Clear plastic did not exist in WWI.

    • @TheRestorer

      Why?

@@TheRestorer Plexi-glass was not patented until 1933. There were earlier clear plastics but considering the age of the cigarette lighter, the base should have long since discoloured. If you have ever seen the windscreen of a really old car, one with "safety glass," you would have noted the discolouration on the edges caused by deteriorating sheet plastic in a sandwich made of two same-size glass panes.

A really nice lighter and a nice result. But there is one thing. I can see no reason why you didn't unscrew the bottom of the lighter from its socket. Better for polishing the lighters bottom and a chance to polish the clear plastic socket. It is just my opinion. But all in all very well done.

There is a certain satisfaction in doing this kind of work that can't be described in words. I never would have considered doing this, although I do restore treadle sewing machine parts others give up on. I might give things such as this a second look in the future. Thank you

This guy DOES NOT RESTORE ANYTHING... HE TAKES A CLEAN ITEM AND COOKS SUGAR AND DIRT ONTO IT, HE DOESNT EVEN HAVE TO CLEAN IT BECAUSE HE JUST SHIWS WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE. EFOR HE COVERED IT IN FAKE RUST.. ALL HIS ITEMS ARE BRASS.. BRASS DOESNT RUST!

You put the flint spring in upside down! And why did you buff it after you filled it with lighter fluid, seems backwards!
