@@AndyDemos Just received my PDF 1X about 10 minutes ago. My QOTSA tribute will be playing Headache with the cool live outro at our show this saturday night! Check us out Andy! facebook.com/A-Song-For-The-Deaf-a-tribute-to-Queens-of-the-Stone-Age-2185031501753234
I've had the 1x since release, and used the 2 before that. Obtaining the" proprietary "SD expression pedal took more doing, as Covid had jammed up their production.Gotta say, the exp pedal works fine, but is a beast -, very heavy design, that requires some serious adjustments to allow smooth operation. It is designed more like an industrial power tool than a pedal, and I even considered re housing the whole thing in something similar. As always, the PDF is pretty cool as an "always on" clean boost, which I place after Drives and Fuzzes; ( could easily go up front , to add more gain, as well)the Ix can be adjusted from clean to Ratty Fuzz internally,-which is an improvement- it's a quality piece, nice components & build , nasty, lovely, sweep. Whether or not this is your thing depends on if you're ok with the ungainly, bulky pairing; the good part is that you could park a car on them, and just have to replace the plastic knobs. You like the " Rat Fink/ Rod" styling, or you don't,- I think SD is unique and cool, personally.Eventually , will prob add the notorious Tremotron , and maybe one of the Fuzzes. It's still a useful effect without exp control, but it does eliminate the need for manual operation, and replaces Wah if you use one. Peace.
Best comment I've read about this pedal. You've essentially written a perfect little review. I have the 1X and you're not kidding about that expression pedal. It's like a skateboard fused to a power sander. It's worth it to me, but the pedal is excellent as a standalone unit. Cheers.
Sweet Ibanez Musician bass, one of my best friends had one of those and the neck and fretboard on that thing is my favorite of all time. I had a 78 musician 6 string myself.
Basically this pedal in conjunction with a Keeley Fuzzbender and maybe an eq pedal would be the great tonal options ever? Fuzz drive and clean and boost.
I bought the original CATALINBREAD SFT after watching a Queens demo of yours about 4 or 5 years ago. That StoneDeaf really allows a ton of sculpting options that sound even more like Josh's actual gear? It's exactly what I'm going to irresponsibly buy next.
I did it with the actual Ampeg VT-40 he used. Found one local for $350 and they go for $1.2k. Just saw it as an expensive pedal purchase on the amp lol. It is a loud crazy amp that gets 80% there, just need a TB boost pedal and this! 300hz boost on the amp or an EQ. But the SFT pedal after this will do it as well. It had all the tones! Mistake on this pedal, many think the distortion on this will do it…it’s the EQ and boost being used. I don’t even use the distortion, reason I went with this version with master volume to boost the amp! May still add an SFT pedal if I don’t want to gig two amps.
I have one and it’s paired with a Ampeg VT-40. Found the pedal for $160 and the amp only for $350! Talk about a steal like back in the 90s! It’s a great combo with any of the VT amps.
@@AndyDemos I actual bought the amp last week at that price…had a story to go with it. But let’s just say it ended up with me for $350. It felt like the 90s getting such a deal! I don’t even use the distortion on this pedal, it’s the EQ and clean boost. The amp cranked up is the sound, then pedals to EQ with very low gain settings I found. But yeah, it was one of those freak out moments, when I got word locally of the amp and went to buy it for that price. I’ve spent more on a single pedal, than the amp itself. It’s a great amp for heavy stuff on its own just cranked. I pair it with a Sky King as my clean, and kick the Ampeg on for the punch up! I’m still shocked, and in over a week now….probably have played it countless hours at window shattering levels 😆
McBais with the awesome art once again. If you guys haven’t already I recommend giving him a listen! Real sick music. His band The Dead Pirates have a really heavy Qotsa inspired sound too!
I just got my hands on one of these beauties after watching this demo. I’m getting some great Mick Ronson like tones - a guitarist whose base sound was built around the cocked wah.
I like how he used his foot to dial the height knob. I used to do this exactly by replacing the tiny knob of a Phase 90 with an old, ugly, unsightly Sankyo stereo receiver knob to swing from slight sweep to seizure inducing washy evilness.. Did I use the word "knob" enough?
I bought the PDF2 after hearing this, and it sounds ah mazing! I stack it with the Thorpyfx Fallout Cloud and it has a tremendous amount of body for doom metal/stoner rock.
This is so great - great pedal, and a great demo, as usual. I didn't miss that they sent you pedal #1. If I could ever come up with an amazing pedal, I'd also send #1 to Andy!
Re Electric Funeral, I have a rosewood boarded Tokai Tele, MIC rather than MIJ. I had it tweaked with US pots and switch, brass saddles and a set of P90 voiced standard Tele sized single coils. I found myself playing a lot of Sabbath on it, it just seemed to really work, glad I'm not alone.
Watched this for 30 seconds and bought it to replace my version 1. I bought the version 2 but found it unusable- the overall volume jump not just the Height volume was too dramatic. The added master volume on this is the clincher.
I think I lost my headache!!! Andy played this song in a different fuzz video, does anyone remember which? I think Catalinbread SVT? Andy can you confirm?
Was the germanium fuzz before or after the PDX-1X? I've been experimenting with mine and so far it sounds great with other fuzz and dirt pedals just before it in the signal chain.
The fuzz was first! Yes, the PDF is able to stretch out more when it’s after any other gain stages. A boost in low end, for example, stays intact vs getting clipped or compressed by any dirt placed after the PDF. Glad you’re enjoying it!
i wish Andy would tell us what pickups are in the guitars he uses in demos. The Hagstrom Super Swede has some kind of RailHammers in them, I believe they are the "Chisel" versions.
oh okay, yes, they are Chisels, I dig them in that Swede. I dont have them, but I do have the Corgan Railammer P90 Humcutters in a 2019 USA Fender Professional Tele and they are a fuzz pedals dream. The pups themselves actually remind me of a fuzz pedal when going straight into a very dirty amp. I think Corgan told the Railhammer guys to make his pups sound like a Big Muff, lol. FWIW, You gave me hope as a "finger player". I always had a "complex" for not being comfortable with a pick. I always wondered if I was selling myself short. I can just do so much more at once with my fingers, faster... Anyway, your videos have given me tons more confidence. Thank you.
Everybody doing the expression pedal route... are we supposed to bring 9 expression pedals to use all of these? Otherwise you're playing a handicapped version...
Hi Andy... I know this is long shot of a question, but do you know the exact type of Railhammer pickups you have in that Hagstrom during the opening song? At least they look like Rail Hammers. I have been digging into their pickup designs a lot lately and love the concept. Great review, as always!
Did Andy Divorce Reverb? He used to be Andy AtProGuitatShop. Then he remarried after the proper period of morning and he was Andy AtReverb. But I just saw he changed his name to Andy Demos. I think he got a divorce.
No Nick Andy and Reverb are still very strong. Andy started his own channel so he could do vids Reverb wasnt into . His gear, vintage comparisons , guitars, amps , new and obscure pedals . Just time he had his own channel skys the limit. Enjoy them both.
I bought a Tremotron after seeing Andy’s demo of it, but I have to say, Stone Deaf’s customer service is absolutely horrible. The pedals are definitely cool, but not worth the hassle when they quit working and you need to get in touch with someone.
It's simple: I hear Andy play Qotsa, I click the thumbs up button.
whats the title?
@@hanifffarhan5678 The song is: "I think I lost my headache", from "Rated R".

I love the way Andy loves qotsa ❤️
I can't blame him. Favourite band for the last 22 years
I could listen to Andy play all day.
Oh wait, I kinda do.
Love your playing, Andy!
Stone Deaf pedals always seem to marry so well with Andy’s style
I have that same Picard shirt. Obviously, Andy is a man of refinement and distinction.

Awesome demo, the chosen riffs were spot on. 8:27 gets really close to Robin Trower territory, I love this thing !
HELL YES! Andy covering QOTSA!
I like those Railhammers in the Hagstrom. Lot more clarity.
Wells306 Yea, I thought it was a perfect fit, since it’s always tuned to C or C#. Can’t recommend the Railhammers enough!
That Sabbath tone @ 5:46

AndyDemos I remember you used it for the Mojo Hand Colossus Fuzz years ago at PGS. I remember because I immediately bought one! Still have it. 🎸🎸🎸
The Hagstrom Swede is a beautiful looking guitar. Surely Andy's is a few steps up from the sub £500 one?
The older models were excellent and cheap .Now they're inconsistent, like everything else made overseas,-

AHAHAHAHAH! Darmok & Jalad at Tanagra tour shirt!!!
It’s obvious when Andy is having a good time with a pedal. Great demo!
