    Cool outfit...long day with a 2 row head...we used to chop corn the same way; seems like it'd take forever to get over a field. The song "Runaround" by Van Halen came out when I was a kid and it still makes me think about chopping corn.

    We had a New Holland corn chopper in the '70s. Seems like back then they were probably the most popular corn chopper. I don't know who ended up being the best pull type corn chopper in the long run cuz it's been close to 50 years since I've been involved in chopping corn. We had a salvage pile that we got to pack with an 806 with duals on it.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  4 месяца назад

      Very cool. What tractor pulled the chopper. The 806 with duals would have been neat to see.
      Ultimately New Holland is the long time leader. New Holland is the only company in the United States still making a pull type today. Dion builds a pull type in Canada. John Deere discontinued pull types in 2019. Dion supplies a green chopper to Deere dealers. Gehl stopped making choppers in 2006. HESSTON stopped making choppers in the early 90’s and used Dion to supply HESSTON brand choppers until 2006.

      @@bigtractorpower We had a IHC 1066 with a hydro. It was a great tractor for a full type combines and pull type corn chopper. Problem with those is that when the hydro oil would get hot and you pushed in the clutch it would not reengage and then you would jump off the tractor and head back to the farm and come back and see the tractor heading across the field on its own because it was not a neutral yet. Happened more than once. 806 was doing so it's very cool because originally it had a cab on it and my uncle took the cab off of it so it didn't have fenders on it. It was a great tractor and you could see the smoke coming out of the stack two miles away. Plenty of power

    Throughout the year I have had many white tractors, 4-150 that at some point had run every piece of equipment even a rake but mostly pack silage (it had a silage blade) and run the blower. 4-210 which mainly rain a liquid manure spreader. Two 2-105s which were our main everything tractors, now I have 1 which occasionally runs the TMR mixer and wrapper. Two 2-155 one 4wd that has a tired motor. It used to run the chopper and chisel plow mostly. The 2wd one I use to mow, TMR, and sometimes chop.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  4 месяца назад

      Very nice history. The 2-105 is my all time favorite WFE. The Field Boss 4wds are always exciting to see. The 1974 4-150 was the first silver tractor from the company other than the Yard Boss which came out in late 1973.

      That is a video I would like to make. I have all the sales brochures on them. I just haven’t found the Forage Harvester working in the field. It’s definitely an interesting history because international and then Cayce international both used new idea and then they switched over to the Heston built model. When Heston stop making pool type for harvesters, they contracted with Dion to make a Heston pool type and then add a new idea one to the line as well.

    Question I'm not a farmer by any means. But here in Texas, they use combine to harvest corn. I know the Sweet corn is picked fresh due to being a truck driver for years and getting off the field. Why are you grinding all the stalks and corn together and placing them in this cart just to place them in a silo? wet or dry?

    We have a 100 as our TMR tractor. Had a 145 at one point too. Was never impressed with the 145. It should have had a 8.3 instead of a 5.9. I married into our farm. I came from a farm that ran Case and Case IH. They had better transmissions.
