      @@AmyDurtschi-v1i good morning! 😄 Yes, not to mention growing seedling/young plants to mature specimen.... I also keep discus fish..that's an even more challenging hobby either they get intestinal diseases or they'll thrive for you, nothing in between ever occurs 😂. I waited 6-7 years for my cattleya Vinosa to start flowering only to witness the thrips feasting on its blooms. Good thing I found the spray solution to spray on buda and even opened blooms which will keep the thrips away.

    Good looking cattleyas! 🤩 Yes - species can actually flower with no sheath also - one of my labiata did both! I got 5 cattleyas from Schwerter today, they all looked good, but the warscewiczii I got ”one year to flowering size”….. well probably 3-4 years! 🤨🤣🤣 but for 20 euro I can wait! Looking forward to see more of your cattleyas! 🤩👍

My primary hybrid lc Elegans just did that, one cheeth with buds, and lne cane without a cheeth. Strange but it never did that before!

    Hej, its 21:15 and still 28 C and no end in sight. This time you have to get the heat too as it is coming from the Mediterranean sea. I also do constant orchid cleaning but not because of bugs but dust from a 3 storey house which was torn down, not only noise but also air pollution and earth quake feeling. Its impossible to keep the windows closed. At least no invasion of grasshoppers or crickets... yet (knock on wood).
    I have a lot of dried sheets, even my little Golden Boy (reliable bloomer) said 'no thanks'. My triane also has a first sheet. Would be gread if at least this one made it but I have my doubts.
    Your nobile video made me repot mine and I now have finally a community pot of the keikis of the cooksonianum look-a-like you have. Many regards!

Ohhh I'd love to get a bit of dust instead of this infestation that's been haunting my collection for the last two years now. hey karin, really sorry it didn't work for you. Like you said if you want to get rif of them for good you need to treat up to 10 days. But like you mentioned it is a lot of work. I've been cleaning plants since beginning of the year, about 3 per day. Eventually you will win the battle but I really do not ever want to go through all that again.
    You might have to use the domestos instead of a supermarket brand - I believe that will make a difference.
    But otherwise it is good to see you are getting good at spotting them by now which is a huge step in getting rid of them.
    All the best.

      @KarinsOrchids  3 месяца назад +1

      @@tomfurmby88 Thank's you Tom. At first I didn't even know they were there, thought spidermites did the damage.. its worse when summer,, when I need to hsve Windows and doors open and when it gets dry. They often sit on my white wall... and now I've even noticed them to the bottom of the containers. I've tried bleach for a few vandas and it really took a toll kn their leaves. But for dip watering the whole pots medium and all.. bleach works great. After all this hard work I'm slowly starting to recognise my orchids again, with longer time bloomings, undistorted flowers etc. We're getting there 🥰🥰

    I was recently on vacation and then had to dispose of a large part of my Phalaenopsis collection because of the thrips... They are currently causing me a lot of problems, I'm still trying to use neem oil. The Chomthong Fancy is a great hybrid, I have three of them that I once picked up from the garden center when they were overbloomed for €10 each. They are still sitting in their hanging baskets in coconut husk and growing really well. I'm still waiting for flowers though. Do you actually have any experience with lava stone as a substrate?

    • @KarinsOrchids
      @KarinsOrchids  3 месяца назад

      @@mfle3407 Hi there! Thank's for watching this video. These last 2 years have been quite demanding. Thrips and more thrips..summer period is thre worst.. dry. After this I will never complain about a few mealies or scale again 😁. Chontong fancy is soooo lovely, I guess yellow/red/orange in combination is my no one favourite combo. No not so much really regarding the lava rocks.. charcoal pumice and gravel is the closest I got to that type of growing. Had a few lava rocks in a glass vase with a vanda recently but I guess thst doesn't really count. 😀
