  • What a marathon! Many attempts and fails leading up to this.
This was arguably the pinnacle of DT's heavy era. Many random events throughout the album, so I played this with a stream of consciousness approach and didn't necessarily do everything note for note. Much effort was needed.

What I've loved about DT since I heard OCTAVARIUM in 2005 was their ability to make even the craziest, most off-the-wall piece sound tight, well-arranged and seamless. What I DIDN'T like about either OCTAVARIUM or TRAIN OF THOUGHT was how weak the drums and bass sounded. The guitars were over-distorted, yet lacked fullness, while the keyboards swallowed everything else up in the mix. The drums you play here, Josh, sound closer to what I was hoping to hear from TRAIN OF THOUGHT before I heard the recorded percussive equivalent of a cold breadstick slapping a dead fish.
