I agree with you about the deterrent situation, it's lazy and it doesn't work. Right now most rapes are unreported and nearly 70% of rape victims drop out of investigations in England and Wales. So maybe they should start with looking at why that's happening.
You say this yet it's reported that a huge number of people believe in the government's Rwanda policy for immigration. The theory behind this policy is that potential immigrants will decide not to travel to the UK because there's a chance they'll get shipped to Rwanda instead. Absolute legend. We need more Hislops in the world challenging the total dishonesty in politics
Every time Priti Patel says something more of my braincells die of cringe
Calling out the Crooks of Greed Britain, keep up the good work Mr H
Foodbanks 2024..... one richest country in the world. Not a civil society in the UK... descrace
Thank God for Ian. I know from my own experience how corrupt the court system is. I thought it was just Boston Lincoln court. We were bought up being told we had the best justice system in the world. It became a massive shock to find out how corrupt the legal system is. I find it very strange when a CE of a company can llie through his teeth but cant be bought to justice
I don't want to think of a world without an Ian Hislop.
Just dont go up against Hislop. he will wipe the floor with you.
Why I love Ian Hislop so much. It doesn't matter from which political party the politician comes from. He will call out their BS on air.
He doesn't really, he is very anti-conservative, and very establishment.
Why would anyone believe anything that the Metropolitan Police says?
He is a national treasure. Thank you Ian and your people for shedding light into the dark corners of government.
Integrity is such a rare commodity. And with humour too.
The day Ian Hislop retires is a bad bad day for this country. He's served this country via the Private Eye and have I got news for you for decades, longer than most MP's work for, and he's still going.
Fault of Government. Who else is in charge?
No Tory must ever be anything but unhappy to be scheduled on the other side of Hislop on TV.
Superb stuff from Ian.
Truth hurts many of those in power, but it needs saying and few say it as well as him.
Private Eye was onto this years ago.
Should be Knighted for Services to Truth.
Ian hislop should be knighted for his services to journalism and integrity.
What I admire most is that Ian has no agenda. He just tells it like it is, and treats all politicians with equal contempt !
It's not because they are Tories, Ian does this where and when justified, regardless of the party or the position they hold.
Can you imagine if all journalists were like him?
Journalists used to be.
He ought to be in parliament instead of shouting from the sidelines.
Why cant we have Ian Hislop as priminister.
Because he'd destroy the UK , he's up his own lefty arse
Because we don't have another Ian Hislop.to call him.out when needed. 😂
Because he knows all too well the job will destroy him.
There is some intelligent discourse left in this Country and it is coming from Ian Hislop.
Very intelligent chap. Id love to meet him just so he can explain politics to me, cos I struggle.
So do alot of other people.
This is how we got this bunch of shitweasels in government in the first place.
We all struggle with politics. This Govt want us to struggle.🤣
Surprise surprise Priti Patel wants the power to decree on executions 😂
I hope Ian reads these comments and knows how much we respect his opinion. Wish there were more people like him.
Adore this man! His words are absolute fire.
It's a shame that 'journalists' these days are afraid to ask the tough questions or to think for themselves. Ian's a shining example of actually listening to what's being said and forming a constructive opinion on that.
You see the (lack of) thought process going through younger journalists' heads when someone says anything, they barely acknowledge what has been said, even if it's something worth pushing further on, they're only interested in reading through their pre-determined questions and getting out of there.
Be more like Ian, please
Ian Hislop should run the country . A man of actual integrity and good character
Ian is a national hero, deep admiration for his tenacity and honour in consistently challenging the injustice and deception that has taken hold in our governments, regardless of political persuasion. On the days I feel ashamed and depressed to be British, Ian always restores my faith
Would love Ian to have his own political show.
Nobody would go on.
He probably wouldn't do it but he'd be ace as the top political interviewer on Newsnight. He'd make Paxman look like a teddy bear
It's concerning that the only effective opposition in this country comes from a satirical newspaper (private eye) and a fictional news correspondent ( Jonathan pie)
He has , its a free platform provided by the leftwing bbc called Have I got news for you.
@@michaelgillman2505and he’d actually cut through what’s being said to hold people to account and to find out things. PaxMan never did. Paxman simply delivered punch and Judy that was rude, and illicited nothing but attracted viewers. He just bullied his guests. When he started doing newsnight interviews he forgot any journalistic ability he ever had. Terrible waste of tv time and money. Hislop however I think is admirable, capable, smart eloquent, and says interesting things and asks important questions whilst rhetorically holding people to account.
May Ian live well into the 22nd century, cause we need him for this one!💯👏
Brilliant conversation. Her perspective is so reasoned and reasonable!
An absolute national treasure, speaking sense to nonsense for decades now
Don't talk stupid.
Thankyou Ian, your one of the few that speaks truth.
Brilliant to see so many positive response , hopefully the subscriptions to the Private Eye will increase so it can continue its investigative journalism.
Ian keeps the receipts - should be on QT more often to hold politicians to account.
If anyone should be given a peerage, he should.
I really don't like this deterrent argument.
I don't know any but... I really doubt that a rapist will stop raping because the sentence has went up. What's the idea? They were ready to do 7 years but 12 is too long? zzzz
punishment for any crime is rarely a deterrent. the main factor is likelyhood of being caught. if someone thinks they wont be caught, what influence could a hypothetical punishment even have?
I agree with you about the deterrent situation, it's lazy and it doesn't work. Right now most rapes are unreported and nearly 70% of rape victims drop out of investigations in England and Wales. So maybe they should start with looking at why that's happening.
You say this yet it's reported that a huge number of people believe in the government's Rwanda policy for immigration. The theory behind this policy is that potential immigrants will decide not to travel to the UK because there's a chance they'll get shipped to Rwanda instead. That's exactly the same principal as having a more severe deterrent for a crime, yet it seems so many people believe in this nonsense.
@@ince55ant Right. Every teacher knows that the punishment doesn't have to be harsh, it just has to be certain. Patel is a m0r0n.
@@bookie5667 where the numbers? Maybe the bubbles but all the support ive seen is for the refugees and not shipping them out.
.. not that they're actually shipping them out, they're just stealing your money under that banner.
Brilliant as ever, thanks Ian
What a man we need more people like him 😊
Got to love Ian Hislop a true national treasure and a thorn in MPs Sides keeping them honest or if not honest pointing out the truth on the behalf of voters
Ian gives us hope and makes life under the Tories bearable.
Don't worry, when Labour come to power soon, he will be after them too. Blair and Brown administrations felt his full force in 1997 to 2010.
I wouldnt go that far
Starmer no principles and changes direction like the wind when he's not sitting on the fence on anything he can't answer too is going to be any better is he..he's full of BS, .. only for the gullible.
A true 'National Treasure'
With all the talk about broken Britain: you do have excellent journalists!
Despite Hislop thinking the system is ludicrous, it's still very telling that he hasn't been made Sir Ian Hislop all these years. This man is more than a national treasure, and deserves a knighthood more than just about anyone who already has one. He contributes more to the national discourse and defends our values better than any grandstanding politician ever has, and has more integrity in his llittle finger than any of them have, too. Let's have it: Sir Ian. Sir Ian, Sir Ian (did that last bit remind anyone of SIR IAN McKellan in Extras?)
Wish we had more people like Ian Country would never of got into this state
HAAAVVVVVEEEEEEE!!!!!!!"! ....never have .....NEVER HAVE. der!
@@corvus1238 piss off
Well why hasn't he gone into politics and made your life better?
@@keithmarshall8796 He a journalist not a Politian maybe more Journalist should be holding his government to a better standard I am doing ok
@@keithmarshall8796 shit argument. UK parliament is a corrupt, toxic cesspool of class privilege. It appeals to a certain type of self serving, morally bankrupt public schooled w4nker. Why would Ian want to be any where near this shower?
Ian Hislop - the leader we never had!
👏
....🤣
That football ticket question should have been answered “No I’m sorry you can’t go because I’ve returned it to the people who sent it explaining it would be wrong to take this ticket as it could be construed by the general public that I’m open to bribes and backhanders! 🤔
Where would we be without Private Eye and Ian Hislop.
