I bought an MBP M1 about 4 months ago, and it completely smokes my Intel MBP. Even apps that don't run natively and have to run through Rosetta are much faster on the M1. That's a pretty good thing when your emulator and chip runs an app faster than on a natively supported platform.
My family had tons of MacBooks from 2015 that we never upgraded until we got the 2022 M2 MacBook Airs. It's amazing that they're way thinner, cooler in temp, and faster. The Intel MacBooks overheat way too much.
Then you've seen nothing. Go watch his apple vs adobe, it is the smoothest transition ever. You'd feel like whole apple vs adobe is due to squarespace.
My only complaint is, they took 6 years to update the MacMini, finally put it out with the i3/i5/i7, and then about a year later they released the Mini with the M1… if I had known I would have waited for the M1… the i5 I have runs hot for reasons I can’t figure out, and there’s a huge fan inside (I know since I did the memory upgrade myself.)
Another thing: QA "Apple became the number-one filer of problems with the [Skylake] architecture," said François Piednoël, a former Intel engineer. Apple released the first MacBook with Skylake in 2016, the same year where Intel announced their three year cycle mentioned in the video. Just four years later, Apple developed their own desktop processor and accompanied it with software support to ease the transition. That's quite a feat.
Just wait till the M1X with 8 high performance cores and 16 GPU cores arrives later in 2021. Properly optimized, it might be even be able to run "AAA" games at full screen resolution and at reasonably high frame rates.
They should have a dedicated gaming mode on macs where the processor is not power limited (only thermal limitations) That would be great for anyone wanting to game on the go
@@99Teutons I don't think they need that because the M1's performance per watt is so amazing that performance doesn't drop when running on battery. There are so many comparison videos on RUclips where they put the M1 mac's against its competitors like Razerblade for example and found out that not only does the M1 Mac beat those machines significantly when on power but if they were to take off the power for both the devices the performance drops by a huge level for those laptops even when they are on high performance mode while the Macs stay consistent off power supply. Considering that the 16" Macbook Pros come with an 100 watt-hour battery which should easily be able to power that M1x processor and maintain its super high performance on the go.
Careful. The Intel ads with Justin Long harken back to the Mac vs. PC ads that Apple released back in the day. Apple’s ads were full of untruths too, like how Macs supposedly offered fun and creativity whereas PCs offered pie charts and spreadsheets (show that ad to any gamer-then or now-and they’d think you were crazy to suggest a Mac for gaming). 1:21. That is so not true. What happened is that Intel and AMD got embroiled in a CPU war, and that war GREATLY accelerated the evolution of the x86 architecture. Which took x86 from being the budget option, to being more powerful than any other CPU platform on earth. Faster than the PPC stuff, faster than Spark, faster than anything else out there. Also, this x86 war not only was improving x86 at an incredible pace, but it was driving down prices, and it was benefitting from HUGE economies of scale as computers went mainstream on the x86 platform. Apple on the other hand was the world's largest PPC consumer, and yet they were merely a bit player at that time, not nearly large enough to fund development of the PPC platform against the entire x86 industry. So Motorola, not making the profits required to continue investing into the PPC, couldn't come up with a credible successor for the G4 series. This left Apple casting about for a replacement. Ultimately Apple approached IBM about producing a chip, which IBM did. They decided to turn to their big iron series of CPUs and take the POWER4 and strip it down to produce the 970 (they also added Motorola's SIMD unit from the G4), which Apple branded the G5. The G5 was a reasonably impressive chip at the time (at that very moment in time it was released), and Apple and IBM thought they'd have no problem scaling it to keep up with the x86 war which was still raging on. Microsoft is trying to do the same thing with the SQ1 & SQ2. After Microsoft gets windows and a X86 to ARM compiler sorted out Intel will be done. You’ll start to see laptops half the price but equal the power of the intel counterparts.
But what about the thunderbolt and the wifi? They are made by Intel. Btw I am not an Intel fanboy. I just asked whether Intel can still do some business with their thunderbolt and wifi.
We need to make "WiFi" by ourselves so that we don't need to use the wifi made by Intel. As well as we need to make the "thunderbolt" usb c port by ourselves so that we don't have to use intel's thunderbolt usb c port.
Apple and intel go back much further. Robert Noyce was a mentor to Jobs early in his career. And Jobs was inspired by Noyce to run his business the way he did. You could say that Jobs continued with Apple, what Noyce had started with Intel.

Hey, where did you get the background music from? I really like it, and would like to be able to listen to it.
I literally got that ad right before the vid
Yay I finally made it! Anyways great video as always!
What's the background music (piano) you use in this video and other videos?
I'll guess I'll buy a PC
Running an AMD Ryzen CPU
welcome to team RED
Lol
Ok I’ll tell a story. I was looking to but a Ryzen 9 3900x and an RTX 3060. I count boy find either of those in stock on their respective websites. Then I go to EBay and Amazon(which didn’t have any stock either) to find that it would cost me $3000 in total because of the scalpers. Let that sink in...
@@tanishparmeetbiswas intel invented wifi? Lol no way
@@ptrckwyn I mean they didn't invent but they make wifi cards like wifi 6 and their wifi cards are good (except the processors).
We need to make "WiFi" by ourselves so that we don't need to use the wifi made by Intel. As well as we need to make the "thunderbolt" usb c port by ourselves so that we don't have to use intel's thunderbolt usb c port.
@@tanishparmeetbiswas qualcomm is one of the top contributors to the wifi 6 technology together with huawei and intel. So it's not a problem 😉
This song always gives me feels
It's funny to see these ads now which I never saw as they could never use these here in Germany. :D
SpaceX also use Mac and iPads during launch and flight.
Cause they're more reliable products. I know this cause I've tried both PCs and macBooks lmao.
Apple’s official reseller in my country sells modified MacBooks with intel processors, though.
Apple and intel go back much further. Robert Noyce was a mentor to Jobs early in his career. And Jobs was inspired by Noyce to run his business the way he did. You could say that Jobs continued with Apple, what Noyce had started with Intel.
You should do a tech explained channel
Intel: Go PC
Apple: Well you guys are already buying M1 Macs, what should we say?
Anybody going PC is going AMD unless they’re an Intel shill, so Intel’s “Go PC” is still screwing them over
maybe thats why they havent made any ads for it since
Intel: Look PCs have touchscreens, multi-monitor support, better gaming, 2-in-1s, dualscreens.
Me: So why are YOU saying that, you don’t make those features, you make the chips that run them which are quite garbage
I got the mac guy ad on this vid lol
Literally got that intel ad before watching this video
Love your videos, seriously. But I've gotta say, I really don't like the sappy piano music you've been using recently. Your videos are usually upbeat and fun to watch back-to-back, but with the new music they can get kind of depressing after a binge.
intel makes HOT processors
Bruh I got the intel ad with the Mac guy before this video
Companies: *evolve *
Intel: *Wait, that's illegal*
I work for Tamminadu Brahmin company and in there, evolve is hated, because "e" is involved LOL
LOL when apple said no more intel but more M1
Even hater gotta agree that the m1 chips ( that btw are replacing i3!) Are amazing values that out preform there far more expensive i7 counter parts.
Meanwhile intel: you know what an i9 11900k is lacking, a higher price with less cores.
I5 was the only good processor from that lineup
