Josh Homme used the Maestro MPF-1 all over Rated R, which is a vintage pedal that this one is based on. Basically an upgraded and more versatile version of that pedal.
Hi Stone Deaf, I have searched the ep-1 but I realized its not available in any store. Is it possible to connect another expression pedal to sound like the video?
Hey great tones! However, there's something puzzling me... everybody seems to think Josh Homme was using the pdf 1x on riffs from "songs for the deaf" or "lullabies to paralyze"... however, the pedal did not even exist until aroun 2009 as far as I read from stone Deaf, so how is that possible? Did he use the Maestro Parametric Filter and then replaced it with the PDF once it came out? Or did he just use different pedals...
Hi and thanks for the question... so, here it goes; Josh DID use the Maestro which he then replaced with the original PDF1. He got a PDF2 from us later down the line via his guitar tech. We have seen use of PDF1X and PDF2's in studio shots from various albums. But to answer the question, the original PDF1 replaced the Maestro and was used on his pedal board at every major live show since. We've seen him use the PDF2 on top of his amp too in photos posted by fans (including TCV). He got the original PDF1 back in 2009 and has serial number 001 - FYI, there is secret writing written in UV ink on the first 20 original PDF1's so if you have one, grab a UV light and take a look! Following this, Stone Deaf Effects Ltd officially started business in 2010. Josh Homme was our first customer and McBess was our second... Not bad! Luke (Stone Deaf Owner) met him at Leeds Festival in 2010. Bit of a history lesson there but hope that answers your question! Cheers and stay in touch, Ben
Hi Stone Deaf i recently purchased this pedal new from Thomann and I can’t seem to get any gain out of the clean channel at all, gain knob seems like it does nothing. Whats up
Hi their is no gain on the clean channel. Its just clean EQ. Only effects the gain channel the gain knob. The pops are like a normal switch does. Its a break and make as its switching contacts. Its a set and forget feature. Set the bandwidth to the desired Q and leave it until you want to change it basically.
PDF2 + overdrive + fuzz. Can this combination sound good? I am from Brazil, so I need to be very sure if this pedal meets my needs since it is expensive to import.
Douglas Roberto da Costa greetings to you in Brazil! I just got one of these yesterday -- my first impression is, it overpowers most pedals with volume when it's at full drive. You notice it doesn't actually have a "volume" knob, so the drive actually serves that purpose. So far all I've done is try to drive other pedals with this, and here's how it went: OCD was swallowed up from this thing's output, and not in a good way. Deluxe Big Muff gets hit with this and sounds like molten lava, in a wonderful way. Again, I'm only beginning to experiment, but my first impression is that, for other drive related pedals to love in the same environment with this pedal, they'll have to have a capability for a high amount of volume all on their own, otherwise they actually choke this thing's level down, even when they're maxed out. I'll now have to put it in other parts of the chain to see how it works after these two pedals, but this was my first impression. I will say this, though -- this pedal sounds magnificent, so it's not going anywhere 😊
Clay Campbell Got it. My intention was to put him along with a low gain overderive and a Deep Trip Hellbender to take my sound. Perhaps replacing the overdrive with a high gain or a distortion is better to keep the PDF-2 at its best? Or just the PDF-2 with the fuzz?
Douglas Roberto da Costa I'm really leaning toward putting the PDF after other drives (possibly with the exception of the Muff) to see if they play a little nicer. I like to have a variety of drives so each can be used on its own for different textures, or together for brute force. I found that two of my drives (coming after PDF, anyway -- still need time to experiment) can't compete with this thing's output, so they'd be useless as individuals since all my volume would drop through the floor during those passages where the PDF is disengaged. Since the PDF's drive is essentially its volume control, it might be possible that feeding other drives into it with its volume/drive lowered a bit may still result in what I'm looking for; I hate to feel like I need to lower the drive on this thing to accommodate everything else, but it will probably still roar, even with its drive turned down a bit, if it's being fed by another drive. I'd say by tonight I will have had a chance to swap things around a bit and see how everything reacts -- I'll report back to you once I've got a better idea..
Maybe putting it before other drives can be a good one, using it as a boost (In clean and dirty channel). Now, as the main drive I don't know. Only you testing. Maybe a high-gain fuzz, like Earthquaker's Terminal or Erupter can match its volume.
Douglas Roberto da Costa hey man, sorry for delayed response. I've figured out this thing definitely likes being the last in line of drive/boost related stuff; its output is so brutal that even with other pedals' volume maxed, many of them actually bring everything down once they're engaged. With those other pedals feeding this thing, it takes what they're giving and enhances it in an incredibly organic way. Definitely a keeper!
Sounds killer! Kind of like a Muff with a drained battery. Or the Rated R album from QOTSA

Was just about to type that, the opening bit is very QOTSA
Everyone's thinking: Queens of the Stone Age
It's inspired by them
The range on this thing is incredible. So impressed
I love this pedal almost all the way - if it had a volume knob....
the red on that guitar beautifull
I skipped this video at first to look for Rabea's take on the pedal. Little did I know...
Could you imagine that thing stacked like 6 times on a track? Jesus Christ 🔥🔥🔥
the volume of the clean and dirty channels are on the same level? or in the dirty there is a volume cut?thanks
We are messing with the volumes in this video both cut and boosted.
Aaand I'm getting me one of these. Diggin the funky accented playing bea
Really want to hear this on that Sensei RA
Haven't I seen this guy in anderton's videos? Also, I'm totally getting one of these. They are pretty hard to find in the US which is surprising.
drile00l Yep! He’s a co-host on the “busting the bank” series on Andertons TV. Good series and great player.
I need this in my life.

@@carlosamaris9114 hi we only sell direct now and you can buy them on pre-order. Will take approx 2-4 weeks to ship after that. No others work. Sorry
hows stacking fuzz with this pedal?
Samizsm this thing has all the fuzz you’ll need 😂
It’s fantastic. I put the Thorpyfx Fallout Cloud before it, and it’s sonic heaven.
Ich have a foxx FuzzWhaVolume and a fulltone ocd in front of it, filter always on. Doesn't get more JMH than this.
it's a very impressive pedal, it would be complete if it had the volume knob

PDF-1X
@@lukehilton8225 that's it, I'm going to change it to pdf1x

Brilliant playing! Chawk-chawk !..!,
Awesome! Can this expression pedal be used with other brands of pedals, like Moog MiniFoogers? :)
No
No it will blow up and kill everyone in a five mile radius, leaving the grounds surrounding infertile for a hundred thousand years

Yay it’s Rah-beer!
The link in the description doesn't work, and I can't find this pedal on any website. Help a brother out. Where can I get one?
I make a maestro mpf clone that I stack a big muff circuit in front of!
Awesome! Thnak you!
When you enter hell, this is what will be playing.
Could it do some tighter metal stuff or is it strictly stoner? I was pretty interested after watching some vids.

How do the notes sustain?
Absolutely great Carmen. Not like the Kliptonite.
Although the most sustaining pedals are the Warp Drive and the Fig Fumb.
Rabea, Tell these guys to quit robbing us with their ball busting high prices!
Why?
Because I want a pedal or two and I cant afford them! : )
I luv this desert rock ^^ .
Wow
This is somewhat painful for a hangover...
mabea rassaad
Mine broke
Hi Jeremie, sorry to hear that. Where did you replace it from? We will replace it for you. Contact us via our website or your dealer?
Not a very good demo imo - I have this pedal and it sounds a million times better than this wasp-in-jam-jar tone.
