I acutally cannot believe that I have never heard of this artist. I stumbled upon him by accident through an article on ArtNet. As it appears, he seems to be perceived only through his later main body of work, which has often been dismissed as "kitch'". It´s unfortunate that by this people fail to realize what a talented artist he was from a very early age one, as this video shows. It´s always very interesting to see the early works of artists, and the kind of stuff he painted or drawed at a very early age shows what a natural born talent he was. Thank you for having uploaded this video, even though it´s been some time. Take care whoever is in charge now for promoting his Art 👍

Idgaf about elitist art critics. Thomas Kinkade inspired me when I didn't know who he was. When I was young, I often saw prints of his paintings. They always give me a sense of longing, nostalgia, coziness, and happiness. When I'm sad, I just look at his paintings of cottages and autumn trees. I even have a print of his one of his paintings in my room. Only recently I had the knowledge of knowing who he was. Of who painted those lovely pictures of places I want to be in. So art critics hated him? Then fuck 🖕 them. Thomas Kinkade's paintings made me experience more emotions than any of those postmodern bullcrap.
I remember as a kid in s.fl doing my best to make it to the mall. Surpassing all the stores just so I could make it to the Thomas Kinkade gallery. Today in a charity shop a picture caught my eye and it was a beautiful, calm painting (print) of one by Thomas Kinkaide and I had to have it. The manager said the artist's last name and googling it I found out his full name and now a fan of his mesmerising style. His pictures truly are enchanting and you expect fairies or elves to pop out of the cottages it has that fairytale feel to the pictures. How sad he is no longer here, but his wonderful style lives on.

A few thoughts after watching this - - his early frontier/western paintings were really good. If what the gallery owner said was true, and his exhibitions sold out, then he would have no problem becoming a successful artist, even running workshops. - his first print of Dawson, Alaska is a rip-off copy of John Atkinson Grimshaw’s technique. JAG was doing that in the 1880’s and 1890’s. - ironically he chose to develop a style criticised as being extreme kitsch, and shunned and ridiculed by the art world - and go on to build a billion dollar business empire now known to have employed dubious methods that caused financial ruin to many of his franchisees. At least his paintings give his fans enjoyment, but it’s sad that the acceptance from the art world that he craved was in his grasp in the early 1980’s, but he chose the road to mass commercialised fame and fortune instead. All he had to do was keep at creating lovely American wilderness scenes, sell the originals, and run workshops. He wouldn’t have been a billionaire, but his life would have been easier and longer.
I looked up that his net worth was 60 million. Any thoughts on how there would be such a huge difference between the 60M net worth and billion dollar company as you suggested? Thanks!

I know this documentary is pretty biased and Kinkade wasn't a good person in many ways. On top of that I'm an anti-theist, so I'm quite the opposite of him when it comes to ideology. Still I find his work really inspiring and see just simply an honest expression in them. I know people like to compare his work to other artists, and I firmly believe that they are often doing a mistake of grouping all pieces of art under one big umbrella. I love the works of Beksiński or Giger for a whole different reason for example. I'm not an American either, but I do find his scenes familiar and nostalgic for the most part, maybe seeing his Christmas works as the most memorable ones, despite not really celebrating it for the last 10+ years. The main thing I really disagree with Kinkade is the way he sais that the biggest compliment is when people say that they want to be in his paintings. I find it to be a huge mistake and I claim that we should all look at his works and instead of wishing to be there, we should aspire to bring them to life. Not explicitly an idealized and faith centric utopia, rather a brighter future for all.
The true story: Evangelical painter Thomas Kinkade once was revered among Christians as the 'Painter of Light,' known for his sentimental scenes of country gardens and pastoral landscapes that led to a commercial empire worth $100 million a year. His life was much less pious, and far-less glamorous. Estranged from his wife, he was found dead in his bed with his much younger mistress. Published reports about the years leading up to the troubled artist's death paint a much different picture than the pseudo heavenly landscapes that earned Kinkade millions - it includes drugs, alcohol, 'territorial urination', misogyny and sexual harassment. Praise be.
He was separated from his wife for two years; he back-slided from his faith. “Let anyone among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone” ~ Jesus Christ. Regardless of his personal life, he was a great artist and now that he’s gone, let him Rest In Peace and be judged by only God.
I think he had a fun life. Alcohol & drugs & young women & fame & fortune. Nothing tragic about his life at all. In fact, to die young is most preferable to dying old & decrepit, stinking of piss, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's. Yea, I'd say Thomas had a charmed life. Seriously. He had a great time and got away with it.
Thomas was a damn good artist and a Christian but I read that he was a real bastard to work for. Some say his died from suicide. I just don't know who he really was; but then only GOD can judge.
I prefer his early work. They discuss it from 31:48 to 35:10. But his later work from 35:30 on is just too cutesy for my taste. The bible thumping talk of prayer and Christianity makes me uneasy as well considering the fact he cheated on his wife and died from alcohol poisoning. It seems to me if he was going to live that sort of a life he could have done it without bothering Jesus about it.
Unfortunately you are under the delusion that Christian are perfect people. If your faith is based on how Christians sin or live their lives then you have missed the point. It's never about other people. It's about Jesus and the gift of salvation he gave you
If only we can live in his paintings
Yea I don’t know why the hate it’s really beautiful work to me

FORMIDABIL MARE ARTIST
Praise be.
Drugs and alcohol is always a downfall.
This is the most insane rabbit hole I’ve ever been down

Are liberas allowed to like his work?
he was a typical Republican fraud using the God angle to sell his painting by numbers fraud
Yes. I don’t like the man myself but yes.
NOT TUTORIALS, ONLY HIS LIFE .... ????
I prefer his early work. They discuss it from 31:48 to 35:10. But his later work from 35:30 on is just too cutesy for my taste. The bible thumping talk of prayer and Christianity makes me uneasy as well considering the fact he cheated on his wife and died from alcohol poisoning. It seems to me if he was going to live that sort of a life he could have done it without bothering Jesus about it.
Unfortunately you are under the delusion that Christian are perfect people. If your faith is based on how Christians sin or live their lives then you have missed the point. It's never about other people. It's about Jesus and the gift of salvation he gave you
What about his drug use?
