Most of the songs in Solar's Emotion series are very intimate that way, like she's singing just for you. The style and instrumentation is similar to Aretha Franklin in the early 70's on albums like Hey Now Hey (The Other Side of the Sky) and songs like That's the Way I Feel About Cha.

(Although I suppose you could say the iii chord at that point is a substitute for I, and then just say that Solar's note is 5, but that's dependent on a bit deeper harmonic analysis.)

Late to the commentary on this clip, but I keep coming back to it every now and then. Since the reactors were quite intreagued by the panning at the beginning and the end of Solar's version: this imitates a typical phenomenon of listening to music on a Walkman (see the connection? 🙂). Slightly misaligned tape heads and/or a slightly worn out tape would have a very similar effect (speaking from experience certainly dates me here..). Used nicely in conjunction with the music video and the nostalgic athmosphere. Very nice version by Solar, with thoughtful and respectful reactions --> one of my favorites on this channel!
