Staying at a tradtitional japanese hotel is a must while in Japan. It takes some getting used to when sleeping on the floor but it's all part of the experience.

I've had to spend the past few christmas' alone. It's one of the downsides to living in a different country than my family. But I'm super grateful to be able to live in such a great country like japan and explore so much of it's culture.

I love doing special make-up for different holidays- my students really enjoy it. It was difficult to be away from my family again during the holidays but thats why i decided to treat myself. It is very traditional. All traditional Japanese hotel rooms will look like this. It definitely takes some getting used to but It's a really cool experience. Despite the fact that there isn't much furniture in the room, you will still feel like you are staying in luxury,

I'm aware that the oldest business is techinally in Yamanashi prefecture in Japan (also a hotel) but this particular hotel is the oldest "family run" business in the world.

I felt so full after all those courses! 13 seems like so much but each course is quite small. Either way it felt like a feast.

Isnt Nishiyama Onsen the oldest? It was built in 705 AD while HOUSHI Ryokan was built in 718AD.
