Shortline Railway Switching, 2 Train Operation On CCET & Hobo Shoestring Harmonica! Rare Trains

- Опубликовано: 9 ноя 2019
- Short line railroad switching on Ohio railroad shortline Cincinnati Eastern Railroad CCET. Featuring Hobo Shoestring harmonica. 5 cars are spotted at Cohen Recycling, then the grain elevator is switched in Winchester, Ohio. 2 Trains were operated at once! to speed things along. At Winchester the SD45-2 took a cut of tank cars east to Mount Zion while the B36-7 worked the grain spur. The B36-7 took the second train of grain loads to Mount Zion where both locomotives were hooked back together and put on the opposite end of the train to return in the direction they came. The final shot shows them going westbound through Mount Orab, Ohio. The first shot was of the train going eastbound through Mt Orab. This was a busy day for the railroad with the train broken into 2 trains for a rare 2 train operation. The tank cars were left in storage at Mount Zion. The only tank cars that you see on this line are storage cars.
Now, about the harmonica. Americas most famous hobo, Hobo Shoestring from RUclips, sent the harmonica to me at the end of October. This harmonics has been on countless freight trains and ridden countless miles of track all over North America. Check out Hobo Shoestring on RUclips if you want to see some awesome videos of riding the rails. I will be taking the harmonica around with me so it will stay at its home on the rails. Have harmonica, will travel. This was the first train in a week on this end of the line. Towns featured are Mount Orab, Sardinia, Macon and Winchester, Ohio. Filmed November 1, 2019 CE. Thanks for watching! Please leave a comment, check out Shoestrings channel / thehoboshoestring , rate and SUBSCRIBE TO JAWTOOTH!!

Harmonica in its own juices........I mean, harmonica in its natural environment! Haha!
Thanks!
Those Chrissie grain hoppers on the lead end. What branch or short-line is that?
Looked like a IMRL type lead unit. Does that go to Portsmouth?
This line is the Cincinnati Eastern Railroad CCET. 4 year old short line that leases 69 route miles of track from Norfolk Southern. That SD45 is ex Montana Rail Link. CCET has another one in storage on the line but they don't own them. They lease them. This line does go to Portsmouth , Ohio but the connection just west of Portsmouth was cut when they removed the switch earlier in the year. Right now they only use about 53 miles of the 69 miles that they are leasing.

That'd be great to have a bunch of short line maps. I'd won a HUGE box of rail maps at auction years ago. Those were awesome!
I guess at Portsmouth CSX takes freight to Columbus north and Ashland east.
Trains used to come in from the west then swap the front end of the train with the rear end then chug north to Buckeye yard from Portsmouth. Not sure if they still do that because that was mid-1990s when I rode through Portsmouth.
glad to see it went to you! i threw up a bid and was watching
I believe that the proper terminology would be , " basted in his own , HOBO SHOESTRING , natural juices " !
ROCK ON SHOESTRING !

Favorite movie
Good old hobo shoestring! He was definitely an interesting person. Train videos, I am old enough to remember watching the steam trains at the end of the property where I lived when I was a kid. Always stopped what I was doing to watch, and even today do the same thing at 76 years old.
That's a very nice gift and gesture. He couldn't have given it to a more deserving person.Nice!
I like that former MRL locomotive. Thanks for the video and as always.....Thumbs Up!!!!!
Hi JT what a lovely gesture from Hobo shoestring, hope it gives you the enjoyment it gave Hobo over the years. ❤😊
You and Shoestring need to do some collaboration stuff for sure JT that would be so epic!!
Good idea!
Jaw Tooth Yes sir!
JT captures some serious railroading in this episode. A lot of action, old cars and engines working the line thru southwestern Ohio.
Thanks for watching!
Just came upon this older video. I LOVE The Wizard... it's one of my favorite songs!
Glad I went back and picked up this one from the past. Great live action and plenty of it. Plus a little musical interlude. Salute to Hobo Shoestring.
I love the classic GE and EMD power on this shortline. Thanks for the great action, Jawtooth!
Hi from the UK. As someone who is just thinking about building a US railroad layout, this was absolutely fascinateing. We have nothing like your short-lines here in the UK. Thanks for sharing.
Great shots of that SD45 Son ... Mr String is one of my favorite's too ... Thx for sharing ...
Gotta love seeing that old U-boat still out there chugging away!
It's actually a B36-7, one generation later than a U-boat.
A 20 car or so long train, the CCET continues to grow!!
I like these heavy curves and how easy the trains go around them with so many heavy.cars hooked on.
great video!
Cool to see a B36-7 is still working strong!
That semi got a lot of live action, whether he wanted it or not. 😂
It loved it! lol
HA!!! The Wizard!!! I thought about that song too when you showed the harmanica!!!! GREAT SONG!!!
The harmonica from Shoe String was a touching gift. I'll keep my eyes peeled for the followup vid of you on guitar, and harmonica accompaniment.
Railroading becomes problematic sometimes, when crews attempt to work fast. That crews shouldn't have split those cuts in different trains and shoved them off. They may end up cutting their own necks, and a job might be eliminated; or, depending on what other short cuts they took in addition, they may be operating unsafely.
Awesome way to spend a lunch break
That's Awesome that you got HOBO SHOESTRING'S harmonica Jaw Tooth! Now you can play BLACK SABBATH'S song THE WIZZARD for me! Very Nice EMDs pulling a cool mixed freight. I also liked the little red caboose as well Jaw Tooth. I love them old weathered grain cars, they look really good with them old EMD units. Them old EMDs sound so tough Jaw Tooth! Keep up the great work and hope you learn to play that harmonica real soon. HOBO SHOESTRING SURE IS A VERY GENEROUS MAN, you were totally BLESSED JAW TOOTH!
I too watch a lot of Shoestrings vids. Good old guy.
It’s amazing what you do to go and see all these trains and tracks
Cool video Jaw tooth we finally get to see the blue sd45-2
Glad to see you got a gift from shoestring hobo. I have been binge watching his channel recently. He has SO MUCH experience! He can sure do some good train hopping & go on some beautiful rides! I saw one of his videos were he rode through Wyoming, Utah, Parts of Canada. The mountains are so beautiful there! I just hope he is very careful & I hope he don't get busted by the bulls lol! I couldn't never develop good enough nerves to train hop because I wouldn't have the slightest idea what I'm doing haha! Knowing my luck, I would always be getting into trouble & getting lost all the time!
It's been years and years since I train hopped. I only did it a handful of times but I always day dream about doing it again. Probably never will again. I might look up some of my old pics and put some in a video. I got a really cool picture that my friend took of me standing in an open boxcar going over the trestle at High Bridge, Ky. Good times
”Step it up and go son” outstanding, as usual.
Thanks! Lol

The other day I was watching a program about trains that comes on the RFD Channel at 5 PM on Monday afternoons that had an old clip of the N&W 611 on the Peavine back in the 1990's .
I rode it round trip all the way across the Peavine in the 80s and 90s. The last time 611 ran across the Peavine was 1994

I got that same loco today working with two B36-7s on a nice train
If you find someone to play the harmonica, should do a song bout shoestring.. that's awesome you got it..
I would like to find someone who knows how to play it . I play guitar and we could play a Black Sabbath song called Wizard. Check that song out. Ozzy plays harmonica in that song
@@JawTooth funny you say that song. I grew up listening to black sabbath and that was one of my dads fav song. I think with your talent you could come up with a perfect rail riding song. Get some tar with the harm. It will come to ya
Bonjour très cher Ami bien-Aimé , félicitations pour votre courage
Your cool dude, happy train spotting andhqrmonica playing
UK lingo for the Hohner blues harp is "gob iron". Shoestring's done a real nice thing there JT.

Some more SD45 action. And the Klemme Coop and ex-Conrail hoppers on the empties going to the elevator and the Farmers Coop hopper on the loaded consist.
All your videos are great. Always wanted to learn to play a harmonica. Maybe not to late.

GJ, COOL BEANS.
Thanks Rashaun!
I just love the patina on these older cars, but I can't help but wonder just how clean the insides actually are...
Enjoyed this video. You always make them interesting and informative. I am curious as to how those locomotives ran around the grain cars. There must be a pass track or sidings around where the tankers are stored.(the kitty's pal)
nice video man

Those rural communities look real peacefull?always looks like a Sunday.
Thank you Donald! Yes, those communities are pretty peaceful. Not much crime or anything going on that I know of. Except, the old feed mill that use to be in Sardinia. Guy use to play checkers for money in the back room. Lol
Hey that was a really cool video Jawtooth. I wish I could help you out with that harmonica but all I play is guitar. I guess you’ll have to learn to play it yourself. Lol. Thanks for the video. Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. 👍👍👍❤️
Thanks Don!
332 sounds like it has the horn from the gp49 they got rid of! Maybe it's just me,idk? 👍👍
I'll be hanging out with Shoestring for a few days then making my way west damn weather has been messing with me lol.
It has been wet in my area lately. I hope you are going where it is drier out west and sunny. lol
Great video! Enjoyed all the action. You ever learn to play the harmonica? Very easy to play on some simple songs.
