    Talking about loving animals and becoming a veterinarian really helped me! I am in highschool right now and honestly I love the medical aspect of helping animals and especially the conservation side but I do not love classes like physics and chem and some of biology. When I figured out that all four years of undergrad had a lot of those classes I didn’t know if I could be a a vet. I was devastated because I thought that if I don’t love those specific classes, I couldn’t be a veterinarian. How important is loving those hardcore science classes to becoming a vet? Do you use those classes in vet school?

    • @AdriTheVet
      @AdriTheVet  5 лет назад +11

      Hi Isabella! I really think undergrad is just a stepping stone. The classes in undergrad can be boring and difficult but it's just something you have to get through, because I don't think it is like vet school at all. I don't think loving biochem, calculus, physics or any of those hard core classes is important, but what is definitely important is passing them. I don't use those classes in vet school, but there are some others that I do use, like genetics, biology, anatomy, animal science, animal behavior, psychology and social sciences (as we also have to deal with people). Hope that helps!

      @@isabellacardona4677 Sorry to jump-in out of the blue, but I'm (fingers crossed) going to St. Georges in January and just thought I should let you know St. George's, and I'm sure some other vet schools, offer programs longer than 4 years that sort of act as a bachelor-vet degree hybrid. I'm not from America so I can't say exactly what your options would be from the USA. However, I know if you hop onto St.Georges website they have the 7,6,5 and obviously 4-year vet programs with their various entry requirements listed. So if you aren't keen on a full 4-year bachelor's degree, you could probably qualify for one of those. You will likely still have to do the subjects you aren't so keen on regardless though, but I imagine St. George's has a more veterinary focused approach to them which would make them less boring for you?

      @@keeganmcgregor4698 That is true, there is pre vet programs and foundations programs, which means that they accept people from all kinds of levels of education so in theory you can come and spend more time on island to end up in vet school. Thanks for pointing that out :)

    I’m currently in high school and would love to become a veterinarian but I live in Toronto Canada and we have less than ten vet schools here. I’m worried it would be too competitive to apply and there’s only one school in my province. The second closest is in Quebec and I’m not too confident in my French skills lol. Should I try? • @AdriTheVet
      @AdriTheVet  4 года назад +1

      q t hi!! Shadowing means following someone around to learn about their job. You just ask a vet if you can shadow them and that’s it! There’s no set schedule usually but when I used to do this I would go one or two days a week and spend some time with the vet.

      If you're not in the US you can probably go straight into vet school after high school but that varies in every country so I would research the country of your choice to see. In the US you definitely do have to go to college before applying to Vet school.

    • @AdriTheVet
      @AdriTheVet  4 года назад

      If you’re not planing to study in the US then it’s very different. This applies to anyone applying to US vet schools, no matter where you’re from. Vet school is a doctorate, you earn a DVM, which is a doctorate in veterinary medicine.

    What do you mean by shadowing a vet?

    • @AdriTheVet
      @AdriTheVet  3 года назад

      Shadowing a vet means you spent the day with a veterinarian seeing what the job entails. You’re volunteering and the doctor let’s you join for you to see what a day in the life of a vet is really like.

      Hi Harry Tall ! The average GRE score to get into SGU is a 305. I don’t think there is a minimum since it all depends with the people you’re competing with.

    • @AdriTheVet
      @AdriTheVet  4 года назад +1

      Hi! So basically you have to go to university to complete some courses as requirements for vet school and then you can apply to a veterinary medicine program. I did a bachellors degree that made me complete my requirements (4 years) at FIU in Florida and then I did my veterinary degree at SGU in Grenada (3 years) and my clinical year (1 year) in Texas. But of course you could do any of these at any university that offers those programs. Does that make more sense?
