One of your best vids ever. God bless you, thank you for your “yes”, and Happy Easter.
Amen! Fantastic homily. The value in humility is recognizing one’s own, serious limitations.
RetroGuy76, if he doesn’t then I’m becoming an atheist. (No pressure Br. Casey 😁)
Excellent video, Fr. Casey. I must admit that I was relieved to find out you were checking your smell factor. The title and the thumbnail led me to believe that you were wiping tears away. Keep up the good work and thank you for answering "the call".
Beautiful. Thank you, Br. Casey
I wish more people could see this. A lesson on true humility learnt. Thank you Fr. Casey Cole❤️
Wow! This was a particularly good one! I have been going through your many posts to see what you have to say about many issues. Even more, I am using them as a mini-retreat ( maybe I should say maxi retreat) during these difficult Covid19 days. But this post really stands out because you speak of true humility, and most of all, the primacy of Jesus in our lives. He is not a philosophy or a theology., but a person to know, love, and serve in order to be happy with Him forever in Heaven. Thanks, Casey!
I loved this one... as soon as you said that your fear was of smelling, I saw right away the point that you were trying to bring across and I was reminded of a batch of my own "stinks" that I've been trying to work on for a year now.
Awesome! Glad to hear the connection was clear!
Yes. Praise to the Lord for his inspiring Word of Life. Yes, Its true. Thank you Father. God bless your service.
thanks, brother...I found this very helpful advice.
💕🙏🏼💕
That was beautiful.....
happy Pesach! happy Easter!
Peace and good to you as well!
This was such an incredible video! Thank you so much Brother Casey!
This speaks to the journey I’ve been on with God the past couple of years. I’ve always had a difficult time making friends throughout my life, but there was this moment that I realized I need to stop measuring people up to see if they fit my standards of friendship. Instead I started putting those standards on myself and now am working on how I interact with others and how to create true relationships with people.
I’ve realized that change is something to be embraced because when God changes me, He’s really just revealing me to myself! I’m discovering how God crested me, and it is such an exciting adventure!
God bless you Brother Casey!
Glad to hear it!
Thank you for challenging me to be a better person, Br Casey. Love your videos.
i look forward to all your wisdom in every video and i love this im sitting here like wowwww ....genius
this was very timely for me, thanks Brother Casey
You remind me so much of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen. I learn so much from listening to the both of you. Great job. God bless you.
Thanks! That's quite a comparison!
Yes, you do have the charm of Venerable Fulton J. Sheen.
Thanks Fr. Casey, this video spoke to my heart..I do have a b.o that I need to fix. It's always difficult to accept but the truth is sometimes bitter to hear. 🙏
It’s always hard to accept the fact that you have BO...I’m here for ya
Thank you for that moment you asked us to look to ourselves and not the person we were thinking of. Michael, Newcastle UK
Great analysis, bro Casey!
I am so glad I watched the whole video! I actually thought it was going to be about b.o. lol
Haha always gotta see it all the way through!
I'm not catholic but Im really starting to love these videos. Inspirational!
God wants you to be a Catholic Priest
Love this videos, thanks a lot, to pray to be more like God, it really moved something inside me
I love watching your video,I wait what will be your next video.its really interesting to watch your video. God bless you dear take care.
Thanks!
Amen !!! Thanks for a great video !! We are all God's children and we need to LOVE each other , Like our Lord JESUS CHRIST LOVED US !!
Beautiful message
Thank you Br. Casey, Point taken.
You are so wise beyond your years dear brother.
Exactly! Love the test you made. Very well done.
I would add however, we can say with certainty that Jesus is not blind and that obedience to Him is the only to live a life of love, virtue and happiness. Also, we should always be weary of a radical skepticism which has been a poison to our modern mindset. Confidence is not a bad thing, and the principle of non-contradiction ought to be always at our finger tips whenever we make statements about self-doubt.
Dear Lord help me to discern my blind spots, help me to want to live in the Light and Lord bring me closer to Jesus, from the crib, through his lifetime and to the Crucifixion. Finally Lord help me to embrace the Resurrection and the Gift of Salvation. Amen.
Amen
Thank you for this video. You are being open to constructive criticism and I am open to my blind spots.
I really think this is my favorite video of yours
I love your last words, "we all smell". I will remember that. Much love.
I’m not Catholic but this Channel lets me see you all in a new light. If your parish was near me I’d attend. Keep letting God use you.
Thanks, very encouraging!
The Gospel today is about the young man who asked Jesus how to gain the Kingdom of Heavens and Jesus answered him to follow the commandments. The young man said that much he was already doing. Jesus then told him to sell his possessions and follow Him. That reminds me of when I was a kid and watched a movie about the life of Saint Francis of Assisi. We were very poor back then, but I had been given some cheap, simple gifts for children's day. Because of the movie, I gave away my gifts to someone who had not gotten anything (I can still remember that green blouse :-) Incredible how today, that I have considerably more compared to that, I wouldn't be able to give but only what doesn't make any difference to me... Great Gospel and great video, Brother Casey, to help us think about how we see ourselves... Thanks. God bless.
Br. Casey, a number of months ago i left a comment that was substantially less than charitable. It has been bothering since. Please accept my sincere apologies for it. I pray that your Lenten season has been Holy and fruitful. In Christ.
I appreciate your response. It means a lot to me, and the People of God, to see such humility and contrition. We all make mistakes, but few are "man" enough to admit them. Peace and good to you.
You sound like a hateful person - brian. Pity
I agree that each person should be aware that we have weaknesses we cannot see. I do not think on a societal level we need additional criticism though. We don't even know what we stand for or where we are going at this point. We have gone too far in social reflection.
Beautiful reflections about prayer, brother Casey. For me the prayer is a love relation between the God and myself. Our known dominican said/wrote: /translate from Polish to English:/ "It doesn't matter how much you say in prayer, it's important how much you love" Paweł Krupa OP. - Google Translator rules - my English is not perfect. Greetings from Poland.
Good advice to live by!
As an 80 year old Baptized Catholic who has studied many religious beliefs and philosophies in my past 42 or 43 years. You have sparked a possible reconcilation in me. I have always enjoyed the liturgy, which was to me the "Greatist Show on Earth "
Glad to hear it, thanks for sharing!
Amen. That is also one of my biggest fears.
I love breaking in the habbit!
I thought the thumbnail was of you dabbing and I absolutely lost it
Some people hate for no reason at all. They hate for the sake of hating...
Didn't expect that :D good parable
God bless you
God bless you😇🙏
Amen to that .
Amazing...
Großartig!
Brother Casey Thank-you for allowing God to use you.
que dieu vous benisse
Hi Brother, I tried to let my spiritual director know more about my life so that he could tell me when I smell, but he seems to not buy this idea very much and thinks I'm simply long-winded ... how can we ensure that our intellect does know our true selves?
So true
I really need a spiritual director since I am soon to be lay Missionary of Charity, I desire to know if I spiritually smell good, I need a clear vision on my new journey as a consecrated. Please brethren, pray for me. I would really appreciate it. God bless you all.
Brother Casey - we're all in love with him aren't we? Have we fallen back in love with the Church because of him? Even if only a few can say Yes, I guess that's his time well spent.
Franciscans? Always ducking and diving, you can't land a punch on them. Do we hate them? Well, kinda. Do we love them? We surely do.
When there's tendency that I find myself alone and no one else to be there and no one else to talk to, what I do is to treat myself as my own enemy, down to the minute detail, but in a good way meaning that you should not defend yourself to yourself. If you're wrong, your wrong. It takes tons of effort, tears, fears, prayers and silence to probe oneself but Christ is the light. It's not a one size fits all method but anything that helps is worth taking.
Reminds me of " birds of a feather flock together"
When you'd be sent on a mission, you'd probably smell a lot. More so when travelling on uphill sites, in slums, etc.
Br. Casey, could you please do a video discussing where Jesus went between His death and resurrection?
My father asked me this question and I responded that Jesus went to Hell or to the Bosom of Abraham but was not satisfied with my answer. Could you please discuss this more in a more theological perspective? Thank you and HAPPY EASTER!
Wish I could say that I had an answer for this, but I have no idea!
Off the subject....how do u deal with ur parish priest (small parish)....will not wave or speek to me or my Morher...what's ur take on this
Amen
Do you think you'd ever become a priest with a parish? Because I would fly to your church just for your homilies.
It is likely that in a little over a year, when I am ordained a priest, I will be assigned to a parish.
Maybe he's talking about some Eastern Catholic churches? Byzantine Catholic churches allow married clergy if they're married prior to ordination.
Breaking In The Habit Come back to St. Camillus please!
Jose F. Hernandez it's not, some eastern churches within the Catholic church, our syriac maronite church being the example I am most familiar with, allow priests to be married if they get married before being ordained a deacon, but those priests cannot become bishops (in the Maronite church).
The music again!
I'm not Catholic but I've been trying to understand other groups of Christians. At first, I thought this video was going to be funny. Then, I got a pleasant surprise. It's serious without being damning because you're pointing out a weakness in yourself as well. Christianity should never be US versus THEM. In theory, we all belong within the body of Christ. It's a bit harder in practice because we're human. Anyway, great video
Glad this was helpful! I appreciate your sharing this, and hope that Breaking In The Habit continues to speak to you as a non-Catholic!
Breaking In The Habit Thanks for noticing my comments and in general being a nice person even though I'm not a member of your faith. It means a lot
@@carverredacted thank you for acting differently from those of your faith
What about knowing your proclivities and deploying them?
Father you are the puber senex. It is amazing the way you evangelize
I wasn't thinking about anyone I know. I was thinking about that one Fr. Martin video and war going on in the comment section. tbh
In one church one nun joked on the priest . He needed to have shower before going to bed and she couldn't finish with the laundry . So when he get nervous about smell she told "Take it easy - the saints doesn't smell"
I take a bath once a week whether I need it or not.
It is also one of my fears since I was 9.
You strike me as sincere and decent. A person I could be on friendly terms despite the fact I'm not a fan of religion. No one is perfect.
Prayer is so important. Jesus prayed all the time. He went away to pray. Let Christ shine in your soul. :)
When I saw the thumbnail I thought you were dabbing lol
"Your so vain you probably think this video is about you" Fr. Mike
Be devoted to your guardian angel and ask him to tell you everything that's wrong with you and BOOM! You end up crying! You end up in the confessional. Angels are tough. Mama Mary has a gentler approach. God Himself, eh ... Depends. Sometimes He's gentle sometimes tough. I'm not even joking.
TRUTH
Reading the topic and the still shot of this video is you putting your face into your arm. My first thought was, is he crying? Lol. I was so wrong. I got your book in the mail earlier today. I'll post my picture and opinion on Twitter.
Very cool!
I thought he was crying too.
This video made me think of a country I once visited where no one wore deodorant . Smells are relative. It's like the old song says "Can't please everyone, so you've got to please yourself"
Are you 100% sure God exists? I'm at about 75%. How does one get to 100%? I'd love to be free from ever having any doubt.
Happy Easter weekend to all !
If you knew you had BO you would feel pressured to address it. A friend of mine used to say, knowledge is a burden. The more we know the more we're on the hook to do. He would say, please please, only tell me if you must. I think this is a big reason why people are comfortable not knowing. I think the key question is what is the benefit of knowing?
LouisFGraham Well the answer to your question is exactly what you say: it calls us to change. Sure, it’s comfortable to not know, but is ignorance really a defense for our actions or a way we want to live our lives? Once we are awoken to an issue-ours or in the world-we are responsible to make a change, which is a good thing.
We don't know that we don't know.
I think the priest was talking about the blindness of the non-Catholics rather than the supposed perfection of the Catholics. After all, how could an authentic, Confessional-using Catholic possibly see himself as perfect?
I don't find anything about you annoying. You're quite refreshing.
When Jesus said "One of you will betray me" his disciples said "lord, is it I" not "its probably him". That's the kind of mentality we need.
that's one of my fears
My biggest fear is, forgetfulness.
Good points. But I also see this can be carried too far in a way? I don’t even know how to express this correctly but there are people out there who want to lead us into sin in some disguise of acceptance. I guess I’m saying there is a real danger that we could follow a blind person into a pit as Jesus put it. We really need to discern what people say and pray and know the truth about many things the church has been very clear on.
I'm not saying that we need to accept everything about someone or that everyone has a valid opinion. There ARE definitely right and wrong answers. What I'm saying is that we need to have the humility to realize that sometimes WE'RE the ones with the wrong answer! It's only when we're in diverse and honest community of prayer that we can start to shed light on our own blindness.
I thought he was just gonna say the Amazon synod.
Edit: I can relate though.
Ausgezeichnet!!!
you're brilliant and beautiful
It's a good video but why do you put the Walmart musak on in the background?
Not sure what Walmart you're going to to hear music like this...
lol, the thumbnail
My experience of the internet is 100% the opposite of yours. Especially on social media (like Facebook and Next Door), my beliefs are judged, condemned and damned, usually by the irrational political left. There is no so-called safe haven where I only meet like-minded people.
I've never given Brother Casey's videos a thumbs down....until now.
Ironically enough, you're proving my point by your comment. Just because you haven't experienced something doesn't mean it doesn't exist, it means that we live in echo-chambers that do not allow us to routinely interact with other people's positions. What I share is not my opinion or something I pulled out of thin air, it's the findings of the National Academy of Sciences. There is actual data to support it. www.pnas.org/content/113/3/554.full
i should've seen this much earlier
0:12 is that a dab???
Just checking the old pits to see if I smell! Not cool enough to dab...
That's a lie and you know it!!
"Some ATHEIST I know, have done some wonderful thing" and some Christian have done horrible things in the name of God. Did the pope said that ?
Javier20 .Javier20 Maybe he did. Certainly sounds like something he would say. My favorite is from Karl Rahner, something to the effect of “There are many that God has that the Church does not have, and there are many that the Church has that God does not have.”
If you lived in a Dominican house, and stank, your brethren would not be slow to tell you. You Franciscans are too nice for your own good. That said, they've snapped you up, and their gain is our loss. You're a good preacher.
Jesus Christ.... the source of everything
The most important question the disciples asked Jesus:
'Is it me, Lord?'
Such a good point!
We all stink! We are stinky sheep and Jesus is our shepherd. 😊
Hey brother, any tips to overcome sexual sins?
Well, that certainly depends on which sins you're talking about...
+Herrera If I may, this will be general but I think applicable. If you have any questions about it, feel free to follow up:
1. You are biological. Biology is very old and very deep. That which is deep is a drive and not a choice.
2. You will always have drives.
3. You do, however, have a frontal lobe, a prefrontal cortex. It can regulate your drives
4. Christ sends us the Holy Spirit to educate (and much more. This is RUclips, not a systematic theology) us
5. In the Bible, what are drives are not called 'sins,' just temptations'
6. Temptations ca be resisted
7. We must decide to resist them because they are biological, which means deep and automatic
8.Thus, you must choose between your drive(s) and your actions
9. Only a greater love can overcome a drive ('temptation')
10. It will not be easy. This never is.
11. thus, you must be patient and persistent. this will last your entire life
12. It will be worth it
13 You must be completely honest with yourself as well as with God
14. Take advantage of the Sacrament of Confession
15. Find some way of serving Christ at every moment. We are most vulnerable to temptation when we are alone, in the evening, when we are distracted, when we have not prayed, or when we are idle.
16 Decide to learn (and then work at it) how to make every act an act of repentance.
17. Love others more than you love yourself. Every sexual sin uses others for our own good. Love others so that the best in you works for the best for others.
18. Love God above all, with all your heart and soul and mind and strength.
19. Memorize the _Suscipe_ prayer, meditate on it, and live it.
20. Read Hans Urs von Balthasar. Start with his _Engagement with God._ Twice. Grow from there.
Go with God.
+Aristo Telian This is good advice.
I can have an input but I don't know what sexual sins in particular are you talking about. I've given up the hope of entering the monastery to be a monk because I have sexual urges and I thought before the monks don't have it or overcome by staying in the monastery. Also I don't like the set up in the monastery that each of you have your own cell that is your own small bedroom to sleep. Usually at night when we are about to rest to sleep that's the time we have sexual temptation like doing masturbation to release it. But if you are in the monastery you should never indulge to this act. But this temptation can be averted if two people share own cell-bedroom of course with separate bed. I found it if I sleep with others in the room the temptation is less. Like the Hare Krishna group they allowed you to stay in their ashram provided you share some choirs in the ashram like cleaning or cooking or gardening etc and their cell-bedroom two people shares in one bedroom of course separate bed that is so convenient to avoid temptation. I know a lot of stories in the seminary because each of them have separate cell, some of a gay priest went to one of the seminarian and doing blow job that is happening because the seminarian was by himself in the bedroom, imagine if there are two or three sharing in the room that would be avoided because the moment the gay priest enter the room the other will witness it and will create scandal thus the temptation of the gay priest to blow job the seminarian will be unlikely. I know some of the ashram in India and some Buddhist they share bedroom like 2-4 in the room, unless they are all gays and doing some kind of orgies over there that's their fault. The only thing we have problems with someone sleeping with you or group is if one of them is snoring loudly that will ruin your night. But for me I prefer to have only two people share in one cell, maybe if you find him snoring at night you could have arrangement with the Abbot to solve it. I guess I can sleep with other snoring because we all snores unknowingly. The trick to that is to make sure that both of you sleep at the same time so you will be indifferent to snoring and try to get used to hear it or if the other really snore louder ask the Abbot to move you or him to other cell, I mean those snores louder should share room with those who snores louder. Or if that not fix the problem with two people snoring louder together that's maybe solved to sleep alone in one cell.
You probably shouldn't be a monk.
Is nationalism a sin/evil?
It depends what we mean by nationalism and what it leads us to do. I don't think there's a problem with being "patriotic," but when our nation becomes the most important aspect of our lives (basically a god) and causes us to hurt others who are not a part of this country, it is definitely a sin.
@@BreakingInTheHabit I see. That makes sense. I know of a quote of Pope Pius XII that says: “It is quite legitimate for nations to treat their differences as a sacred inheritance and guard them at all costs.”
That’s not your biggest fear, it’s your ‘biggest worry’ , not you biggest fear; your biggest fear is something else! 🤓
.........I would think a big fear would be of an updraft when you forget to have on your underwear...........
Luckily we're not Scottish and this isn't a kilt... we wear clothes underneath our habits.
....good to know....a load off my mind.....THANKS.......!!!!
lol
...thanks!!!...my good friend is a Franciscan brother.......I told him he never looked good in a dress!!.....I always go for the chuckle.......laughter is the best medicine........
