My music teacher used to show us this in the mid 2000s until we were considered middle school aged. She had us take a quiz based on the songs and matching them to the animal.
I just discovered this video. Thank you so much for having this here. I played viola in the orchestra. So fun to see this again. Haven't seen in it in years. I was looking for a recording of Carnival of the Animals to share with my piano student who is learning an arrangement of The Swan.
No way I can avoid sharing this with my parents. They loved Gary Burghoff's work as Radar O'Reilly on MASH, and they love this music anyway, so this will be a wonderful treat for them.
Love the little jokes like that, like quoting Mozart and Rossini in “Fossils”. After listening to The Tortoise, I often load the piece in Audacity and speed it up so my students can clearly hear the Can Can. Always good for a chuckle or two when they get the joke.
I to have a record that belonged to my Father with Noel Coward as the Narrator. Typical upper class British accent. The record has been converted to a high quality CD. Great Stuff old chap. Toodle Pip.

The audio is beautifully done--- recording in open air is hellish. EDIT Is it possible this was all recorded in a studio with green screens, and reenacted/synched during the open air sections? It is almost impossible to capture clarity and reverberation like this outdoors. Either way, it's a clever and engaging video. Congrats to all involved!
Thank you so much for posting this! I was part of the audience at the beginning of the video (I was 8) and it was so much fun to see it again. I got to show it to my elementary music class and they think I’m famous. LOL I remember Gary Burghoff being very cool. Such a great memory!
Anyone else ever slightly bothered that Ogden Nash didn’t realize that there are no brass instruments in this collection when he wrote the Finale poem? I guess it makes for a good teachable moment.
I know this movie, I got to citrus elementary I’m in 5th grade and today we watched this movie in music class really inspiring and classic 10/10 Love it!
When I was a kid my father had an LP of this with Noel Coward doing the narration of the Ogden Nash poems. I believe it may have been the first recording combining the poems with Saint-Saen's music. Anyway, no real offense to Gary Burghoff, but Coward was a much better narrator of these poems. For one thing he had a deeper, more melodious voice.
Oh, I can just imagine Coward reading this. Must have been great! But if this performance doesn't do it for you, you'll definitely want to steer clear of the Bugs Bunny/Daffy Duck rendition. ;-)
Who "bleeped" the poem by Ogden Nash in the "Wild Asses" movement??? Don't the folks on RUclips know that an Ass is a Wild Donkey? nothing profane about that unless you use it toward someone, I suppose they bleep the word "Bitch" which is the formal word for a female dog, The male is technically called a "Dog". The English language folks!!

Thank you for editing the "Donkey" song so that we as teachers don't have to worry about the mute button!!! :DDD
I love seeing how many people remember this from their music classes. You can tell how many of us were born in the 80’s lol.

The Tortoise musical joke always gets me. It's the famous Can Can tune from Orpheus in the Under World.
Love the little jokes like that, like quoting Mozart and Rossini in “Fossils”. After listening to The Tortoise, I often load the piece in Audacity and speed it up so my students can clearly hear the Can Can. Always good for a chuckle or two when they get the joke.
Yes bringing back memories
Substituting at an elementary school and the k-2 are listening to this on cd and playing along with various percussion instruments
Mr manning your music is so beautiful
Thank you for editing the Wild Donkey poem. I always had to remember to mute those two words.
Well this brings back my childhood...
I FINALLY FOUND THIS💜💜💜💜
amazing combination with the music, nature, children and of course the animals!
I m wondering how it could sound in open air.. They probably recorded it in a studio. I cant see any amplifying and speakers at all.
I watched baby genius animal adventure when I was a baby and I liked it! It’s so much fun :)
I love the music!😅😅😍😍😍😘😘
I was one of the winners of the swan animal art to music contest back in the school year of 2016-2017.

Lol I remember this is elementary school Benard school '01 😂😂😂 flashbacks
I wonder if the Swan number may have been Robyn Miller's inspiration for the Forechamber Theme from _Myst._
Thumbs up this comment if you also remember this from elementary school music class 😊

Can you uncensor the Wild Asses segment?

+Fr0ntR0wJ0e Thanks for the heads up.
Its 2020
As great as this is, I'm bummed the wild jackass verses had to be censored
Csn'y believe they censored the word asses.
The whole point of the pianist section is they are supposed to play badly. It's much funnier that way.
