the whammy and coconut, if you left it weeks it would start to dry out but a spritz of water and you would be going again
Im not a fan of baby wipes and many contain chemicals that can damage your stamp, plus a shammy lasts me 12 months with daily crafting much cheaper than wipes would be
M: I have to agree with you, baby wipes, especially here in CA where we have to be water- conscious! Alex: Can one use 70% isopropyl alcohol to clean ones stamps and stamping platform?? I spritz my baby wipes with EtOH (Isopropyl alcohol) with wonderful results.
In addition to the extra waste, baby wipes oftentimes leave little fuzzies or pilling behind on your stamps. I still keep wipes around on my craft desk for some things, but after years of using them, the switch to a shammy/chamois has given me better results and fewer fuzzies. Whatever works best for each person, though.
No matter what I do I continue to get a stinky shammy. I purchased the coconut, I clean my shammy just as you have explained I have used bleach everything... Then the next day my shammy smells of mold. Help please what can I do to keep my shammy fresh and able to use. I hate the smell!!! ♥

Great tips thanks! Do you have any advice for a versamark pad that I got some embossing powder stuck in there? Ugh! Can I save it?
Hi Wilma, You can still use it; this wont affect the pad; you would try the media scraper that would be my first try

Have you ever tried a shammy like to absorber and cut it to size? It's what I use and I was just curious if there was any difference...
I haven't personally, I keep getting told about it so I think it's something I will add to the list, but I love my shammy and for $6 on amazon prime it works well for me
Citsjustme The giant shammy you can buy at any automotive section is the same thing (only yellow) and it's only $5. Thank you for the tip!
Hedgehog Hollow The Absorber is huge and only $5. Cut up, you get about 6 "shammy's" out of it.
With all the extra steps involved with cleaning after using the Stazon ink pad, why would you choose it over others?
There are a few things it is needed for. Things like acetate. The Stazon really stays on! I seldom use it, but I do not freak out if my stamps stain a bit, as long as it does not transfer on the next use.
thank you for this informative video.
How do you clean your scrub it pad?
Just rinse in water and stand up to air dry.
Where did you purchase the coconut? I have never seen anything like that before.

Thanks for sharing, wasn't sure what would be safe for my stamp shammy.
#commentkindness
Anything goes and a little cap of bleach for less than 15 minutes once a month max is fine
I have a wooden salt cellar, will that work?
Hi Rucha
I wouldnt suggest a wood one and the moist cloth will destroy the wooden over time and you may have mould issues
@@HedgehogHollow thanks for the advice
since the blog is no longer.... that "coconut" is a salt dish used in the kitchen
Do you ever have clear stamps that won't stick to your MISTI? How do you get them to stick again?
Definitely! Wash them with dawn/fairy and warm water, if you still have problems then a sand eraser is the key amzn.to/2ogU2i2
Or, run the back of the stamps across a versamark ink pad and stick onto your mount. Versamark is sticky enough to create suction.
