Text Behind Moving Object | Adobe After Effects CC Tutorial

Learn how to place text behind a moving object, using masking, in Adobe After Effects CC. A similar approach can be made using Adobe Premiere Pro CC's opacity mask from "Effect Controls," however, I prefer using After Effects' masking tool as it is easier to use.

Question- could you use a null object to track the motion of the boat, then attach the mask to it? Then you wouldn't have to keyframe it. Wondering if that would work?

Nice video. Have you ever tried using the Space bar to toggle between your current selected tool and the hand tool? It great because when you release the Space bar it returns to the previous selected tool automatically.

I already had a mask using this tutorial, and I've been trying to add another one on the same layer but the mask wont work, even when clicking "Inverted" the mask just doesn't seem to work by any means, any tips would be appreciated!

Btw we can duplicate the boat layer and create a text layer between the duplicate and the original boat layer. And then we can just rotoscope the duplicate layer and it will be done. No animations needed

Thanks! What happens if the object I masked changes shape? For example, instead of a boat I'm masking a mountain, but this mountain moves because the clip was taken with a drone panning the camera.

Premiere Pro CC is like my hub for video. I use After Effects for effects mainly and that drag those comps into Premiere Pro to place within my final edit.

what about that section at the back of the boat where people are standing? can I place a second mask there and apply a color key onto the blue for the lettering to show behind them?

if the mask also contours the people in the boat, it's going to be very toilsome because people are constantly moving around. or maybe the boat goes by fast enough that nobody will notice it anyway, lol.

Yeah, I made a decision, that I didn’t find it was necessary to do that as it’s not that noticeable, but if you wanted to you could make a second mask, I did myself once but because the people moved so much it was almost an hour of fine tuning and not worth it for such a small demo clip.
