After waiting at Penn Station last night with not a single NJ Transit train into/out of Penn, I wound up taking a car service through my employer at a cost to me of $287!! Yes - NY Penn to Hamilton was a whopping $287!! Amtrak, you MUST do better!!!!!! 😡

You don’t know enough about Amtrak’s struggles to pin the blame on Amtrak. They’ve been trying to get funding for infrastructure upgrades for years, and in the most recent months they’re finally getting to start on projects proposed from YEARS before. Tell the government to do better by giving Amtrak proper funding to make the upgrades that they need terribly.

It was an NJ Transit train that brought the wires down, but they still blame it on Amtrak.

I think the Governor should wait to get the whole story before excoriating Amtrak. A fellow I know who is very knowledgeable about rail in the region is "almost certain" that the downed wire was probably caused by a defective pantograph on a N.J. TRANSIT train. So while the failure may have been in Amtrak's infrastructure, it may have been caused by one of the Governor's own trains! I am no expert, and this fellow may turn out to be wrong, but as long as that possibility exists, the Governor should keep his trap shut.

Amtrak OWNS the tracks. NJ Transit is merely a tenant. I say penalize Amtrak each time this happens. I take the Northeast Corridor train daily .

Probably one of the old NJT MU sets. Those old 70's MU sets should be put out to pasture.

@@VeeBee189 So obviously you didn’t read the comment. I’m not from the area so this is all speculation from my perspective, but you pretty much just said “penalize Amtrak for something they didn’t do.” Also, maybe instead of penalizing Amtrak, maybe give them proper funding so their rotting infrastructure can finally get taken care of.

      Thank god I did not!
This morning commute went as scheduled and right now, my train back to NYP is running on schedule with a bit of sluggishness!
Otherwise, I would've taken the NJ Transit bus in Port Authority instead because thank god I always bring a light electric scooter with me!

I heard there were folks taking the A train to the GW Bridge station in Washington Heights and crossing into Jersey. Apparently Port Authority was crazy busy.

Good thing I got a lightweight electric scooter with me at all times so I always have the backup option to ride the NJ Transit buses.
Every commuter should consider that money saving option instead of being nailed by the Uber price gouging across the Hudson!

The Corruption of Major Mass Transit in the New York New Jersey region is legendary .
40 years old projects are still on the table , being studied ( ie ) to millions of dollars a year .

$100mil is just a drop in the bucket to alleviate the aging infrastructure challenges that Amtrak has to deal with. Band-Aid fix will not make the system more reliable. However, until the new gateway tunnel is complete, you cannot do any comprehensive overhaul of the existing tunnel without significantly impacting service. In the US, everything from environmental impacts assessments to getting funding in place will takes a long time, so I don't expect to see the new tunnel any time soon.
