There's something about early 2000s anime style that lent itself pretty well with horror themes. Nowadays, that quality seems to be lacking in favor of a more slick visually appealing look. It could also be my nostalgia, though.
@@crazyfun95 In case of the old Higurashi the bad animation actually added to the horror imo, as it made all the characters look far more unhinged. I get what you mean with the 2000s artstyle though. I feel like the clunky nature of early digital animation kinda was a good fit with darker more edgy shows. Newer anime look kinda too artificial (like the characters are made out of plastic). The 2000s artstyle also looked kinda artificial, but it had much more similarities with the cel animated animation of the 90s imo, especially with the way backgrounds were drawn (in the way that they still looked like they were actual paintings on a cel, despite being digital) etc, which to me gives it this warm and familiar feeling, whereas most modern anime feel kinda ''cold'', though I feel like this has somewhat improved in recent years, with One Piece using a line filter in the Wano Arc, or the anime produced by Studio Mappa opting for a rougher artstyle for example.
@@thatguyontheinternet8320 Yeah, if the animation style looks too clean, it starts looking sterile, and that takes away any character. Personally, I think beauty is in the imperfections.
If they put more into making the facial expressions weird/unsettling in the new one it’d be fine imo, no need for the old artstyle (watch rena stabbing keiichi from the new one to see what I mean, facial expressions could’ve been more exciting)
@@Hitman2b ooooooohh you mean the character designer, no wonder everyone's cheeks in the 2020 look so chubby and shiny, its by the same artist that did the monogatari anime, i just noticed that now lol
I noticed that the remake is actually much more closer to the Visual novel, compared to the original anime, but who knows it's only just the first episode.
@@AsrielofRose yeah after a few episodes now I realize what they're going for, it's neither exactly a remake nor a sequel, it's basically a mix between the two and I honestly envy the newcomers because their going to have different experience than us.
@@kawaiichantheshipperqueen824 Yes, this one is a sequel but ppl that new to Higurashi can watch this like that's the first season without watching other higurashi series (they'll only get some spoilers).
I just finished watching this anime and at first I was so confused on what's going on and I'm about to stop watching it because I don't know what's going on but I continue watching it because I'm enjoying the killing part and then I understand everything at episode 14 or 15
The new ones off to a good start. I like how they introduced the characters better right from the get go. I liked the showing of the importance of the neck scratching, and I really like the new art style and the scenes showing off the town. I was preferring the new one up until the end where I feel the horror of describing the brutality of the crime was way more impactful in the old version. Also not a fan of showing Rika being supernatural that early. But maybe if I didn't know the story that would be different and maybe it'll grow to be something that makes the rest of the story flow better. But overall I'm really liking it so far.
@@tri99er_ haven't got around to watching it yet. But this is great to hear. I don't think brutality is be all end all, but I did get chills hearing the old anime frantically describe the murder and I was worried the horror might make a backseat. But this is great to hear. Thank you.
I agree to a certain extent, but a saw the comments in the 2006 version, smooth brains dropped because they couldn’t grasp that the loop resets after keichi dies, you can’t please low info casuals
2006 the animation takes on a more darker tone and feels like it is built for the vibe the new style is a lot more modern how they do the horror scenes is what matters though and I look forward to it
I didn't remember the final scene used to be more "dramatic" but comparing the two I actually like it better. While playing the og opening was a genius move and sent chills up my spine, the old scene with Keichi reading the gruesome details of the murder out loud added to his shocked expression makes the scene more unsettling. I also didn't know that Rena was smiling in the original, which imo also makes it more creepy
The drama of the last scene, with Keiichi going over the details of the murder, got moved to the first part of the second episode, so it wasn't excised entirely.
@@LupinaCatto when this video and comment were made we were all still under the impression this was a remake, they hadn't announced Gou was a sequel yet.
As a fan of the old anime and the VN, I am in love with the new remake so far. And I actually super appreciate that they added the Rika hints, because so many people dropped the first anime after only 2-3 arcs. They felt it was going nowhere and they couldn't grasp how there was a much larger mystery at hand. Also, as a mystery writer myself who's trying to get published, what I've learned from countless revisions is that the earlier you add in hints, the more you'll hook the audience. Hints don't diminish the suspense, it's the opposite way around. With early hints, the audience will start asking themselves "WHY is this happening?" instead of simply "WHAT is happening?" and pay much more attention to everything.
It’s sadly true but I remember when watching the old anime by the third arc I realize we were in a time loop and started to take note of what was the same and what was different. Which made the mystery more thrilling
I agree with Soda. I think while they definitely needed to drop hints they were a little heavy handed with it. I think the scenes with Rika acting mature were a good way at hinting. Characters having deja vu and stuff like that I think would work too. I remember being super confused with the original show because it was so secretive about what was happening but I think the scene in episode 2 was just too revealing it explained too much I feel.
Wow, as a fan of the original, the 2020 version is hella of an upgrade for me. The colors pop making the comedy parts vibrant (10:25), while the creepy parts use such deep color tones to set the mood (17:41). Some of the faces are more subtle, which I prefer in thrillers (13:29). I also like the updated character designs and the new added scenes. As someone who doesn't like rewatching stuff, these little things make it easier. I'm interested in how they will do the "faces" later on because it's one of the factors that sold me to the series originally.
I'm also rlly excited about the faces! It's definitely one of the most memorable things from the original, and I hope they don't tone it down On that note, I'm also hoping to see the dramatic pan ups/zooms to the face in those scenes. The camera movements from the remake are a lot less brusque but in the horror scenes I feel that the sudden close ups and sound effects made them much more unsettling xD
@@hibiscuspetals02 yeah, glad to see the characters again, and feeling proper bad for Rika. Just wished they would have put some effort in the horror parts, it all feels a bit mirai nikki-shocky. It's easy to dismiss the original because of its low budget and divisive art-style, but the overall scene direction is really strong, Chiaki Kon isn't bad and was doing something that's harder than it looks.
I also do, I feel like it's a bit less chibi-e if that makes sense? Though I'm not too bothered by the new one, as long as they keep the creepy faces as dramatic as the original
Me too! I know it wasn’t always perfectly polished but I felt that the imperfections added to the creepiness of the significant scenes! Interested to see where the new one will go but the Deen adaptation will always have a special place in my heart, one of the very first anime series I watched beginning to end and I recently bought the blu rays to watch it through the lockdown
In so many scenes I prefer the original. I like the original because there are no like "safe place". Even if they're doing a normal club activities there are still some creeps if you pay close attention. The new one kinda didn't blend well with the "horror". The horror mostly comes from sounds/effect sounds. Still prefer the original animation. Even without any sound effect. You can feel there is just something "wrong". But I really like the scratching neck details in the new one. Kinda makes the "... There is something wrong and I don't feel good about it" mood lol My only complain is maybe the new design chatacter is too shiny for me. And rika's hair lose all the uniqueness from the original
I'm only here because I like looking at the changes made and the things that remained similar. It's very fascinating. We can't really be certain yet until the new adaptation is finished anyway. But thank you for making this! But I actually kinda miss how "animated" the expressions of characters are back then. (from 9:14 onwards) Nowadays they strive for a more realistic approach, so you don't see characters making >3< faces, suddenly becoming more deformed, or being knocked/smacked that often. Those were pretty fun to watch.
@@LupinaCatto the first 3 arcs are obviously inspired in structure by the first 3 original arcs. A remake doesn't have to be the exact same story that is a remaster
Ok. Seeing that first scene with Keiichi killing Mion and Rena made me shiver. I don’t know if it was the blood or the sound effects, but I know the anime will probably work. I think I will faint during the nail scene... and some other things...
I like that you showed the different versions of the VN. OG sprites, mangagamer sprites, and console art with ADV mode. The one at 6:40 is the console one and what I'd recommend to anyone since it has full voice acting. It's available at 07th mod so you can patch it to the PC steam/mangagamer version.
Higurashi 2020 is actually kind of a sequel - the chapter they showed "Onidamashi-hen" is a new one (old one: Onikakushi-hen). WHich kind of shows stuff from end of season 2 and middle of season 1, so the comparison on the story arc alone I would say the old one has more mystery and suspense and the new one will probably be easier to understand.
@eYepatchZ yes. If tou go through episode two, you'll grab some insane spoilers of things that happen waaaaaayyy later on the classic anime. In my opinion, the classic is brilliant because of the drama, and the way the story is built, by going straight for the 2020 remake, you'll lose a big construction to that part of the anime really quick.
@eYepatchZ by the looks of it, the remake will be a sequence, not a real remake, so watching the old one is important for understanding and the good experience with the anime. If you never watched: there is higurashi, higurashi kai, and higurashi rei. The first one is pure drama and gore with few explanations and makes you feel it in your stomach, you thirsty for more lore, kai is based on resolving the last anime problems, more lore and deep meaning to everything, rei is more like a bonus, but you should still watch. The remake starts like the old one, but changes drastically in a blink of an eye, and feels like It will be easier to compreehend the story, but really compressing the old anime. I'm afraid it feels like they will rush everything.
@eYepatchZ that's sad, but the experience might not be ruined! It's a reason for things to happen in the old anime but it will still be new and nice. No prob. It was a pleasure to talk to you.
@eYepatchZ Sorry for the late reply, but as Pangua said I personally would suggest watching the old one first. the new one also did not spook me as much as the old style.
@eYepatchZ ok I wish you a lot of fun watching for the first time. KAI is the second season with a lot of the answer arcs. so around 48 or so episodes in total, the rest is tidbits or fanservice or alternate stories. :-) (EDIT: I think REI also had canon revelations that were important but KIRA is definetly fanservice) (EDIT2: there lies even a deeper mystery in the franchise as there are connections to Umineko no naku koro ni - But this should be enjoyed in VN form as I was informed )
I'm new to this anime and only have heard of people hyping over this having a re-made, so I gave it a try, I just wanted to say thank you for making this comparison! it made things so much easier for me rather than to go to 2 or 3 differents sites! this is really helpful, and I want to point out how cool you actually compare it with the light novel too and going into a pause to match the stuff that was going on on the screen, I'm not a really big fan of horror animes neither movies because I'm such a scaredy cat but I personally liked this! I hope the remake of this anime went well for the rest of the episodes and maybe I'll give a try to watch to old one too, again I just wanted to thank you for making the comparison dude!
In 2006 they were more expressive and makes a lot of more camera angles, in 2020 they make the charas more "moe" but less expressive, feels a bit rough
The scene where Rena says "I don't know" is better in the original imo because you don't see her face at all so there is no way for the audience to know what she's thinking, whereas in the 2020 version you get a glimpse of her face drawn with heavy shadows and with a serious expression, which lets the audience in on the fact that she knows more than she lets on, whereas you might just overlook the fact that she's acting suspiciously in the 2006 version in that moment.
Dang watching this comparison made me think that this new anime may be better not just by adapting off of the visual novel, but adding in new stuff and what not.
Alright if you guys are OG fans y'all know damn well that this isn't a mere "remake". We are to expect some crazy other timeline to go down. However I'm curious which timeline Rika is in now and how she got there.
But alas, the camera in the original appears to give more of an urgent feel at each big reveal, complete with an angle and/or pan typically described as unsettling to most viewers (especially those slanted close-ups). One could say that it's not very subtle, but for an anime with roughly four episodes per arc, it gets the job done right. You can really feel Keiichi's increased feelings of "something isn't right in this town" (in one episode). However, there are some fixes in the newer version that are much better for a longer term story arc. While the energy and contrast to fun versus creepy aren't as present, it definitely utilizes progression well for the sake of the longer story arc. It also gives credit where it is due (not showing the eyes and going for an off-putting close-up of Mion and Rena's mouths when they deny any suspicious happenings going on). The last scene definitely catches your attention, . . . but I personally believe that it distracts from the reveal of Rena (honestly, it kinda pushes things at you all at once). Rena walking and slightly smiling in the original is soooo much better, especially since viewers will automatically piece together that she's walking towards Keiichi as he's finding something that she and someone else had just denied adamantly in the episode.
They’re all good, but both the anime’s trim some of the fat off to tell a faster paced story. While the VN takes its time its just a matter of preference.
...no, no not at all. The anime revels in death while the VN makes you feel like shit witnessing these events. They're fundamentally different in tone. Also, literal key plot points are removed.
The post credit scene was really the only downside to this compared to the original. It was extremely unnecessary, other than that I prefer the new one so far. Especially after the opening scene.
Thank you!!! I feel like it diminishes what should be a very unexpected turn later on for no reason other than scoring nostalgia points from old viewers!
@Максим Бугаенко yea its apparently supposed to be a sequel for people who have already seen or played the original while acting as a reboot for people who haven't. I hope we get to see bernkastel later on!
Im sure you know this now but the original opening that became the ending theme and into the post credit with Rika was super super necessary. It is not made to be a comparison to original but showing that it is a sequel and a new route because we too are in a loop with Rika but very aware of all previous events.
I really do have a fetish for Watanabe's lips and nose artstyle. The first episode AND second episode were done amazingly, wondering what direction this "remake" will go towards...? Ryukishi is going to troll us so hard.
well i think the creepy emotions are better in the old version , at some point they look kawaii but when things happens they suddenly changes and the old version is perfectly showing this changes to us
The Deen version of the first scene is so much better in almost every aspect. First, the corpses are layed down on both sides of the Keiichi so it makes sense that he swings the bat in different directions so randomly and rhythmically which also caused breaking the lights and that in itself makes so much sense for why the lights are off and makes you feel the chaotic nature of the scene in general while in Passion's version his movement is a repeated very stiff and robotic hit in one direction and the lights are already off and even the sound is a downgrade imo. With that said I HATED the artistic choice to BUTCHER this scene and turn it from the emotional sad and existential thoughts rant in the version of the original vn to another shocking gore scene with no context that would show us why Keiichi is one of the best more fleshed out anime male protagonists ever.
The 2005 version actually placed more dread and this feeling that something isn’t right when there wasn’t enough evidence for me to actually say, “this isn’t right” without coming off like I am delusional myself. In fact I brushed my feelings off in the 2005 version, it was done so well. While with the 2020 version, it honestly scared me but it didn’t leave me feeling like I was expecting something but I shouldn’t be feeling that way because the evidence was clear as day to know that something isn’t right somewhat. It is very odd but I got to say. 2020 Higurashi succeeded more at scaring me and leaving me thinking like wtf. But the 2005 version did much better at toying with your emotions and making you incredibly paranoid. I honestly prefer Higurashi 2005 for the first Arc. Just the dread got me more and it was more memorable.
The proportions, lighting, colors, and animations are looking great so far! I just don't like how we don't get the same art-style with the same exaggerations in facial expressions as before. Nonetheless I'm super excited for this and how it's gonna go down.
Hey guys, I made another video for the second episode! it was completed 2 days ago but I had copyright issues with it, now everyone can watch it: ruclips.net/video/stOI7lK__64/видео.html EDIT: For those asking, watch first the old anime and the second season of it called kai, this one is a sequel and not a remake
I'm sure the new version will be great and everything but am I the only one who thinks the art style is kinda off? It's so shiny and clean and doesn't really fit the style of this anime as the original. Maybe I'll get used to it. Edit: I'm not saying it's bad. In fact it's really good. And bright. It's just not as fitting I don't think.
After watching this comparison I think I see why the 2006 version is better and it's the lighting in the 2020 version the scene gets dark when it wants to show a dark scene and gives it away too soon but in the 2006 version the lighting is just right to make you feel off but not alerted so when they drop that twist on you it catches you off guard
I havent read the visual novel but I will say the 2006 series blood was alot more on the realistic side. Especially with the scene of the pencil stabbing scene in the 2020 version. Too much blood for a character to have. More than 10 gallons of blood in the 2020 version. 2006 has a lot of charm no matter the situations. 2020 version won't really give much of the nostalgia that everyone is used to with 2006 Higurashi. So long story short, 2006 Higurashi wins in my opinion.
I find the slapsticks and over-dramatic movements of DEEN (2006) to make the scene even more mood-swing when it just shifted tone. One of the thing I'm not much of a fan of right now is how the 2020 ver. is really making a more eerie and suspense moments actually look villainous. For example, see the final scene when it just shows Rena looking grim with a cleaver (2020) vs. just walking and smiling nonchalantly like nothing is wrong (2006). You can feel that something is off in the 2006 one and the creepiness intensified (at least in my opinion) when she's smiling. TL;DR - To use Hitchcock's expression (imagine there's a bomb underneath the table and viewers know it but the characters don't), 2020 feels like you were already given a sneak-peak of the bomb while 2006 feels like you were told that something bad is happening but you weren't told that it's a bomb.
i don't really care if they remake higurashi as this version because the older is masterpiece and i already knew the secret of this shit. I just want them to remake Umineko as it's really disappointing than the manga.
So it seems there prolonging the 2020 version with the sub plots that were never answered in the 2006 one, thank life I finally know that Rena got her maskot thing
We only saw a SINGLE episode so How can we know ? I personally mostly liked the first episode of the new season (the old op at the end was EPIC) But I really hate that anime original Rika scene after the credits. And Also We still do not know How much this remake will adapt. If they want to adapt the story They have to make +40 episodes Which I HIGHLY DOUBT They will even in seperate seasons
Yeah, I enjoyed the first episode a lot and a I think a lot of the stuff there was better in the remake, the chibi and exaggerated expresions from the old anime didn't aged well. I can agree on the Rika part, it was really unnecessary, maybe for fans could be cool because we know her story, but for newcomers is a bad thing for the spoiler
I guess I have to wait and see when stuff gets a bit more intense but so far I don't have much hope for the 2020 versions art style, it doesn't really have the same creepy vibes as the 2006 has
No, this new art style just ain't right. I watched the old and it was one of the best horror anime I've ever watched. I really get the goose bumps if I only think about this anime now. But the new art style is not suitable for such a brutal anime. You could compare this situation with Higshool DxD and the newest season. Maybe some consider it as a different situation, because it was a continuing and not a remake. There will be people saying they dont have problems watching it with that art style, but I really don't like it. It would just destroy my respect for this anime like with Highshool DxD.
oh wow the detail of rena being late and leaving the club early is interesting now considering what happened at the end of this arc and her photo in the ED
I've seen a few things saying that since the studio that made the 2006 version was new, the art wasn't 'up to standard' but honestly I just think it gave itself a unique image and amazing atmosphere After watching the show, even just seeing the artstyle is enough to see your skin crawl
2006 for me. There’s just something about modern anime nowadays that lack any charm or personality. There’s a bit to much shading, and it makes the characters look like plastic.
I don't care what anybody has to say, I love these vibrant colors in this new version. I watched this as a kid and I absolutely adore the colors in this one
The door scene in the trailer gave me actual chills. I wanna see how they do the "faces" later on. And that tease for rika might be interesting, this isn't a remake after all ;)
Its been confirmed that this is a remake of either Rei (3rd season) or a season 4, since it is now confirmed to be called Gou. I am assuming this is actually S4, and they mislead people intentionally, from what I have been able to understand. I just figured I would let others know, so that newcomers don't think this is a remake and that they can watch it (and understand it) without seeing the first 3 seasons. I am trying to be helpful- so hopefully people won't take my comments wrongly and think I am trying to tell them what to do. I would not recomend watching this unless you have seen the first season, Kai and Rei, though.
To clarify to any1 wondering the new Higurashi is technically a sequel. With that being said Rika as of right now is experiencing the same arcs with the added bonus of already experiencing it and overcoming it. I think the whole point is to introduce something fresh to returning fans while still being faithful to the original.
Original: Better dub, better character desing(not by much),better atmosphere(not by much too), no censure Remake: Better history and pacing(until now at least), better animation(not by much), better direction(a little) Both: They have a great soundtrack and know how to use it, and the slice of life part is good. Despite the old anime begin better in some ways, the remake show a lot of potential to be a great anime. If they keep the way they're handling the changes until the end we could expect a better anime overall even if it's lack in some ways. Anyway I'm getting tense especially after the last episode since and now I really don't know what will come. Personally I will wait another arch to say what version really is my favorite.
About the censure part, the old anime was also censured when it was airing on tv and people say the censorship was worse. What you can find on netflix and other illegal anime websites is the DVD/bluray version which is uncensored, we have to wait for the bluray to get higurashi gou uncensored
the old and gritty look of 2006 higurashi just matches the atmosphere perfectly. the washed out colors and obscure facial expressions help you feel like you’re falling victim to the syndrome yourself as the viewer. i feel like gou and sotsu was too saturated and always used a comically large amount of blood for their scenes to the point where it ruins your immersion. despite it being extremely outdated art wise and leaving out several important details to arcs, 2006 higurashi takes the cake for me
@@darkeralchemist1 It's a common thing in animes to show something with less dialogue because the episode is ending and to later show the same scene at the start of the next episode but with more detail, they can make Keiichi read it more before Rena arrives. Of course there's a chance that doesn't happen though
At the picnic you can see they use the cartoony actions more sparingly, which is a good idea and keeps it from becoming too overbearing and more effective when it *is* used!
The first scene in the original was so much more tense and dynamic and so so desperate. I think it expressed Keiichi's hysterical state amazingly. The new one is mediocre in comparison
Definitely a good idea not to over-use that shaded hidden face they kept using in the old one. It makes things more nuanced (thus more creepy) and paints the characters’ odd behavior way better.
Its too soon to say which one is better but if you want to ask which one has best episode 1 then i’d say Deen’s. Deen’s episode 1 introduce the world more detail through Keiichi narration (like what is Hinamizawa or the school system, why we have Mion and Satoko in the same class). Passion’s episode 1 introduce the whole cast better, make their interactions more clear (like Satoko and Rika). They hinted Rika might be the important character in story in the earlier which is good because Deen version made me give no fuck about her until Kai. Deen exceeds at horror and memable faces (Meakashi arc). Passion might not beat Deen at horror because they are too shiny and cutesy which is not the end the world (The heart of the novel is not all about horror anyway). Passion need to do what Deen cant. For starter, i want them adapt Rika question arc better than Deen, that alone is amazing to me.
Oh my gosh, I so agree with your point. Before the new episode even came out, people were already bashing the trailer. That seriously tugged on me that no one seemed to be willing to even give Passione a chance. :(
“That kindness made me happy. That adorable smile brought me joy. I liked petting your head. I loved how demure you were. Perhaps...I really did... ......love you.” I will never forget these lines, the two adaptations doesn’t show it make me kinda pissed.
You also notice that when it comes to the VN's humor, the old anime had a better physical projection of the comedy while the new one feels stiff, which is a shame because this is the time when the characters have to be endearing to you so that when the characters have their horrific reveals it hits you harder. Although I have to admit the "I don't know" scenes in the new anime feel and look scarier than the old ones. But we'll wait and see. Ps not gonna lie that new scene in the end sent chills down my spine.

I agree, the animation is objectively worse, but it’s imperfections makes it creepier.
I noticed that the remake is actually much more closer to the Visual novel, compared to the original anime, but who knows it's only just the first episode.
Ironically this is actually a sequel than a remake.
@@AsrielofRose yeah after a few episodes now I realize what they're going for, it's neither exactly a remake nor a sequel, it's basically a mix between the two and I honestly envy the newcomers because their going to have different experience than us.

Thank you.

Whyy bernkanstel can you explain to me?

Same here, i was scared at first but I think they did a really good job with the first episode
I'm also rlly excited about the faces! It's definitely one of the most memorable things from the original, and I hope they don't tone it down
On that note, I'm also hoping to see the dramatic pan ups/zooms to the face in those scenes. The camera movements from the remake are a lot less brusque but in the horror scenes I feel that the sudden close ups and sound effects made them much more unsettling xD
@@hibiscuspetals02 oh it's kinda sad how they really didn't deliver on that, especially in scenes like Shions freakout in the classroom
@@gothicanimeangel96 yeah, it's a shame! But despite that I'm quite liking the anime so far, though most of the scenes weren't rlly scary at all
@@hibiscuspetals02 yeah, glad to see the characters again, and feeling proper bad for Rika. Just wished they would have put some effort in the horror parts, it all feels a bit mirai nikki-shocky. It's easy to dismiss the original because of its low budget and divisive art-style, but the overall scene direction is really strong, Chiaki Kon isn't bad and was doing something that's harder than it looks.
this is such a well done video, hope you do it for future episodes if you can!
Thanks! I'll try releasing them earlier next time
Say what you want but i prefer original art style
I also do, I feel like it's a bit less chibi-e if that makes sense? Though I'm not too bothered by the new one, as long as they keep the creepy faces as dramatic as the original

Me too! I know it wasn’t always perfectly polished but I felt that the imperfections added to the creepiness of the significant scenes! Interested to see where the new one will go but the Deen adaptation will always have a special place in my heart, one of the very first anime series I watched beginning to end and I recently bought the blu rays to watch it through the lockdown
yeah they took out the funny faces and the school intro pretty much
i love the new design, the old one sucked af imo
In so many scenes I prefer the original. I like the original because there are no like "safe place". Even if they're doing a normal club activities there are still some creeps if you pay close attention. The new one kinda didn't blend well with the "horror". The horror mostly comes from sounds/effect sounds.
Still prefer the original animation. Even without any sound effect. You can feel there is just something "wrong". But I really like the scratching neck details in the new one. Kinda makes the "... There is something wrong and I don't feel good about it" mood lol
My only complain is maybe the new design chatacter is too shiny for me.

(EDIT: I think REI also had canon revelations that were important but KIRA is definetly fanservice)
(EDIT2: there lies even a deeper mystery in the franchise as there are connections to Umineko no naku koro ni - But this should be enjoyed in VN form as I was informed )
Gah, the camera pans and angles along with the music and sound effects are utilized so well in both versions.
Yeah it's true, both of them do things good in their own way
...no, no not at all. The anime revels in death while the VN makes you feel like shit witnessing these events. They're fundamentally different in tone. Also, literal key plot points are removed.
Texts are unlimited but screentimes are restrained. It’s rare to see a 30 or 40 episode anime nowadays.
I see, you’re a person of culture as well. Katawa Shoujo is a nice VN
I couldn’t be the only one that when I saw this anime being brought back my jaw dropped I was so excited
@Максим Бугаенко not yet. I will here in a second 👀
if you watched episode 2 youll find out that this is a sequel not a remake
Nicely done comparison! I hope you do more of these for the next episodes :)
well i think the creepy emotions are better in the old version , at some point they look kawaii but when things happens they suddenly changes and the old version is perfectly showing this changes to us
Thank you so much for making this!!!
Thanks for watching!
I would prefer if they spent more time in the comedy bits though I understand budget and time are factors.
They added more details which is sad. The plot twist was also provided early in the 2nd episode unlike 2006 version.

@@jandr-fy6sz The old anime and its second season because this is a sequel
I'm sure the new version will be great and everything but am I the only one who thinks the art style is kinda off? It's so shiny and clean and doesn't really fit the style of this anime as the original. Maybe I'll get used to it.
Edit: I'm not saying it's bad. In fact it's really good. And bright. It's just not as fitting I don't think.
It's a gatari-esque style and it doesn't fit to higurashi series.
In the first scene of the 2020 version, I loved the detail of the scratches on the neck.
I see Mion is still strapped

Should had just had Rika standing there and maybe not pan into her face or give her crazy eyes
In an interview, they did say the series will be long if I’m not mistaken
2006 has more chilling eerie moments with Rena while 2020 is lack of chilling aspect but the background color improve a lot.
I've seen a few things saying that since the studio that made the 2006 version was new, the art wasn't 'up to standard' but honestly I just think it gave itself a unique image and amazing atmosphere
After watching the show, even just seeing the artstyle is enough to see your skin crawl
2006 for me.
There’s just something about modern anime nowadays that lack any charm or personality. There’s a bit to much shading, and it makes the characters look like plastic.
also I miss the old voice actors
I don't care what anybody has to say, I love these vibrant colors in this new version. I watched this as a kid and I absolutely adore the colors in this one

I fell the old version more shounen and a classic anime, the new version its basically a good animation
I prefer the 2006 version with it's cinematic qualities more than the 2020 version
Original:
Better dub, better character desing(not by much),better atmosphere(not by much too), no censure
Remake:
Better history and pacing(until now at least), better animation(not by much), better direction(a little)
Both:
They have a great soundtrack and know how to use it, and the slice of life part is good.
Good Job thank you for doing this :)
great work hope u keep it up
the old and gritty look of 2006 higurashi just matches the atmosphere perfectly. the washed out colors and obscure facial expressions help you feel like you’re falling victim to the syndrome yourself as the viewer. i feel like gou and sotsu was too saturated and always used a comically large amount of blood for their scenes to the point where it ruins your immersion. despite it being extremely outdated art wise and leaving out several important details to arcs, 2006 higurashi takes the cake for me
I like how keichis swings are slower and the new camera angle showing lifeless body. Something about it that makes this scene more dreary

I like the Original Anime from 2006 more from the First Episode.

True. The first scene with the bat seems lacking compared to the original.
WOW I CAN SEE THE COMPARISON BETWEEN THE OLD AND NEW
Good job man keep it upp🔥🔥
I'M MORE AMAZED BY HOW CLOSE BOTH VOICES SOUND THE SAME!!
cant compare the two because the current season isnt done yet
You make a whole video on this, then we find out that it's actually a sequel.
Blue Blur The artstyle can make people a bit skeptical. ;) How could they make my boi Tomitake look older than Oishi? XD
@@MrAnimeLover1 Eh. I'm an optimistic kinda of guy so I don't much care about that. Oishi still looks old to me.
::watched up to 13 mins::
What a wholesome slice of life anime.
I can say I was thoroughly entertained attempting to read all 3 panels at the same time as a seasoned sub anime watcher.
I hope u will see the first 4 eps(or all of them) before comment anything about this work
“That kindness made me happy.
That adorable smile brought me joy.
I liked petting your head.
I loved how demure you were.
Perhaps...I really did...
......love you.”
I will never forget these lines, the two adaptations doesn’t show it make me kinda pissed.
