I was turning a hollow form bowl with severe insect damage as I got deeper into the project. I finished it anyway and was just going to keep it in my shop. My adult daughter saw it and fell in love with it and displays it proudly in her home! You never know how someone will perceive the finished project! The grain on yours looks awesome and I don't think the crack takes away from the piece. Nice work.
I agree, you never really know how a piece will be received until it’s ‘out in the wild’ so to speak. I’ve got a couple more videos where I use insect damaged wood that you may like. They can be found here: Woodturning - The Decaying Egg ruclips.net/video/MyYmO-1Turs/видео.html Woodturning - Busted Boxelder Bowl ruclips.net/video/qbIgoUubLIk/видео.html Thanks for commenting and giving feedback!
@@CroakyOak I just finished watching both videos. The Box Elder was almost exactly like the hollow form I referenced in my initial comment. Your finish had a golden glow to it. What type was it? In the Decaying Egg, I actually watched and commented two months ago. That crack the entire length of the log would have given me second thoughts about even turning it and I'm glad it turned out good in the end.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting on multiple videos! I don’t remember exactly what finish I used for that video. I may have just wiped the surface with alcohol or mineral spirits to make the grain more visible on camera. Whatever it was, I can tell you that it was thin enough not to plug up the insect galleries. I was leery of what would happen when turning a piece wood with such a pronounced crack. However, my curiosity about whether or not the piece would hold together was stronger. 🤔
Every project should be a learning experience..Looks good.
I agree completely. Thanks for commenting.
Great job,Happy Christmas!
Thanks! You too!
@@CroakyOak thank you 😊🍾
Looks good. Makes me want to go get a piece of firewood and turn it into a chess piece.
That can work! I’m still amazed at what can be made from firewood. Good luck.
