Open Bar has such a different feel from the other panel streams. Some really great discussion, especially on the writing process and how films used to be constructed vs how they're cobbled together nowadays, and it's all a lot more chill. Was thinking about the interview with Rebecca Ferguson and the over-girl power mentality. And it made me remember an interview with the actress playing Black Widow's sister. She was saying "I'm only interested at playing strong female characters". What the Hell is that? If I was an actor, I would want to explore every type of characters. I would want to play weak ones, strong ones, in particular those with flaws. Put myself in danger to grow as an actor. But no, what is important is "You go, Queen!".
I agree, but I don't recall Stallone ever playing anything other than a tough guy. Few actors are true artists. Looking back, the most ''diverse'' movies have ever been was let's say between 1960 and the early 2000's. Before that, you had the meek woman and the one dimensional male hero and villain. In between was the true era of self expression within the arts and actually Western society itself. Now, either everyone's a badass or the women are and the ''good'' guys are incompetent and the villains are one-dimensional and basic again. This isn't progress, this is regression. EDIT: Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, the thought just struck me. I might not have seen enough movies for this to be accurate.
@@user-rq1ej3dt3r You are completely right. Now as far as Stallone, even as a kid I thought he was a meat head and not someone I ever cared for. ah ha Now every woman is basically Stallone. Which is a strange turn of events. I would think they would want to be more than the stupidest representation of man. A movie I loved was La Femme Nikitta. A girl hand picked to be an assassin by French intelligence. She does it but it's a shore for her to do it. She cries, she fight not do it, to get out of that life. But the important thing is that I wish women would approach situations different than men to succeed. Like for insance in Avengers Natasha defeat Loki by tricking him and trying to look weak. She didn't have to beat 10 guys by herself(in that scene, at least).
@@johnnyskinwalker4095 True, it's the sign of a practical person to rely on more than brute force to get to where they need to go. And I just mentioned Stallone because it was the first one I could think of. Rocky is a masterpiece though, and most of his movies are pretty entertaining. But yeah, Stallone is mainly good at being Stallone.
@@user-rq1ej3dt3r you didn't watch Copland? And frankly Rocky & First Blood are FAR MORE than "tough male characters.". Stallone has played many great deep characters, many of which were tough guys. But if you really think that's all he's played or that's all there was to his characters you are, I apologise, part of the problem with modern audience. Try Lords of Flatbush, Paradise Alley, & Copland.
@@HulkCrow Indeed Rocky and Rambo were more than that, but ''tough dude'' still applies, no? I'm aware there's way more to them than Dredd for instance. He played many characters with flaws and clear struggles, but none of them weak willed. Not vulnerable to that extent. But I picked Stallone over Arnie, for one, as a quick example because afaik he didn't star in things like Junior or Twins. I will check out the movies you've recommended, thanks :)
I'm calling it right now. Matrix 4 is going to have the same effect on 2 and 3 as the the last Jedi had on the prequels. I.e. it's going to be so bad it's going to make me appreciate them.
Good call. Totally agree. We'll be sitting in Matrix 4 going " Man I wish they'd have another cave rave, or the architect would show up...: because what we're seeing is either total shit or just a complete rehash of the original.
George Lucas is like Dan Aykroyd. Great ideas man. Put him on a bit of a leash and you get Ghostbusters. Let him go free and you get something insane like Nothing But Trouble.
Nothing But Trouble is just weird and funny. Real insane films like Ichi The Killer, Gozu or Love Exposure are ten times more crazy than Nothing But Trouble.
There was this thing I felt that started to crop up in story telling a few years back where everything had to be dark gritty and nihilistic. Every story had to have people behave poorly, suffer terrible fates, nothing matter. The bad guys win or the good guys devolve into the bad guys. In short, there were no happy stories anymore it felt like. Stories where the under dog worked and won the day. It's always gotta be bitter sweet or just terrible. Then we have today's movies that are hailed as being emotional. But they're not. Emotional notes that they're full of a range of emotions, but more often it's just bitterness, ego, hate, and often a streak of self righteousness. It has me really realize that the people behind stories now a days are just really hate filled terrible people who can only write negativity cause that's all they know. They don't have optimism. They don't beleive in happy endings, nor do they want them. They just want to wallow in that hate and bitterness. And it comes out in their writing. We need the optimists writing stories. The people who see a brighter future and beleive in it. Not the petty self righteous zealots or nihilistic. Until that happens you ll just continue to see terribly written stories full of bitter and terrible characters.
Hey Drinker, great conversation. Glad to see you're gathering commentators for discussion. You should invite a RUclipsr named Mr.H Reviews. UK bloke with a great outlook!
*pushes glasses up on nose* Dune is actually something like 23,000 years in the future, at the start of Dune, its the year 10,191 AG (after guild), after the formation of the Spacing Guild
"Have you noticed how music/movies in the 80s was all about effort, personal struggle, overcoming odds? And how the crapfest of today is all about entitlement and gimme, I want it? Human civilization is rapidly approaching the end of the road" This qoute is from somebody in a Iron Eagle video Rising up, back on my feet
I really dig RMB’s contributions. A deep love of the pop culture, while thankfully lacking the black-pill lens of The others. A great counter balance in the discussion.
Speaking of Kelly's Heroes: Where Eagles Dare from the same director (also with Eastwood) is just as awesome. And is one of the main influences of the older Wolfenstein-games.
Loving these open bars Drinker. Great conversation as always. If you ever get a chance, invite MR. H on for one of these. He's UK based and seems like a good dude. Love the guys you have on today, especially Robert Meyer Burnett.
Oh that superior Motherly protective instinct that Fathers just don't have; B.S. Robert! You always see those scenes in movies an TV that show where the Mother shields the children with her own body and every body tears up and thinks, omg, now that's someone who truly loves their children to a degree that only a mother could. Now, if you were to sit down and think about it for a couple of seconds, you'll realize that the only reason the bad guys got to the women and children, is because all the men are lying dead outside, having given their lives in hope of sparing their wives and children. Men love their families to a degree that we've been dying to protect them since time in memoriam and to claim that women somehow love their children more is more than insulting.
@critical drinker, can you please get Robert Meyer Burnett to appear on these streams again? This dude is a national treasure! The share insight he brings into each topic elevates the entire conversation.
Fantastic steam guys. It's very sad for Star Trek when the best thing about it is Star Trek Online a video game only cause you have a choice not like the film/tv garbage gives you depression so sad
I wasn't even a massive trek fan but tng is one of those shows that I watched, got that it was saying something more than "hey look, there's an alien with a funny face and fire photon torpedo's". I watched it all anyway because you had the great humanity aspect. The goal of striving above shit that shouldn't matter and helping other civilizations rise above the shit that we worry about in everyday life was brilliant.
Omigosh! Don't Burnett mentioned the 'Sci-Fi book club'. Takes me back to mix 60's.. Sci-Fi book club, launching Model rockets, Heathkit AM radio kits, Gemini space flights, Star Trek..HOW JAMES BOND... all at the same time. That was a fantastic time to be a kid.
Great scene to pick out there Drinker, exactly why i love Star Trek. There are so many moments like that. In Deep Space there is a great scene with Quark explaining why people are scared of other races, its written so well without any agenda.

I love this! As much as I love EFAP, Happy Hour, all the media-focused podcasts y'all do, hearing discussion about whatever happens to be happening at the time is fantastic as well. In a world full of shit, it's nice to have a laugh about it and a discussion where you know no one's going to hate each other afterwards.
Amen drinker on dad showing off older movies! My young kids have seen many older timeless classics. Heck my daughter took gnarfle the garthack scene from Coneheads to kindergarten to talk about lol
The problem with some dads showing old movies is there taste can be shit. No actual knowledge if the past. This makes a hugh difference when selling it. My brother tried to sell me Tge Bodyguard. I liked Kevin, but that asswhole Whitney.
42:00 Barney from Mission Impossible, the 1960s TV series, was a black guy and an electronics whiz. The series was very popular and lasted from 1966 to 1973. 11/27/22
Dune takes place way longer in the future than 10,000 years, actually. It's been 10,000 After Guild. It's implied there's thousands of years of history Before Guild too.
So many great RUclipsrs in one virtual watering hole. Awesome. Raising a glass from The Delirium to one and all. 🍻 And yes, we're on the verge of becoming a multi-planet species! That's the kind of shit we've been waiting for since childhood. Back when they knew how to write decent sci-fi! 🤘
Went for a campervan holiday in Scotland and randomly saw dankula chatting with two peeps in the street whilst getting a taxi to where we were picking up our camper van. Remember telling the gf and she was like, naah!? Pointed you out and she was like what the actual fuck. Was mental. haha
If it's true, the rumour that George Lucas had originally planned to had Jar Jar Binks be a Sith, then the prequels could have been absolutely brilliant commentary on how society still ascribes certain preconceptions onto others based on how they speak.
57:15 I love Yaphet Kotto & I get his point here - but Bubba Ho-Tep was a pretty great movie with a black guy playing JFK. (It makes sense in context).
Great gathering! Interesting and open minded discussion! The points made and remarks were witty and sometimes too painfully true! It just kept getting better and better!
The matrix for me as a kid was what Star Wars was for most people. I found all the lore and everything just completely captivating. I watched the movies, played all the games, dressed up as Neo for Halloween, all of it. I totally understand people's disappointments with the sequels. I actually loved them because of how much the lore expanded during those times. The second one was my favorite as a kid because Neo was just an absolute god. I've seen what's happened to cinema in recent years and it does NOT give me hope for a new matrix movie. However, analysis of the trailer hints there could be some interesting lore developments here that the people like me will enjoy. Idk, I'm not so naive as to think it'll all be fine...I watched every other franchise I enjoy go down the shitter too, but having at least one of the Wachowskis on board gives me **some** hope. Hoping for the best and withholding all judgement until I've seen it. Probably a good chance I'll enjoy it more than most people. That's fine. May tune out for a lot of the critiques once it's out but you guys will probably be the ones who are right. Lol. That's just to say I will probably only come near talk about this movie here if it turns out to be the TLJ of the matrix.

If it does that then we can say its a success at least.
One can only judge from the trailer, but it looks promising. I'm excited.
Good call. Totally agree. We'll be sitting in Matrix 4 going " Man I wish they'd have another cave rave, or the architect would show up...: because what we're seeing is either total shit or just a complete rehash of the original.
I actually never minded revolutions as an action flick, reloaded I've always hated.
And you were 100% correct. Makes 2 and 3 look like masterpieces
Great show and great guests, give us more!
RMB SHOULD be running Star Trek, IMO.
Agreed. Rob is the man
Hell yes.
I'm imaginging AZ beating the crap of that character and cannot stop laughing.
He would find that character is one hard block of wood.
@@davidbrennan660 ah ha ha AZ:"there's nothing I can do! she's made of wood!"
45:23 Spot on, Drinker! Godzilla is my favorite movie franchise ever, and it was my Dad who first showed me those old movies when I was a wee lad
Drinker you make some many great points hard to count them all, I cant think of one franchise is better off now than when it started.
Drinker could we possibly get a short about your thoughts on Boondock Saints? I watched it again yesterday & forgot how good it is.
Yes ! Thanks for the comments on Man On Fire ! One of the best Action/Dramas of the last 20 years 👍✌️
The hook in the first Matrix was that, for the first 30 minutes, you didn't know what was going on. The mystery was gone in the sequels
These streams are so good ! Thanks for these man
Loved The kingdom on Netflix. Thanks for bringing it up Rob
AZ is hilarious. Feels like if I met him in real life we would be friends.
He grew on me, I would be lying if I said I liked him right off the bat lol.
Very charismatic, charming and funny.
@@TwistedReality13 np man. everyone is different
Some people are a laugh but a nuisance if you have too much of their time.... just saying, we are not all for everyone.
"Have you noticed how music/movies in the 80s was all about effort, personal struggle, overcoming odds?
And how the crapfest of today is all about entitlement and gimme, I want it?
Human civilization is rapidly approaching the end of the road"
This qoute is from somebody in a Iron Eagle video
Rising up, back on my feet
What about the 80s music, that was about non-stop-partying or the drug-glorification?
I think you are right, it would be great to have Dave Cullen in the open bar.
This was a great stream with a lot of great discussion.
Dank was awesome on the alien 3 video, made me check out and sub to his channel. Also Nerdrotic's channel. Keep storytelling alive gentleman.
He's in the latest open bar
Fantastic steam guys. It's very sad for Star Trek when the best thing about it is Star Trek Online a video game only cause you have a choice not like the film/tv garbage gives you depression so sad
I wasn't even a massive trek fan but tng is one of those shows that I watched, got that it was saying something more than "hey look, there's an alien with a funny face and fire photon torpedo's". I watched it all anyway because you had the great humanity aspect. The goal of striving above shit that shouldn't matter and helping other civilizations rise above the shit that we worry about in everyday life was brilliant.
Another awesome video, thank you for your hard work.
Omigosh! Don't Burnett mentioned the 'Sci-Fi book club'.
Takes me back to mix 60's..
Sci-Fi book club,
launching Model rockets,
Heathkit AM radio kits,
Gemini space flights,
Star Trek..HOW
JAMES BOND...
all at the same time.
That was a fantastic time to be a kid.
Great scene to pick out there Drinker, exactly why i love Star Trek. There are so many moments like that. In Deep Space there is a great scene with Quark explaining why people are scared of other races, its written so well without any agenda.
I'd like to hear this again with only Drinker, Dank, and Nerdrotic.
No love for RMB?
Blast, I was hoping the drinker would read my name followed by the amount I paid. Foiled this time but there is still Gary and Friday night tights, ONWARDS
Also, congrats on the subs drinker, noticed watching this you were at 899k and thought wow, you’ll be on a million before the end of the year
Watching this in December and hearing Robert say “if Daniel Craig dies, if Bond dies”… GIMME THOSE LOTTERY NUMBERS ROB!
Has Tatiana ever walked into the frame behind Drinker in one of these livestreams? :D
She’s under the desk
Well I would like to sincerely thank you gentlemen for this stream. I’ve had delightful time chilling with you and a glass of whisky.
glad i finally got to sit in on one
Good times here, glad to know there's others with same point of view on these topics.
This is great more of this.. gets me through my work day.

This show is awesome, and what an all star cast 😁 you guys rule
42:00 Barney from Mission Impossible, the 1960s TV series, was a black guy and an electronics whiz. The series was very popular and lasted from 1966 to 1973.

Dune takes place way longer in the future than 10,000 years, actually. It's been 10,000 After Guild. It's implied there's thousands of years of history Before Guild too.
~30000 years in future
I fucking love the Open Bar conversations. I drive often for work and just let em play all day
Great movie posters? Blade Runner (not 2049).
Also, Ford v Ferrari, Logan, LA Confidential. Layer Cake and 3:10 to Yuma.
“Rub Ginies” would be a great band name
omg Dan Simmons is mentioned
So many great RUclipsrs in one virtual watering hole. Awesome. Raising a glass from The Delirium to one and all. 🍻
And yes, we're on the verge of becoming a multi-planet species! That's the kind of shit we've been waiting for since childhood. Back when they knew how to write decent sci-fi! 🤘
The defining Scottish movie for me is RESTLESS NATIVES ... A true Classic with great music by Big Country.
New Drinker channel, WooHoo!!
Glad to see Count Dankula on the show

I love Yaphet Kotto & I get his point here - but Bubba Ho-Tep was a pretty great movie with a black guy playing JFK. (It makes sense in context).
All these videos and this is the first I hear the drink genuinely angry... Great show guys!

This stream has to be the greatest stream ever, an all-star cast, talking about everything! By far my favorite stream!
