The volcanic ash will contain a LOT of nutrients that plants will thrive on, that is why so many people settle near Volcanos because of the fertile nutrient rich soil
It TAKES THOUSANDS OF YEARS! The area of La Palma with volcanic Lava from 300 YEARS AGO STILL HAS LITTLE TO NO VEGETATION! It takes thousands of years for it to become nutrient rich Soil!!!

Look at the Crators of the Moon in USA or barren lava flows in Iceland (Gutn Tog channel). The banana plantations were created with thousands of tonnes of topsoil imported onto the island. You are thinking of Potash, which is wood ash, not volcanic ash.
