Watching Star Wars as a child, I was so happy to see myself represented on screen being a blonde, American speaking moisture farmer who was a good pilot and wanted to run away to join the rebellion military.
Yup. Some of us are not racist and somehow can watch shows and movies that do not have exact representation on a screen. Previously I have never cared about if the main character was black/white/woman/man/paperclip/cartoon if the character was fitting and story good. Emotions etc. are universal no matter what sex or ethnicity the character represents.
Obviously e.g. Alien movie made only over $180M in box office from $10M production budget, because people hate to see strong women in leading roles.
I was a tall skinny white kid who wanted to be Bruce Lee. I escaped into the characters, I didn’t want them to look like me.

Exactly, we connect with the characters based on their actions, personality, and how they are as a HUMAN. Its so ironic how the woke are. They are exactly what they claim to fight against.

I know it's been said a million times now, but none of the characters in LotR look like me (maybe some random Haradrim) and that has never stopped me loving it. Never stopped me empathizing with the characters, because they're goddamn people.
Race bending character only hurts the authenticity of the adaptation, it does not make it more "inclusive"
I never liked John McClain because he was white. I liked him because he was badass. I never had any delusions about being able to walk on broken glass without crying like a bitch.

I read a beautiful comment from a young girl recently who is wheelchair bound she said (paraphrasing ) how much she loved LOTR growing up and yet she never felt like they needed cut the legs off of anyone for her to identify with the characters.
This is the second video where they talk about LOTR as part of the conversation. It throws me each time Gundam says he doesn't know anything about LOTR, because I keep forgetting he's not "JustSomeGuy" and I expecting some kind of deep LOTR lore tangent that everybody dives into when they bring up The Rings of Power series.
It's so infantalizing too.

There isn't a lack of original stories, studios just don't want to gamble on making them when they can easily just remake something.
I also remember hearing a news/rumor that there are plenty of good original stories offered, but they are turned down because they do not fill modern diversity quotas.
Either stories are not filled with various ethnicities or maybe the writer itself is not "ethnic" enough. Both of which could be believable reasons in todays climate.
People like Tolkien experienced global war. They drew from those experiences, and the people they met, to come up with deep and thought provoking stories.
The current crop of creatives have experienced the world through backpacking trips and destination getaways.
While I agree with you to a point, it also helped that Tolkien was a professor of European language whereas some of these creeps that "screenwrite" today speak about four words a year... Mostly consisting of "big Mac and fries"
Which actually puts creatives in a bit of a bind. How are they supposed to draw from experiences they don't have? That are they are filled with morons.
They're indoctrinated revisionists on a mission that has nothing to do with the source material of whichever IP they capture then vandalize.
Or worse, they're like the citizens of the 70s version of The Emerald City from the musical The Wiz. I will preface by saying I'm a big fan of Sargon, however his take on America's intervention in Ukraine is absolutely absurd and dangerous. "America should come in and stomp out Russia" is apocalyptic as a proposal, especially on the basis that Sargon doesn't "feel" Putin would resort to nuclear war, which we should not risk the annihilation of America, Russia, and likely everyone else for, but we also have absolutely no evidence or prior history to base this "feeling" on. It sucks when bad people don't play by the rules and you have to be the bigger people and not nuke humanity to death, but when the lines are drawn with nukes they must not be redrawn, Ukraine despite being a friendly nation isn't our military ally and thus we can't intervene without the immense risk of nuclear war and that is the unfortunate reality of living in a time where humans possess the power to wipe out the planet. So American military intervention should be the very last thing anyone wants.
Love the Farscape series + the peacekeeper wars. I watched it all several times. Was that good, although some episodes don't age as well as others. It still holds up today, as Drinker says "actual character progression".
54:15 speaking of this, ever heard of Melian? In the Silmarillion, she's a female Maia who married an elf king. He was a warrior, yes, but she was the biggest thorn in the side of Melkor because she used her magic to *hide an entire kingdom* .
Galadriel was much the same, and Tolkien seemed to have a soft spot for women having indirect power over the physical (unlike say Gandalf who literally summons fire out of nothing). Where Melian's power was over "the appearance of reality", and Luthien's "the power of music over the world", Galadriel was literally a force of nature. Tempests suddenly starting with lightning, landslides occuring, rivers rising out of their beds.
To Tolkien, women simply weren't built for direct warfare, but if need be they could always act outside the bonds of conventional conflict.

I don't expect to see a lot of black people in Warhammer as a black person because there's no sunlight in Hive cities in planets that have been environmentally damaged beyond comprehension so expect people to be pale it's like I don't expect to see a black dwarf the species that lives inside of mountains
I want a 5 hour stream of these guys talking about farscape.. that conversation at the start was a nice surprise as I started rewatching farscape a couple weeks ago.
both the kingsman portrayed fatherhood positively. Colin Firth's mentor role to Taren Egerton is very endearing and inspiring. Both in the first and second film, where there's a callback to the first, Firth's character makes Egerton's look in the mirror so that he can see what he sees: a young man with potential, who's loyal and wants to do something good in the world.

Farscape was a ton of fun. "Crackers don't matter" was my favorite episode for a while, because that was the episode where Crichton had the advantage because humans are less "advanced" than the other races.
Ben Browder also PERFECTLY played the "human in a strange world and almost completely out of his depth, and going a little crazy because of it" role.

I was watching the Mary Queen of Scott's, the one with Margot Robbie, because i wanted to see a Caucasian historical event that's very important in England and Scottland. Even though I'm black, I do appreciate European cultures, stories, and mythologies.

The King's Man was pretty good, but it only seemed to have limited run in the cinema in the UK. Fiennes is great and I hope they continue with him in a sequel.
I was pleasantly surprised with The King’s Man. It was much more serious than the trailers made it out to be. I enjoyed the hell out of it.
I liked it but it had competition. _The King's Man_ had 6 people in my cinema while the parking lot was full of cars parked by people who were there to see _Spider-Man._ Just bad timing.

Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake never got a US release until 2005 Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater Subsistence Edition. It's the backdrop to Metal Gear Solid which does NOT need to be remade a 3rd time.
Everything else in films, anime adaptions, comic adaptions etc can buzz off. I'd accept a Japanese anime series based directly from Katsuhiro Otomo's AKIRA Manga.
In 2019 otomo (original creator of comic and film) announced he is coming back to do an akira seque film AND series. Am excited :))))))

The absolute gall and entitlement of those LOTR "fans". It's not supposed to represent you, it's not your culture, and it never will be. It's our culture. If you grew up not seeing people who look like you on the TV, that could be a clue that you grew up in the wrong place. That's not our problem. I'm sure if I'd grown up in India or Nigeria, I wouldn't have seen many people who looked like me on the TV, but there's an easy solution to that isn't there...

My girlfriends almost got a kick ass tesla apprenticeship here on aus. The recruiters loved her because she wasn't just "diversity girl"
But the franchise owner gave the position to his drop kick grandson after my girlfriend should have been accepted. He delayed signing her on because he wasn't sure his grandson would get the job he wanted. So he waited to find out then when he didn't get it he gave her apprenticeship to him. Both my girlfriend and the recruiters were pretty irritated by the whole thing.

I hate the talk of diversity, or lack of same, in Lotr. I first got into it at age 11 and was so enthralled that it inspired me to write my own fantasy stories. As I was in the Philippines, my stories were full of brown people. I knew Tolkien's characters were white (as no matter what RoP shills say, Tolkien did describe his characters as such) but it certainly didn't matter to me, nor did it make me think fantasy was only for white people. These creators need to do as kid me did and make an original fantasy story with black/brown people if it's so important to them. But I don't think it is important to them, just virtue signaling.
Universal human themes are lost on todays Hollywood writers.
Gundam makes me laugh like no one else.

When it comes to casting other races for roles when it's not deliberate. Look at Morgan Freeman's character in The Shawshank Redemption. The character in the story was Irish, with red hair, that's why his nickname was Red.

On the topic white Black Panther, specifically in the MCU: I recently saw a video, by Perch I think, where a viewer suggested that Bucky should receive the mantle of Black Panther. And, all Twitter hilarity aside, I honestly think that could be a really interesting story line and character arc (in better times, where films and comics are made to be actually good). Thoughts anyone?

Personally, I've never ranked Bucky in terms of being an engaging character. He always seems to find relevancy because of who he's standing beside or the mantle he picks up. Cap, Falcon, becoming Cap (in the comics). Acquiring the Panther mantle just seems like it would follow this line and be redundant because of it. Just my 2 cents. But hey, I'm a big Sentry fan so wtf do I know?
