    You can always use the best and comfortable way for yourself because everyone has different style which makes every DJs unique. However, different genres generally demand particular techniques of mixing even though you can improvise if it is needed.Therefore, you could have your settings arranged according to your preferences and the genre. One fact is up-faders offer better control but you can also set the curve sharp of your x-fader for your specific needs. In any case, it is better to get familiar with both of the faders if you want to have full control on you. To have control both of the faders will give you more possibility. Up-faders and EQ's for the long transitions are generally better for the genres such as techno, tech house where the transitions are supposed to be gradual and x-fader might be more useful for the genres such as hardcore, jungle, hip-hop where you need quick cut or faster transition in a short time. So, it is good to have both of the faders available in the case of it is needed and if it is already settled for your own setting. Since you are the DJ you should decide whether you need a crossfader or not. But do not forget that there is no limit the way of mixing, so you can always implement new techniques or try to improvise.

    I have a Xone:42 mixer and I use the crossfader for doing very quick cuts like Dave Clarke did back in the day with the source select switch on the DJM-800. Sadly Pioneer doesn't have that anymore. So one side of the x-fader has audio going through and the other one doesn't, and I create a very small gap using my thumb in between which I move the x-fader. I play techno by the way.

    Another reason why you should use up faders: The FX on a Track of the mixer just work post fader but not post crossfader. That means if you for example put a reverb or an echo on your deck 1 and turn down the upfader you’ll still be able to hear the reverb/echo after you pulled the the volume to 0.
    But i if you don’t want this effect the the crossfader might be useful. But in generell I like to use the upfaders more.
    And @Sound of Arman if you want to scratch or chop another song in you should use another crossfader curve( the left one on this mixer) because:
    1. you won’t turn down the volume of the running deck
    2. youll be able to hear the scratched deck instant at full volume. (To adjust use the umfader its much more precise )
    Cheers

    I have a Rane 4 and I don’t use my cross fader at all. I use EQs, filters or fader on my control and my blends sound amazing

    I noticed that with the crossfader techinque, your mids lows and highs are all at 12:00 (Full Volume) for the track coming in. I think it would sound much cleaner if you had bass at 9:00 and mids and highs at somewhere between 10 and 11 or however you usually do it. Then slowly bring the volume fader up for the track coming in and bring the cross fader towards the middle at the same time. From there you can EQ rest of the way and gradually bring the volume fader up completely, flip the basslines at the right time and gradually bring the mids and highs to 12:00 while cancelling out the mids/highs for tracks going out, then killing the bass. Once you did all that you can then gradually bring the volume down completely for the track going out and cross fade completely to the track coming in at the right time. Basically the same way you EQed with the volume faders, just using the cross fader. I don't see many people using this technique anymore, but its definitely a cleaner sound in my opinion because you won't get any noise bleed. With the volume fader even completely down, there is still some noise bleed. Of course this will not be as noticeable if you are playing live at an event.

    For those who raised the crossfader question, they are just so ignorant about djing and still acting like they know stuff, I saw people at your previous videos saying that your mixing was pre recorded

    • @SoundofArman
      @SoundofArman  4 года назад +1

      Possibly you are correct - I think those are the haters who aren't actually interested in DJing. But I wanted to make this video anyway because I figured some beginner DJs may not know how to set up the crossfader or understand when and why they should use it (or not).

    Superb video and mixing, Arman! I was wondering if the cross fader could be used to transition between genres e.g pop and house, as I struggle with this

    • @SoundofArman
      @SoundofArman  4 года назад +1

      Yes, you can definitely use it for more diverse sets, when you have to go between say a rock song and a hip hop song or something. There is no way to do that with beat matching usually, so you have to get creative and use other mixing methods. I don't have these skills because I've never really tried, but if you go to mainstream clubs and watch the DJ, or even wedding DJs, they are very skilled in this and I'd wager you'll see them using the crossfader.

      Me too, crossfaders for quick and short transitions and eq and volume for longer transitions. Luckily i use djay pro where you can apply effects to the crossfader. One i tend to use often is the eq effect that tweaks the eq of both the incoming and outgoing for you as you move the crossfader.

    Iv been DJ'ing for about 2 months now and was wondering when ur cancelling the EQ's on the track coming in before bringing them up to 12 oclock , is there such thing as you shouldnt have the high eq's clashing with the other track? or does it vary for each transition depending on the tracks? so like should you take out the high eq on the track playing gradually as your bring the other one in?

    a good dj wouldnt say how to dj better (with or without a cross fader) duh !! every mixer in todays high end range of equipment comes with a cross fader as (STANDARD) the reason for this is HIP HOP DJ,S IN THE 70.s 80,s were manipulating vinyl to play songs @ the same speed so clubbers didnt have to stop dancing while u changed disc wich is where (MIXING) was born ... matsushita made the sl 1200 in 1972 wich was meant to b sold as a high end quality vinyl player but its solid sturdyness along with an invention called (rosie) 1960 summert 3 chanell mixer with mic SET THE FOUNDATIONS OF THE TRUE DJ GENERATION AS WE KNOW IT !! the cross fader is the hart of any mixer 2 say its not needed is like using a samurai sword as a lump hammer !! cue points and samples intermixed rely heavily on precision and sharpness we dj,s call CUTTING!! the quicker u could cut or have time to manipulate the vinyl ready 4 the next cue point became known as (SCRATCHING) the more complex the pattern (between vinyl movements and fader shut offs is pretty much what we call 2day as ) FUCKING AWSOME!! unless u play trance or progresive house in wich case your fader should be stuck with duct tape in the middle pmsl that would b like having female company and twiddling her tits not knowing her vagina (wich is also in the middle) also has the potential to go up down left right !! grind it how u like the pleasure is phenominal oozing with creativity the possibillitys r endless (OR) u could just place tape over a vagina n go up down with the titties 4 the rest of your life im sure girls love being rubbed up without penitration (THE CHOICE IS YOURS LISTEN TO THIS CUNT OR DO WHAT I DO )....... GET CREATIVE
