That rhythm tone was crazy accurate to the record. Andy's ability to match the right pedal tone to the right song is (almost) as impressive as his playing.
Love this pedal. I run it Clean only into my head for the honked out Iommi, May and Ronson tones. For that alone it’s worth the price. I used every treble booster on earth and they’re all inherently noisy. This pedal is incredibly quiet. LOVE IT.
Everything that Andy touches sounds amazing, and makes me want to buy it. Not just an unbelievable guitarist, but also a great salesperson at the same time haha
@@ProGuitarShopDemos Oh definitely, man. I say salesman because every video you've done just makes me want to buy every single thing you test haha. Thanks for the inspiration, man, and I look forward to your next videos!
If you don't know, Josh Homme used a Maestro MPF1. Stoned Deaf began their company by doing a copy of this pedal that was the first version of the pedal showcased here. These guys must be real hardcore QOTSA fans ! :)
Thanks tockusa, these are not for the faint hearted...these are proper tone shaping studio EQ's with distortion. The Trashy Blonde as a completely different flavour for people wondering as well.
I have a issue when I connect my PDF2 pedal to my pedal chain. When I'm playing and I change pedals, after a while my Big Muff and Rothwell Hellbender pedals stop playing. If I take the PDF2 out of the pedal chain, my other pedals work fine.
Xavier von Buchwald how was the pedal? I’m looking for a OD/EQ to take the brunt of my general tone shaping and dirt sounds, and since I’m a big of Queens I figured this is one to consider?
Andys ability to make mediocre pedals sound great really is not the pedal is it?...I could build a pedal made of shit and throw some electronics in it...and he would play the shit right out of it...and people comment, 'That piece of shit pedal is amazing, take me money now mate!!'..You rock Andy!!!
jfrockon It’s a good song, “The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret” by Queens of the Stone Age. If you liked that bit you should definitely check them out! Stoner/desert rock goodness.
ProGuitarShopDemos - where do you guys get the awesome backing tracks (drum+bass)? Someone's surely asked this before but it's hard searching through the comments. Thank you in advance.
My friend's PDF-2 stopped working one day when we were jamming. No sound signal comes through the pedal and we can't figure out why because the lights still come on so power is coming through.
StoneDeaf make great pedals. I really wanna get my hands on several of them. Andy! How often do you change pedalboard? Its gotta be at least twice a day...cheers!
Hey great tones! However, there's something puzzling me... everybody seems to think Josh Homme was using the pdf 1x on riffs from "songs for the deaf" or "lullabies to paralyze"... however, the pedal did not even exist until aroun 2009 as far as I read from stone Deaf, so how is that possible? Did he use the Maestro Parametric Filter and then replaced it with the PDF once it came out? Or did he just use different pedals...
I Cubed Sales and Consulting Josh used to use the original Maestro version of these, and he now uses the Stone Deaf version on his board. He was actually one of the first people to start using them.
It has a gain control which will act as a volume boost in Clean mode. If you want a traditional Master Volume, I'd look at their PDF-1X which has a Volume and the Gain moved to a trimpot inside. Thanks, Andy ruclips.net/video/a-4dCgkR8Cs/видео.html
I don't really get why there isn't a volume and gain control on the front. The 1x has volume on the front and gain inside as a trim pot, 2 has gain outside and volume inside. Makes it hard to choose one over the other. If they ever make a PDF-3 with both controls outside, it'd be an instant buy.
I’m so confused. How did you get the vibe-like effect? Did you have a phaser in the chain? You weren’t pumping the expression pedal for every undulation, were you?
Nope. Theirs is huge and bulky, like an old Morley, but heavier. It's the only one that works, and it's expensive for an expression pedal. It does eliminate the need for a Wah and Phaser, though.
@@markferguson3745 Yeah I have both now. Strung JHS Sweet Tea > SD Fig Fumb > SD PDF-1x > Analogman modded Ge-7 on my board, wonderful gain stage sequence.
the dirty channel should be higher in volume. if this is not the case, open the pedal and check if the 9V battery needs replacement. I found out that the dirt channel doesn't work properly if the battery is empty, even if the pedal is plugged in. So remove the 9V battery if you don't use it.
so there's no battery inside? did you check? Removing it made it better for me.... but I know that the clean channel cuts better through the mix while the dirt channel just drowns in lots of gain without enough volume... I think stone deaf audio messed up with this pedal... I texted them about the problem: never got an answer.... they take our money and run :-)
This is probably a dumb question but what tuning is being used in the first part of your video? I really dig the Queens of the Stone Age sound but I'm a beginner and can't tell what it is?
Iggy Lueck in case you haven’t found out online yet (the comments a couple weeks old), Queens used to play in C standard quite a lot, and sometimes still do for the more recent stuff. Bare in mind you might want thicker strings/your guitar set up to be played in C standard since it’s quite a dramatic drop from E standard. Hope that helps!
When did they change to a foot-switchable clean/dirty? I watched a Burgs demo of this unit, which featured a single foot-switch and a toggle for clean/dirty.
Except he played The Lost Art Of Keeping a Secret from _Rated R_ 😂 For Songs it's gonna take some extra effort I'm afraid, although for home use this might be fine.
"The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret". If you're looking to get into QOTSA, I would recommend pretty much any song off their album Rated R. It's a desert rock classic!
Just get the Trashy Blonde. Much more useful. Just make sure you get the expression pedal for any of these Stone Deaf effects, otherwise it's pointless.
Recall when pedals were $49? Electro Harmonix still sells several hand made (in the US) pedals for 60-85. Several modern boutique pedals look like more money is spend on the artwork than the electronics. And that aspect is only catering to the bedroom players who can keep 'em clean.
Electro harmonix says made in China on the inside of the pedals when you open them. Chinese parts, maybe assembled in the US. Recall when they were 49? Yes,but the cost of everything goes up,what was the price for a loaf of bread or even a good guitar when pedals were 49? And a lot of the money of those higher end pedals goes into the research . Take Strymon, they cost way more than 179 but worth every penny .
That rhythm tone was crazy accurate to the record. Andy's ability to match the right pedal tone to the right song is (almost) as impressive as his playing.
Yeah it is a replica/extension of the Maestro PDF which Josh used on Rated R.
Whatever you dooooo, don't tell anyone about this pedal
No really, they're hard enough to get as it is! Stone Deaf is a small company so they're often sold out or on backorder on reverb and other sites.

This might literally be the best pedal I've ever heard. Holy shit 😳 it's just so musical and the possibilities are endless.
Glad you enjoyed it, EQ has been an underdog for a long time but it's really powerful, especially when distortion is involved!
Sounds like this would be great for a cover of Zep's No Quarter.
I knew it would be qotsa before I even clicked on the vid!
I know right!?!?! I saw distortion and was like, yeah, anything heavy's gonna be QOTSA with Andy haha

Geez Andy busts out QOTSA and I bust out my wallet. This sounds excellent.
Best current production pedals out there. Proper tone shapers for pro's. Miss my pdf1.

My understanding is any parametric eq works
It replaced the maestro. He had been using the maestro since 2000 / Rated R era onward.

how good is this pedal without the expression pedal? is it mando?
Early-aughts Dylan Moran (the guy doing the video) is right, this pedal is swell. Bought it and was watching this while I waited.

How does this pedal sound in front of a high-gain amp? Could you use it as an "Always-On" OD and than a huge lead tone?
I use one with an Orange TH30. It works really well.
