- Very rusty trench lighter restoration. I found this rusty lighter in the woods on a WWI battlefield. Perhaps lighter belonged to a soldier of the Austro-Hungarian or German army. The lighter was very rusty. I decided to restore lighter. I removed the rust and cleaned the lighter. I hope you liked my restoration.

Great job, things like that should be restored, it would have been treasured by it's owner years ago, and it's capable of working for years to come.

I figure you might as if more info becomes available, you can pin point who was in the area, thus giving you a better idea about who would use this type of lighter...Again, would you consider putting your restorations on rotation? imho, they should be used & seen...😊 many thanks!
Дещо дивне в конструкції ціеї запальнички те, що скоба мала б бути у пазі саме коли зачинено її фітіль... Але вона одразу була зроблена інакше, тому і виправляти було не можна цю дивну особливість...

Технология нарушена. После чистки зубной щеткой, необходимо почистить грубой губкой для посуды, кислотой, металлической щеткой , болгаркой , на моторном шлифовальном диске и только потом шкуркой. Лучше в список добавить еще электролиз еще пару минут плюс.

If that's brass I thought brass doesn't rust. Not meant as a criticism it was obvious it needed restoration and I'm sure some parts were made from steel buy why was the body corroded like that was it left outside or found outside I should say.
Brass and bronze also corrode. Just like copper... It just takes longer. Remember how dark copper coins...

Trench lighters were usually made by the soldiers. From gun casings and scavenged parts during the long wait they must have endured between attacks or while behind in the second or third line.

That had to be one of the more impressive Restorations I've seen on RUclips considering how extremely poor the condition of it was to begin with. Really nice work!
Why would you sand all those beautiful pits off? You erased the history of the item and came out with a worse looking lighter. I'd have left the pitted surface and just polished it for a beautiful contrast and preserved that age.
