Kentucky Route Zero - Act III - Too Late to Love You (in-game version)

  • The ephemeral musical centre-piece of the third act of Kentucky Route Zero, a game that's doing things I always wished games would do. Junebug and Jonny perform to what could technically be called a crowd, putting a post-robotic spin on a song they heard in this very same tavern a long time ago.

I remember watching this scene for the very first time two summers ago, headphones on, halfway through the night, in a dark room lit only by my computer screen. It was like opening a portal to a magic world, not very unlike from the ceiling flying away in the video. One of the best gaming moments I have ever had, and which I'll definitely never forget.

The best part of KRZ, as portrayed by this and every other scene, is how the “choices” you make don’t change how the story would be told; instead they change the emotions behind the narrative, which in turn reflect your personality. Literature in pure form.

Good idea. Like memories awakening. I think currently it can be implemented like this: print a picture and hang it on the wall, if the camera in the room detects that someone is looking in the direction of this picture for a long time, smoothly turns on the scene with the song on the nearest screen, if there is a High End sound system will be generally excellent.

Junebug & Johnny seems like an allusion to Eurythmics/Annie Lennox & David A. Stewart here; Junebug's voice is very reminiscent to Annie Lennox in this song. (Which is a good thing! Annie Lennox is a phenomenal singer.) One of the most beautiful from all KRZ's episodes tbh.

I had the same impression, the song is really sounding like Eurythmics, not to mention the duo and the way Junebug aings. I'd love to see a movie based on this game.
