Thanks, your video was easy to follow and helpful. I now feel confident that I can change out my fixture without calling a handyman.
Today I Changed my first light fixture in my life thanks to your video .
Great timing, Nils! I have three light fixtures I want to change out. This helps a lot.
This video is incredible. He makes all the right comments at all the right moments. I love the helpful on screen arrows and side by side videos like when he turned off the circuit breaker and I visually saw the lamp turn off, I remember things that way! 👏👏 I surely hope you are getting paid to do these because you deserve it! Instant subscriber!
That's very kind of you! I'm glad you found it helpful and thanks for subscribing!
Hi, I found your video after trying three times to hang my new light fixture I bought on the marketplace.....you helped me soooooo much. Now I will be able to hang it with no problems. THANK YOU SIR!!!!!!
Thanks for the video, very easy to understand, just a silly question, how do you actually fasten the wires together and put the cap on? Just twist them together?
Nice work man! I was just about ready to throw in the towel with a fixture that I bought on Amazon (as the instructions are not the greatest for this particular fixture), but you demonstrated and talked about a couple things that I had not seen. It really helped me out. PTL!
I’m going to try this for the first time! Wish me luck 🤞🏾
Yea... don't forget the voltage tester.. if you're home alone and think no one will flip the switch on, check voltage anyway lol..apparently my ceiling fan is tied into my wall outlets ..a little tingle told me so
Been there, done that. Always best to be certain. :)
The whole house is going dark 😂. I trust nobody.
Yep...spoke to an electrician once and he told me he had turned off all the electricity to the house once but almost received a killer shock from the oven.
Apparently the wires from their house and their neighbours were mixed up and noone had ever realised.
So yep, be careful!
can't you just turn off the switch to the entire house and do it? would be easier?
@@Anubis4414 Forreal. Main breaker goes off and the box is getting locked. Idc if its just me and casper. We aint taking no chances 😂
Great video thank you 🙏
Super helpful and easy to follow. Thank you!
Why would you fast forward during the wire nuts part? Literally the whole reason I need this video lol
Thanks dude, this helped a lot me and my mom had to figure it out
Would you recommend wrapping the exposed wires with electrical to ensure the wires don’t touch?
@lrn2diy should you?
This is good timing. I bought a bunch of new light fixtures and don’t want to wait for my husband to get home from his work trip to install them. Think I can do it??
Absolutely. You got this!
I was watching this to see how you held the light up while you were working on the wires. Did you have a second person? That’s my main problem.
Can you make a video on how to swag a light/chandelier that is not centered over a table. Will need to be rewired and new chain for enough length.
Great quality video!
This video was perfect. Thank you!
Thank you! will try it today!
How do I know which wire is which if mine aren't labeled???
Can turn off the switch and start working on the wire, or do I really need to turn off the breaker?
Just tried to change a light without turning off the breaker (house is very old, previous owners don't have a tidy electrical box) and got zapped by the line wire. Not too rough, you could try avoiding touching the exposed wiring)
You don't need to turn of the breaker but I would advice you to do so, since it defenetly is safer
I couldn’t find the link to the voltage tester shown at 1m:08s mark.
How was the load bearing cable released? Looking at 0:45-1:05
Excellent video!
Thank you very much!
Ok on the off chance the cables for the light fixture aren't labeled how can i still tell which ones are line and neutral?
Different colors, Line is usually black, and neutral is usually white. The ground wire (if you have it) is striped.
❤love this video lol
You have screws coming down from the socket area, mine go up through the base of thr fixture, snd i cannot line it up with the holes ti save my life.
Hiw do i deal with this
So when you test it with the voltage tester and it does light up ,what do you do?
Turn off everything in the circuit breaker. Chances are it was wired to a different circuit
Neutral or Nuetral?
Wait wait.. Fasten them up? What does that mean? How do you do that Can someone explain that part it wasnt very clear what is happening
Just fold the cheese!
@@Deryan-tv2tt I did, I went to my fridge and got a slice of cheese and proceeded to fold it. My lights still not hooked up
I wondered that too. I think it’s just twisting the same wires together (black and black, white and white) and forcing the cap over them in a way that won’t immediately fall off. Not an exact science. At least that’s how I did my bathroom light lol and it works.
What are the yellow and red wires?
Just bought a house and need to change the light fixture in the kitchen… as much as I feel like I confidently can do this, I’m terrified to work with electricity!
What will happen if displaced wires touch in the housing?
Of the bare wires come into contact with one another they will cause a short at the circuit breaker. The power likely won’t come back on. That’s what the circuit breakers are designed to deal with.
You forgot to mention there might be a second live wire! Red!!
Mine has multiple sets of black and white wires and I'm confused
Same. I just did mine only 3 wires . The ground. White is your neutral . black is your hot wire .
testing after man handling the wires is crazy lol
I thought that you had to wrap the ground around the ground screw, no?
No. Use his table and you'll be fine.
I honestly didn’t see a black line.. did you?
It's on the far left.
It's mostly covered with white (probably joint compound), but there's some of the black showing.
Kinda blocked most of the viewpoints and was kinda overall not super informative
You’re a lifesaver. First time doing this solo and it was a success thanks to you!! 🫶
