    Chris Eldridge is absolutely one of the best acoustic guitarists alive, and Chris Thile is one of the best mandolinists to ever live.

    It’s a marvel of tone, speed, tone and execution on both their instruments. Chris is the best at his instrument look around and try to find someone with his ability. You can’t. It’s a honor to be living in a time where Christopher Thile is because a prodigy like him comes along so rarely. The GOAT

    An instrument that retains the soul of a great maker, the souls of great musicians plainly presented, the souls of two very different, passionate composers, it makes my bloody head spin. I sometimes think that bearing witness to something that's both great and small like this is the best and highest purpose my life can have. Everything else is just paying bills. Thanks, Mando Bros (a great and soulful store in Staten Island, btw).

      grossjam Since you’ve spoke on the performance about as eloquently as one can, I’d like to just point out the older gentleman in the background taking video and using his phone screen like a viewfinder on a camera. Gave me a chuckle.

    Few times I've seen a genius level of performance with an instrument. Perlman with Violin, Yo-yo ma with Cello. Thile has reached that "genius" level with mandolin.

    Beautiful. Amazing technical skill and fluidity on both instruments. Have listened to this video many times and it is still incredibly impressive.

  • @margora
    @margora 12 лет назад +3

    Even though he is trying out the mandolin, the performance of the Bach (from BWV 1002) is remarkably fluid and exceptionally musical, and the tempo is what one expects on a modern violin, not a mandolin. The performance of Tennessee Waltz is exquisite, chamber music of the highest order.

      G doesn't he use a hybrid combination of string gauges?

    • @Ratstick58
      @Ratstick58 6 лет назад +1

      +b gilley yes he uses the g from the 74 and the e and a from the 75. But this wasn't his loar he was just trying it out. To me he sounds a little quieter and smoother than on his custom set, but maybe he had them string it up with the hybrid set before hand? That's why I'm asking.

    • @bgilley8199
      @bgilley8199 6 лет назад

      G that makes sense. Yeah I doubt they strung it up special just for this video, though it's possible.

    alas in the history of music virtuosi like Thile or Sierra Hull have no lasting impact unless they produce something that touches the soul rather than only the educated musical intellect. the less contacr with the dirt if not filth of human existence the less an artist has to express or communicate with the rest of us. Sorry, I'll take Monroe, Wakefield, Rector, Everett Lilly, Jethro, Bobby Osborne, over the virtuosi any day of the week. soo glad none of them were home-schooled so that their souls and hearts wouldn't be tainted by the wicked dirty world the rest of us grew up in

    • @flyshopbumtv7273
      @flyshopbumtv7273 5 лет назад

      That can be your opinion, but I wouldn't really call myself educated, with musical intellect, but I would take thile and hull over any of the others any day of the week, and they touch me alot more. So you cannot say for hat they will not leave impact, because as far as I'm concerned, they have made an impact that will stand the test of time
