Shortly after he beat Chris there was a big crowd in a semi-circle around Steve out the back of Dicey Reilly's on Harcourt st. Everyone was just staring at him. I walked up to him, stuck my hand out and said "Steve Collins, champion of the world, congratulations." He said "Thanks Bud, appreciate it." The precursor to McGregor's self-efficacy. Brilliant. Hell of a fighter Collins what a heart , love Eubanks for theatre but with Collins n Galzaghe n if fought Benn on Gerrard night been beat but 2nd is silver so fairplay
Eubank won this fight. The referee made a massive error in round two which ultimately changed the scoring, and give Collins the win, when really if the knockdown had been rightfully counted, Eubank would have won a split decision. A massive refereeing blunder give a false result.
@strawdog *80* I'm talking about how the fight was incorrectly scored, which altered the result of the fight. Why was that knockdown in round 2 not counted?
@strawdog *80* All 3 judges gave it to Collins 116-114, 115-111 and 114-113. However, Eubank clearly knocked Collins down in round 2 which would have been his round 10-8 but the referee did not aknowledge it, if he did then Eubank would have got a split decision.
Roy "juice" Jones did duck Collins. That dude was a cheat with a well picked opponent list. Even robbed a belt from Dariusz Michalczewski due to sone corrupt moves then wouldn't give Dariusz a fight.
Collins didn't win it. Eubank gave it away. Most all Collins punches missed. Eubank made him look sloppy and slow. Everytime Collins took a step forward or threw the crowd went crazy but he was missing. I don't understand Eubank. He had the man tired and hurt but chose to showboat and posture instead of going for the finish.
Collins at the time in very good middleweight division avoided nobody . He fought them all Eubanks Benn he beat em all . Would like.to have calzaghe n Collins when Collins at his best . Because of different eras calzaghe beat Collins when he was way past his best . But Collins went to war with all the best in his prime and come out on top
@Ian Knight Great post my friend and you are right about Mc Callum, an absolute Legend who would have mangled Benn and Eubank back in the early 90s if they had the balls to fight him. At least Watson and Collins had balls and fought him with Stevo giving him trouble only losing on pts. I don't agree with you about Hagler ducking him as he was operating at 154 up to Hagler's last fight in early 87 but SRL definitely avoided him like the plague along with lots of others. I regard him as the 3rd best Middleweight of the last 50 years, behind Carlos Monzon, 2nd and the Marvelous 1, Hagler no 1.
Just watching the slow motion replays at times a lot of Collins punches missed, might have been counted as scoring punches because a lot of them were very close to being scoring punches but not quite when you see the slow motion, lot of crowd noise when he was missing that might have swayed the judges. I suppose hard to see at normal speed for the judges ringside. Eubank made him miss a lot. Probably the same for both I suppose.
Great to see Stevo get his just rewards in this fight and as a fellow Dub and Collins fan I seen him fight on lots of occasions and saw him beat Eubank in the 2nd encounter in Pairc Ui Caoimh. Gary Mason was very honest with his assessment of the fight and said Steve was a worthy winner and although he was the 1st man to beat Eubank officially, not the 1st to beat him unofficially as Watson, Benn and Ray Close, 2 times were ripped off imo big time.
You can say what you want about Eubank but remember no one ever knocked him out or TKO'd him. The 2nd Watson fight, tragic as it was, showed how Eu was capable of coming back from the brink. And Eu also showed a sensitive human side after that fight by vowing never to to knock opponents out again but rather just win on points.
@@nicky29031977 I get what you mean 100% and agree with a lot of that, but Eubank promised to KO Collins in the return, and threw lots of upper-cuts, like the 1 that ended the Watson fight, and still no win, and he tried his best but to no avail, he was beaten by the better man, that's just the way it is.

It's almost like a fencing match. Especially in the early rounds, lots of feinting, micromovements and misdirection followed by a lunging combination attack which the defender tries to defend and counter, and after that sequence they both reset to distance and do it again. It's like they came to an unspoken agreement that they were going to fight each other in that rhythm. I'd heard about this match but never saw either of these fighters and this wasn't what I was expecting at all. Entertaining but sort of a strange fight.
CLEARLY WON THAT FIGHT....YOU SHOULD HAVE GONE TO SPECKSAVERS...DEFINITELY....HOLY SHIT...WHAT DID YOU SEE IN THE SECOND FIGHT...The same...end of STORY dumbass

BTW,, if you get a chance, check out Lloyd Honeyghan, former World WW Champion in the 80s, he was good to watch and also Undisputed, keep well and enjoy.
@Brendan W He could've in this fight but he relaxed in the 10th round rather than finishing Collins off. Eubank thought Collins was going to be as easy as Watson or Benn but that wasn't the case. In the second fight Collins was much more wiser and didn't fall into the same trap of getting hit with Eubanks famous right hook which nearly cost him the first fight.
Eubank was robbed, round 2 should of been 10-8, clear knockdown, the refs a idiot. This would have given Eubank a split decision or draw - No one can argue with this.
Collins gets criticised for beating past their best Eubanks/Benn but I got him beating them both at any stage. Eubank not much passed his best here and nothing in Benn suggests he could blow granite chinned Collins away.

So many punched thrown by Collins that missed the target.
Name of Steve Collins walkout music? I know it is from some Rocky movie but I wanna know exact song name.
What a fight, two warriors going full pelt.
But you can’t argue with Eubank being the boxer and Collins the brawler.
Stlyles make fights and this was a good match up!
Eubank had something the others didn’t.
Not as simple as that in my opinion. Collins could box, and Eubank could brawl.
28.18 - no knockdown? A clear knockdown
A clear knockdown?
I certainly wouldn't go that far.
@@ppuh6tfrz646 he hit him and it temporarily made him lose his balance for a second and his glove touched the canvas, he went down on the end of a shot, that's a knockdown
@@Marvindorfler1 I disagree. The shot went round the back of Collins' neck.
I think the ref got it right.
P.S. Midnight Run is a great film.
@@ppuh6tfrz646 fair enough, I would have given him it. Classic under appreciated movie 🎥👌
@@Marvindorfler1 I don't know if you're from the UK but if you are, it's on Film4 right now!
Hell of a fighter Collins what a heart , love Eubanks for theatre but with Collins n Galzaghe n if fought Benn on Gerrard night been beat but 2nd is silver so fairplay
Say what you want about eubank he's a funny man..steve you legend
The way he walks and goes to his corner 😁🤣
Eubank won this fight. The referee made a massive error in round two which ultimately changed the scoring, and give Collins the win, when really if the knockdown had been rightfully counted, Eubank would have won a split decision. A massive refereeing blunder give a false result.
So true. The judges had it 1 point to collins. That knockdown makes it a draw or eubank win
@@thomaspollock9941 the way the cards were scored, Eubank would have got a split decision win.
100% Knockdown
@strawdog *80* I'm talking about how the fight was incorrectly scored, which altered the result of the fight. Why was that knockdown in round 2 not counted?
@strawdog *80* All 3 judges gave it to Collins 116-114, 115-111 and 114-113.
However, Eubank clearly knocked Collins down in round 2 which would have been his round 10-8 but the referee did not aknowledge it, if he did then Eubank would have got a split decision.
Why didn’t he fight Calzaghe then? Ok to call Roy Jones a coward (not to his face of course) but he wouldn’t fight a young up and coming champion?
Roy "juice" Jones did duck Collins. That dude was a cheat with a well picked opponent list. Even robbed a belt from Dariusz Michalczewski due to sone corrupt moves then wouldn't give Dariusz a fight.
@@slickboxingidentityveritas1932 100%.
Proud irishman
To be no more, Irish men lost their balls
Collins didn't win it. Eubank gave it away. Most all Collins punches missed. Eubank made him look sloppy and slow. Everytime Collins took a step forward or threw the crowd went crazy but he was missing. I don't understand Eubank. He had the man tired and hurt but chose to showboat and posture instead of going for the finish.
I agree with you. Eubank appeared the stronger and more technical boxer whereas Collins was rugged and tough but sloppy.
Clever man Collins got out after making the £. (Eubank showman was also Hypnotic don't be fooled!)
Eubank was passed his sell by date, he had been in a lot of wars and just wasn’t the same at this stage of his career.
Wasn't he younger than Collins I think it was more Collins was a late devlaper
You could tell chris eubank was beaten even before he went in to the ring.good fight doh
Very strange interview with him on the morning of the fight.
@Ian Knight Didn't Collins fight McCallum and lose by KO?
@Ian Knight that's right, Ian. One of the commentators mentioned it after I'd posted my comment.
Very tough man that Collins.
I regard him as the 3rd best Middleweight of the last 50 years, behind Carlos Monzon, 2nd and the Marvelous 1, Hagler no 1.
eubank threw that upper beautifully
round 3 ?? was a beauty
Both of them are all over the place, it's hard to pick a winner in this fight.
No one going to mention that long count at 58:00 no? Ref didn't even try to hide the fact he was giving him extra time to get up
Great to see Stevo get his just rewards in this fight and as a fellow Dub and Collins fan I seen him fight on lots of occasions and saw him beat Eubank in the 2nd encounter in Pairc Ui Caoimh.
@@francishegarty8087 Eubank was also passed his prime when he fought SC on both occasions while SC was in his prime. A pity Collins never came up against Calzaghe! Now that would have been a tremendous fight!
@@nicky29031977 I've heard that passed his prime nonsense ,bla bla before ,lots of times, I was at the return fight, in the first fight, Eubank 28,unbeaten V Collins, 30, and well beaten, its 25 years since them scraps and Eubank still can't accept that Fact that Collins was the better man, Nor has a huge majority of his fans. Go and look into Eubanks recent admissions and its not something new to me, he has said he was quite happy to stay in his ' WBO World, picking up his X Salary from ITV and SKY regardless of his opposition , be he be an A,B or C fighter, afterall, why fight a Class A as opposed to a Class B fighter, for the same money?, would you? He got found out, I met some of his fans who were staying in the same B+B as us, they were sound, had no excuses and there was no drink talk, mention of religion, politics,Irish v English rivalry or anything like that, just genuine fight fan stuff and they had no excuses.
@@francishegarty8087 Eubank took the piss out of SC in the 10th round after hitting him with that right hook when really he should have followed through and finished him off immediately.
How shit was Steve Collins though 🤣
collins didnt win this fight.. 3 legit knockdowns only 1 scored.. 10 8 107 rounds clearly make eubank winner.. collins did not win 9 rounds
Collins won both fights before he went in ring totally destroyed Eubank mentally
Shut the fuck up collins bet the best of british fighter.tge judges gave it to collins not eubank. So it will go down in history and that's all that matters.and he didnt just beat eubank twice.he beat ben aswell.up the irish
This the dude that want it with Prime Roy Jones? Easy work.
Eubank fought many corner boys. Made him look better than he was.
Good man Stevo it makes me proud to be Irish 🍀
Proud be thick?!!!...takes all sorts....
that was a knockdown end of round 10
For sure. And the one in round 2.
You wouldn’t go half’s on a gram with Eubank 👃
Quality lol😂
🙄
Looks like the back of a F-15
Wouldn't go halves on a b@stard with him.
Awesome
What ? Steve Collins annihilation of the show man,ya want him to fight 20+ year olds ? Greatest ever irish fighter underrated
Why no knockdown in 2?
I'd love to see Froch vs Collins
Froch v Benn would have been spectacular.
Frock would have lost twice
Eubank clearly won this fight and got robbed.
CLEARLY WON THAT FIGHT....YOU SHOULD HAVE GONE TO SPECKSAVERS...DEFINITELY....HOLY SHIT...WHAT DID YOU SEE IN THE SECOND FIGHT...The same...end of STORY dumbass
Good. After what he did to Dan Schommer he deserved it.
Lol. Give your mum her phone back.
52:09 Eubank Knocked Down
57:57 Collins Knocked Down
If Eubanks had his killer instinct he would’ve finished collins.
Agreed. He was the better boxer.
To say collins had a chance to beat a prime jones is ludacris cmon no hate on collins what soever hes a legend but prime roy cmon
Jones was caught and was a known juicing cheat. Prime Jones would've been mauled by all natural Collins
@@slickboxingidentityveritas1932 😂😂😂
Eubank took the piss out of SC in the 10th round after hitting him with that right hook when really he should have followed through and finished him off immediately.
In the second fight Collins was much more wiser and didn't fall into the same trap of getting hit with Eubanks famous right hook which nearly cost him the first fight.
loved to hate eubank ....but always had respect for him
Celtic warrior was very underated but he was tough as nailz
Unbelievably fit very good defensively but he did lack the killer edge
Stevo ☘️ 🥊
Eubank was robbed, round 2 should of been 10-8, clear knockdown, the refs a idiot. This would have given Eubank a split decision or draw - No one can argue with this.
And two knock-downs one heavy in 10!
big collins fan but eubank won this fight and ref robbed him of a knockdown aswell! defo a hometown decision
Ya ya...same old BULLSHIT...and for the second fight...what is your excuse for that....suffer on dumb FOOL
Got that right cat man.
Collins bit of a wild swinger
He got in Chris's head with the hypnosis 😅
A hypnotist in his corner?? Fucking weird that!
A draw was deserved by both parties it was not that far apart.
Was Collins really a composer?
Both fights were a joke. They were a fix.
@strawdog *80* Indeed, no fool like an old fool.
Collins gets criticised for beating past their best Eubanks/Benn but I got him beating them both at any stage. Eubank not much passed his best here and nothing in Benn suggests he could blow granite chinned Collins away.
Except Eubank knocking his down twice maybe? Not a granite chin, a good chin.
Loved Collins...ducked Calzaghe though
i thought he had head problems and so he retired
Calzaghe would have absolutely embarrassed Collins if they had fought.
@@KJJ8518 idk about that...I think Calzaghe would've won but would've went thru a war
It’s a well knowen fact he ducked calzaghe
Other way around, Calzhage wanted none of the guy who took Eubank's unbeaten record.
Collins completely got in Eubank head sitting there he d lost before throwing a punch 😂
2nd round knockdown not being counted was a joke, caught him square and put him over. liberty
Collins won the mental battle
Won the physical battle as well.
Eubank defo won this. Hometown decision.
Haha..your just like the rest of the Dopey bunch that are STILL sick because COLLINS beat Eubank...oh by the way not once..but TWICE....you must be really sick...but you deserve it Dopey

WBO in 90 s equivalents IBO now 🥊🥊🥊🤣🤣🤣
Don't know what these commentators were watching, fight wasn't even close.
Collins Rounds: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9
Eubanks Rounds: 10, 11, 12
Wasn't even remotely close. Collins totally outworked and outlanded Eubanks for most of the fight. Eubanks didn't leave his hands go till the 10th.
Eubank should of had Collins after he knocked him down & caught him again when Steve stood up after the count, But Eubank just postured & stood off him, ..
He should of nailed Collins, anyway, Shudda ,Cuddda, Wudda 😅😊
