- The Old Kingdom Hearts Games had a different aura around when it came to the Mystery of the Next World and setting. This isn't a fault of Kingdom Hearts but really just a trend of Modern Gaming..

What makes KH1 and 2 so good is how focused they were.
Not only were the stories simpler, but we actually experienced and learned everything with Sora. Even Sora didn’t play Chain of Memories, so we were just as confused as he was when he woke up and knew nothing of Castle Oblivion. There weren’t a bunch of moving parts that required playing millions of games beforehand.
The combat also didn’t have thousands of mechanics that all stepped on each others’ toes. They had just enough to keep things fresh yet familiar, but more important, challenging.
100%
i miss playing a new one every couple of years
its been such a treat to grow up with such a magical franchise
I was 14 at the time, was their day 1 for KH1, it was an incredible experience and one that has got it's grips in me to this day. I'm hooked fir life😂
KH1 truly is special for many of us who grew up playing it in the early 2000s ❤
In my mind, the mainline games were always self contained. Thats what made them great. I was 4yo when i played KH1, watching my dad play. I was about 8 when i played KH2! I had no idea there were other games and a over arching story. Yet, i didnt care, KH and KH2 were self contained and it made them great
The lack of surprises definitely effected my opinion of KH 3. I knew a little bit of what was in other KH games before playing them but KH3 showed everything. It left no surprises and I felt absolutely nothing playing through the game. I've already decided to go into KH4 as little as possible.
I agree. Kh3 had worlds of some of the most popular Disney movies so it was impossible for square not to advertise them.
The only surprise was how much it sucked.
Agreed
For that reason it's a good idea not to watch the trailers. Especially from square enix, they seem to not care about spoilers in the same way as the west at ALL. As a kh content creator it's probably way harder for you not to watch them, but it's definitely something to consider for anyone else reading this. I mean, rather obviously, it's easier to keep the mystery the less you know going in
You think this helps? I avoided most kh3 trailers yet every RUclipsr had videos with spoilery titles or theories. Even the thumbnails had spoilers. It's impossible to avoid them
think it does vary game to game, kh3 in particular was given way too much spoiler stuff shown and unlike other properties they get far little. dragon quest for instance hardly had spoilers revealed in the trailers and marketing for 11. think the problem is that square as far as west marketing have so skewed of a selection to show off that it ends up unbalanced which is a known infamous thing square does where a small list of games get way too much air time while anything else hardly does and recently the ff7 remakes are getting that too
I do that for films and games tv shows. I like finding out on my own
i totally agree with you which is why i stopped going online much anymore, whenever i watch a movie, show, play brand new game i try not to see any kind of previews because i want everything to be new to me
I miss when KH was simple. My favourite will always be KH1 for the story.
Now things just seem way too confusing it’s distracting from the beauty of the game itself
I agree, but other players will find a million excuses that the older games are worse than the new ones. At the end of the day it is all subjective. I love KH1 and KH2 ❤
@@xXLunatikxXlul yeah, that’s was my subjective opinion.. 😳
Brother that was 22 years ago, the story has been complicated for 2 decades now it's kinda been the franchise DNA for a big majority of its lifespan
@@alexappsapp1332 did you forget the part when I said “I miss…”.
Yeah that applies to things in the past.
@@jamiek9780 Yeah but it just feels weird to say things like this STILL when it was from a time before most KH fans were even born. Like Ansem said when he died in KH3 "It's time to move on boy, there are new things to seek, so go out now and seek it"
As someone who got into Kingdom Hearts as an adult, I honestly enjoy most of the games. However, I can't deny that I see the charm in KH1 and KH2 that is missing from some of the newer titles.
I think many factors contribute to this issue. Too many spoilers. KH3's story was pretty much ruined from how much they showed.
2. Lack of importance from the villains. Org 13 should have been more active rather than constantly sitting and waiting for Sora to move. Without strong villains, the stories feel lackluster without any stakes. KH1 Maleficent was peak. I hope KH4 kicks up the villains, or at least makes the Foretellers/MoM interesting and proactive.
3. Diversity of worlds. They keep bringing back the same Disney worlds. I understand why they do it (Hercules is used as a parallel to Sora and Riku often, with showing Sora how to be a here and comparing Herc's sacrifice for Meg to Riku's sacrifice for Sora). However, I think they can and should draw parallels from other Disney films not just the same few films.
The original Disney villain group of KH1 was my favourite gang of villains. Org 13 was perfect for a new big bad group. ❤
i too cried after a painstaking run at 11 years old and countless deaths at the hands of cerberus only to be split from the person weve been trying to save. thanks nomura
back when the commercials of these games aired i knew nothing about square enix having only had a snes and n64 but when i had a ps2 play on i forget about the commercials about both games but then i saw kh1 at a rental store played through but remembered that there scenes i have seen that werent in the first game so i picked up the second and so it all came together... wauting a bunch of years for 3 while seeing the ds games and playing the psp game
I wish I could lose my memory and re experience kingdom hearts for the first time again like there’s just something so amazing about the first time playing this Game my memories we’re so much joyed when I first played these games

I have a feeling KH 4 is gonna make us all cry . For yozora .
I disagree.
Keep your expectations low for that game
@@ShadowMoon96 as in we wanted yozora but got sora .
I dont want Yozora
@@iggsultubo9188 go away .
As much as I’d love for the Disney worlds to be a surprise, I get that it’s how to market the game. I mean, just think about the immense amount of traction KH4 will get when they officially reveal the Star Wars world. For me, as long as they’re not spoiling important story-related stuff in the trailers then it’s fine. We can’t go through what we did with KH3 again… 😭😭😭
I had the same feeling I had for Super Smash Bros. I was surprised to find out that some characters appeared in the game, I was not spoiled before playing the games. With the newer one, with all the trailers released, yes, I could had retained of seeing them, but it felt more like an event to witness than just trailers. But yes, with that we lose the mystery of what a new game can offer. I think the view of gaming has change since then.
i miss that KH 3D commercial
I started with 358 days/2 in 2009 after hearing the beautiful music from the commercial. I rented it and almost beat it but had to return it. That Christmas I got the game and was so grateful. I loved Roxas character and related to his journal entries since I wrote in journals too. Cried when I beat that game. Kh still makes me emotional. Such a beautiful masterpiece.
i was, 8 or 9 when i found KH1 at a friends house, all fans and tried to beat the game together and read guide books to get along. i do miss the look and feel of the PS2 era. a game can look like a PS2 game just make it fun and a good story. and ill always be down to try a game like that out.
You know it’s actually interesting, before I played both kingdom hearts 1 and 2. I had never watched the nightmare before Christmas or Tron and I didn’t even know both movies existed until after I played both games for the first time too. It was literally news to me! I went and watched both movies afterwards but after that I basically knew about every Disney property afterwards, whether it was animated or live-action so I’m definitely up to date now. For the longest time I only ever knew about the original animated movies and not as many live-action content. With certain exceptions like Mary Poppins of course. It’s still so weird how that property hasn’t been featured in the series yet at all!
the problem with kh3 was that they revealed too much about the game before it was even close to coming out, which I hope they learn from for kingdom hearts 4 as I don't want to be spoiled without playing the game, I want to be surprised with what they bring to the table.
ironically the 180 is happening now, i would say it's better to do it's just with no news for so long then what was the point of revealing kh4 few years back
Knowing too much going in was the least of their problems lol it was just a bad game through and through
@@qownsqud3207agreed. KH3 is a bad 2010s game.
I miss the old KH2 animation style
Same. It was less plastic-looking.
Favorite Kh games:
1# Kingdom Hearts
2# Kingdom Hearts 2
3# Birth By Sleep
4# Dream Drop Distance
5# Union Cross
6# Kingdom Hearts 3
Honestly, I feel a very similar way in regards to the world reveals. I think I would appreciate knowing some of the worlds and still holding the other one's back as a mystery
So glad you brought up Hunchback in particular. I remember when DDD came out on 3DS, it hit me that SORA (and Riku) were...in a CHURCH. Like, a CHURCH, that presumably is christian. It was so bizarre to me. I never watched Hunchback of Notre Dame or read the original fairy tale at that point, but it felt more than ever that KH was kinda crossing over or making a commentary on the "rea world". Symbolized a growth that only KH2 really had
I really wish that Escala was a world you could of explored instead of having a final fight with Master Xehanort
Even souls game let the player explore the area before the final boss a bit lol
❤❤❤
I remember first time I played KH . I dint have memory card on my ps2 but dint mind playing from the beginning every time I booted up . That intro is so nostalgic and I never skipped it 😂. And my favorite world is honestly Halloween town!
I went into KH3 blind and it was a great experience, can’t wait to do the same for KH4
The first two kingdom hearts games were magical adventures that didn't' require you to play 15 different games across 6 different platforms to understand what was going on. Odds are, you probably won't, because off all the convoluted BS that doesn't even involve Sora. Modern Kingdom Hearts is trying to take a classic fairy tale with a basic plot and trying to make it something it's not; instead of a Magic Blade to defend evil we have the Keyblade War and 50 million "Chosen One" swords...
If you want to make a "Dark" Fairy tale, go look at thousand year door. Mario RPGs been doing what KH be trying to do 10 years ago.
@@shirrenthewanderer414 1. There is a collection that has all of the games in one console. This criticism is already off to a bad start.
2. The story is not as convoluted if you're paying attention. The Keyblade is more than just a weapon that defeats evil, but also help others if it's used in the right hands. And it still does after kh2.
3. Thousand year door is riddled with flaws, my guy. Even the "dark" parts are just so minor that now even as an adult, it's not that interesting. Sure, there's a noose, body lines, and a gang war, but compare that to Kingdom Hearts where people turns into creatures when they lose their hearts. A cult leader that gaslights his own group that they have no Hearts. Children in the olden days that lose their hearts and now turned into Pokémon ripoff. And plenty more than just a Nintendo game sequel that added not much in the story or gameplay.
Omg. Ignore the person responding. They will jerk KH3 till it’s dry(which it already is fairly dry).
@@xXLunatikxXlul How about instead of insulting me, you try to argue my points here. And I am not praising KH3 here. No where did KH3 was mentioned in this conversation. And don't say I'm a KH3 jerker when you yourself are a kh2 throater that ignores the flaws of kh2.
Lol. The red person is mad because I read his comments jerking KH3 off in other threads. And never even said KH2 was my favourite, but go off girl. ❤😊
You do your rants bro :)
The newer 3D models look soulless. I wish we could go back to the original animation
kingdom hearts should've ended as a trilogy (KH1, CoM, KH2)
think if they did do that (which they originally were doing to), most would have left demanding more
Tru but they should’ve have retired the destiny island trio and did a timeskip instead of making everything after connected
@@barch118I mean... Kingdom Hearts is about connections.
@@barch118 I mean they did retire them for a bit it’s really till dream drop they come back into action
@@barch118agreed. That looks to be the direction they will eventually take once Sora’s story is inevitably laid to rest ❤
It’s just a very different day and age we live in with social media and knowing all the information about a game before it comes up. It’s kind of annoying how we live in this era now but it’s just the way things are unfortunately and nothing can change it at all.
I bought KH and KH 2 at the same time spent a week taking out kh1 than went to kh2 and than did the original com and days and birth by sleep. I actually never played coded. But I have played and beat every final mix. I let my son play the remixes.
just do what I did. Not watch a single kh3 trailer. Technically, I watched the reveal D23 trailer, but that was on the luminous engine. I was already going to buy it, so no need to watch it.
Thank you for the ponderous video. I'm excited for whatever fresh start awaits us in KH4, and I hope they can manage to narrow the scope of the story again a little bit. I think the trailers just got a bit out of hand in terms of spoilers when it came to KH3.
God be with you out there, everybody. ✝️ :)
Correct me if I'm wrong but they didn't display the fight scene from KH3 when we were in the cloud's and that's a original area that wasn't advertised in any trailer
Yep, I like the kinda videos. KH made me watch frozen and I've watched Moana half because it may be in KH4 or a future game
KH2 was the last great KH game imo. It had the perfect ending. It was the last time KH was special, unique, and mysterious.
Another KH2 fan that thinks every other KH game has to be like KH2… typical
@@NerdGeekTalk because they are correct
@@Zexx4KH2 is my favorite but no, I don’t agree with that. Every game feels special in its own right and for me personally so many great memories are tied to these games. I don’t expect a KH game to be better than 2 but I do expect them to be a great adventure and for me they always do provide something new and exciting
@@NerdGeekTalkNot necessarily, just not a downgrade.
@@Zexx41: are you talking about Final Mix or base KH2, because from what I've heard, it's more so people love the final mix version (which fair but still good point to bring up).
2: KH2 FM isn't perfect. It's really good, but not perfect. Nothing is perfect.
3: that sentiment that they should just do KH2 again is objectively bad
I remember the story being kind of messy in BBS and Re:C, but I enjoyed them as games a lot more than KH1, which I'm trying to finish so I can experience Re:CoM and KH2 for the first them.
I don't relate to this. I had Game Informer, I caught ads, had guides, etc. There was never a world in Kingdom Hearts that took me off guard while playing the game. Now, if it had come out in the 90s, I would've been lucky to even hear about the games at all... ^^;
I've been able to avoid FF7 Rebirth spoilers to this day. Will do this for KH4 as well. Looking at Square Enix's "aggressive multiplatform strategy" I bet KH4 will release on Steam alongside the consoles. FF7 Rebirth should be the last timed exclusive.
Hm, fair points and opinions, a good talk,
I guess we’ll see what will be the case from here.
When it came to the advertising of Disney worlds for KH3, the trailers ended up spoiling almost too much of the game and even the worlds. In my opinion, I feel like most of the worlds were overhyped to the point they felt underwhelming when you actually got to play it and realize just how detached from the story Sora and the gang are. This isn't speaking for EVERY world of course, places like Arendelle and such. It sucks how much of a chokehold Disney had on Frozen's world too.
On a side note, I think I would prefer to be in the dark about what worlds are coming up, even if it might be impossible marketing wise. It would be kind of silly to be upset about not knowing something when you're supposed to be experiencing the game naturally anyway. I can't say I had any "aha!" moment for any of the Kingdom Hearts worlds, but I can imagine that this element of surprise could really connect players with the world emotionally as well.
Most things chalk up to growing up, too. Now that the young gamers of Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 have grown, I think we secretly hold the expectation that these future games can provide that same exact nostalgia which will never happen as Kingdon Hearts is such a big title now. More people will want to see more and as that demand grows, it's inevitable that some trailers, information, and plot points will slip out.
I really, really love Kingdom Hearts, I just hope they learn not to overshare things because of our demands. I want a game that's truly faithful to the series, one that isn't mistranslated or littered with plot holes patched by DLCs (horrible FFXV flashbacks).
Sorry for the ramble, too, good video, John
I have a feeling that they can now essentially make dlcs for KH 4 . They can do story dlcs
Oh god, please no. One for KH3 was tolerable, but truthfully, no story DLC should be necessary and should just be in the base game.
@@imjustalittleqwerty I’m saying actual full fleshed out stories. But if we get kh5 quadratum is probably going to be dropped into the game as a reused asset which is okay
@@imjustalittleqwertyagreed. The only DLCs that have ever been of high quality standards is frankly FromSoftware DLCs. That company knows how to deliver what their community craves ❤
yea more of these kh talking piece videos would be neat to see
Jus like how svr 2011 was the last best svr game, kh2 is in the same category
You would have thought they wouldn't have completely ignored kh2s mechanics but they did and base kh3 was just insulting combat wise. Thank God the community basically harrassed them to at least improve
@@johnpantag472 Dude. You are so completely rude just for saying that the fanbase harassed the developers for improving the gameplay. You don't have to like KH3, but it's not okay to harass anyone. EVER. Plus, base KH3 was already a good game. Re:Mind just amped it up. Many people can agree with that.
@@johnpantag472true. I remember how toxic discord, twitter, Reddit, and even RUclips was during the mid-late 2010s.
As a KH fan since I was like 9, I was kinda disappointed in KH3 in my opinion. Gameplay wise, it’s amazing and I love it but the storyline was kinda bad. At least the Disney world part. It kinda felt like they put in Disney worlds just because it’s KH.
Sora was there and he was a part of the storyline in the Disney worlds. But in KH3 he was never really there. Idk that’s just me
Kingdom Hearts 4 might be the last game
Kairi was better in old KH games. She was done so dirty in KH3 and MoM. I'm not buying another KH game again.
I was more of a N64 kid, my stepdad was probably the only one in my house that even had a PS2. I had a PS1 when I was a kid, but I don't think my mom or stepdad let me have one because I destroyed my PS1 by stepping on it when I was like nine or ten. Yeah, I was a dumbass kid that would see Kingdom Hearts advertised once.
Nothings like before…
Kingdom hearts should have ended with kingdom hearts 2
I disagree. There were so many loose ends that needed to be tied up.
Agreed.
Watching trailers for new upcoming games has most DEFINITELY become a massive TURN OFF for me. knowing that we will know 95% if not 100% of every single game's content really deters me from wanting to play them entirely. It's why I just watch a maximum of 2-3 trailers. the initial reveal trailer. and maybe 1 or 2 gameplay trailers then just wait for the game to release. avoiding as much of the trailers as possible to go into the game as blind as possible.
The KH3 fans I’ve noticed are extremely toxic when anybody mentions any of the old KH games being their favourite. It’s mostly new fans, which kind of goes to show how toxic the community has become since the last 2000s.
@@xXLunatikxXlul Stop gaslighting my guy. There is no one who is doing that. I'm a longtime fan and KH1 and KH3 are my favorite games. There are even longtime fans that prefers KH3 over kh2. And they're not even toxic at all. You're just making stuff up.
I still think the way magic worked in KH1 is the best version of it, especially cure since it made a magic build more viable and Donald is too unreliable
Honestly, trailers stay showing too much!
Disney may be racist but Square delivered!
If You don't want to see the worlds get off the Internet
It doesn't work like that. 8 can't just turn off my internet for years just in case I get spoiled. Even if you don't watch the trailers someone will upload something about it. You can get spoiled even by the title or the thumbnail. I tried my best to avoid Ragnarok spoilers yet it didn't work.
