    13 course meal....what a Christmas treat! And the breakfast table ...looks also loaded! MIssing Japanese food now. I hope to see this hotel when I get to go back to Japan.

      I felt so full after all those courses! 13 seems like so much but each course is quite small. Either way it felt like a feast.

    Its so nice that you were able to treat yourself and still make christmas special! I loved seeing the room and how different they are from standard hotels you might see in western countries - I love how open everything was. That dinner looked awesome!

      Staying at a tradtitional japanese hotel is a must while in Japan. It takes some getting used to when sleeping on the floor but it's all part of the experience.

      @@leahbell15 Not sure. He usually cooks when we are not in the kitchen. He has a big Japanese cook book.

    Thank you for posting. I've had a interest in Japan for many years. While I was in college many years ago I worked with a Japanese student with grammar and writing. I forget the students name I just remembered he enjoyed skiing. Just the other day I was watching another RUclips channel about Japanese tools. The Japanese attention to fine details is very admirable. It is very different to what I experience day to day. Enjoy your travels and safe travels. Take care.

    Japan looks amazing, I love the culture and calmness of the people. They really know how to live. I will definitely stay at a Ryokan if I get chance to go

      It7s a shame the weather was cold and rainy but it was still very relaxing to sit by the big windows and watch the rain inside my nice warm room .

      the staff was amazing and so was the food. Even though I was there for only one night, the relaxing atmosphere felt like I was there for days.

    that was absolutely amazing. we have friends that just came back from Japan and will definitely need to see if they stayed. we fell in love as soon as we saw the room. and don't get me started on the history there I mean 1300 years..wow. we have definitely add this to our bucket list. thank you so much for sharing. much love.

      Please do! There are many old traditional hotels like this in Japan and they are amazing to stay at (but also really expensive :/) Fun fact, more than half of the world's top 10 oldest businesses are in Japan.

      the hotel may be the oldest family owned hotel n the world but it certainly does not look it! Actually, more than half of the world's oldest business are actually in Japan lol.

      Staying at japanese ryokans are an amazing experience. They are a little expensive but honestly worth it for the relaxing and very traditional experience you get.

      I've had to spend the past few christmas' alone. It's one of the downsides to living in a different country than my family. But I'm super grateful to be able to live in such a great country like japan and explore so much of it's culture.

      That is really cool that you just read about this place! There are several onsens in Japan that offer private onsen but you usually have to pay a bit more for it.

      @@thetravellingwelshman I understand that struggle. Tattoos are often connected with the yakuxa here. However, with the coming Olympics Japan is trying to be more accepting of that.

    Wow I love your christmas make up. What I love about you as well is I can see so much joy by yourself even if you're just travelling on your own. Such a beautiful christmas getaway and a gift for yourself. I also wish to travel on my own one day as it's the best way to unwind and enjoy for yourself. I also enjoy knowing that this is the oldest hotel in Japan. It just goes to show how Japanese care a lot of their history and business. Omg it's hailing. We experience that as well last year when we were on our family vacation in South New Zealand. I was able to take a video but not uploaded yet lol but will do soon.

      I love doing special make-up for different holidays- my students really enjoy it. It was difficult to be away from my family again during the holidays but thats why i decided to treat myself. I think you should try solo traveling for sure! I look forward to seeing your video about your family vacation

      It really is! The hotel may be the oldest family-run hotel in the world but it does not look it. Hopefully when you come to Japan you can enjoy staying at a traditional japanese ryokan. You ca also reference more of my videos for ideas on where to travel in Japan.

      I really enjoy living in Japan and having the opportunity to enjoy so many unique things here. It's crazy that this hotel was only 30 minutes from my house and I only recently found out about it.

      It is the oldest family-owned business in the world. It was really interesting to learn about the history of the hotel while I was staying there.

      It is very traditional. All traditional Japanese hotel rooms will look like this. It definitely takes some getting used to but It's a really cool experience. Despite the fact that there isn't much furniture in the room, you will still feel like you are staying in luxury,

    This is such a cool experience! Definitely something different that we are used to as you know we love our hotels! We really hope to give ourselves this type of experience next time in Japan because of these onsen. We did one and it was very special in Kyoto. That meal!!!! Looks fantastic! "Itadakimasu" Definitely a great way to experience the holidays. Enjoyed your whole video!

    Isnt Nishiyama Onsen the oldest? It was built in 705 AD while HOUSHI Ryokan was built in 718AD.

      I'm aware that the oldest business is techinally in Yamanashi prefecture in Japan (also a hotel) but this particular hotel is the oldest "family run" business in the world.
