Same problem. Here is what I did to resolve the issue. I paid 90$ for complete diagnosis at a Honda Service Center. They found faulty starter. Total Quote was 600$ for starter+299$ for labor. Estimate was ~950$. I took the part number from them and ordered a brand new starter from Geniune honda parts that cost me 275$. Then for the installation, i went back to Honda service center. Installation cost was 200$ as they deducted the 90$ I paid for the diagnosis. So overall repair cost was around 575$ which was way better than paying 950$. The issue has been resolved and I have driven the car after repair for another 100 miles. No trouble starting at all. Honda has a faulty starters in 2013,2014,2015 series. They are fully aware of that but will never accept or recall. This will be my last Honda car. PS: Starters are not covered under powertrain warranty. Don't waste your time.

You can take your vehicle to a DIY type of store like O’Reilly Auto Parts or Autozone and they will test your battery, starter and alternator for free.

According to this video, if they replaced the starter, it was the starter that was bad, not the push button start. I have a 2006 Acura and just had to have the starter replaced at 84,000 miles, which was way too soon in terms of mileage (mine was standard key start). It cost me $250 for a new starter, over $300 for the labor. But I did get a 24/24 warranty on the labor and lifetime on the starter. I checked out this video because the mechanic who fixed mine said he replaces a lot of starters on Hondas.

I had a similar problem with a 2015 Honda Civic. Push start engine button dash lit up, single click sound and the engine wouldn't start. I checked fuses and relays and they were in good working condition. The mechanic recommended switching out the battery and alternator. It worked for a couple weeks and I got back to square one. I cleaned the push engine button and worked for a couple days then same issue. I checked the brake switch underneath the dash and noticed the push pin was not working correctly. Autozone part only $12.99 Duralast Stoplight Switch SW9720. So far no issues. My last resort is the starter. Thanks for uploading the video.

My friend's 2015 CRV (50k miles) had the same issue. I suspect it's an issue with the battery. Because, we were able to jump it start it, ever single time, easily. When jumping start the car,, the starter crank very easily, and engine start right up on 1st attempt, every single time.
    So My assumption is that:
    1. the factory battery is not powerful to crank the 2.4 Motor.
    2. The battery management system is at fault, causing the battery not getting enough juice. In plain English, it''s not getting recharged. Note that , car battery life will be shortened if they stay "starving" mode.
    Possible solution:
    1. get a bigger battery that will fit in your car.
    2. get a emergency battery jumper and keep it in your car. So you don't get strangled on the road.
    3. Charge your battery everyday(manually) with a car battery maintenance charger, the one that plugged into wall.
    Diagnose Tools:
    1. Monitor your Battery voltage. You can use a multi-meter to measure battery voltage, or you can buy "12V USB charger with voltage monitor". It plugs into the 12V socket and displays real time voltage. Shut off the engine, If your battery voltage is below 12.5V. it's not fully charged. Start the Engine, the voltage should be above 13.5V. If not, there is a problem with the charging system.
    2. There is a battery sensor recall on 9th gen accords. I suspect it could of be the cause. Don't count on me. Get the sensor fixed. Honda says It's a fire fire hazard.

Sometimes the regular keys have the same problem. If the computer system in the car doesn't recognize the key that's in the ignition, then it probably won't start.

I had similar problem (at 67,000 Km.) with my 2014 Accord. Dealer fixed by replacing with a new starter (luckily, I had an extended warranty and it was covered). But now I have a new problem, the green LED indicator of the starter switch doesn't turn on. I could also see in your clip (at 2:43) your green LED is not turning on. Does it mean that new starter will make the LED disabled ?

I'm wondering why this isn't some sort of recall, because shouldn't a starter last longer than that?

128k miles really isn't a lot of miles in a car, especially Hondas. Nowadays, 250k is considered something like the new 100k miles. Most cars built today are designed to last at least up to 300k miles if they're taken care of properly, which the majority of people do not do.

Excellent video, Very explained, I will share my experience because, I been suffering with the same issue with my starter and I replaced with the Bosch SR1355x that I just replaced few hours ago in a 2014 honda accord EXL, CVT automatic, 2.4L engine. With only 40k, One owner. The sound of the Bosch starter when crank is not normal (BEWARE). Yes the car crank but make noise like the pinion material is grinding the flex plate, for me look like the material is cheap in the Bosch and can damage the flex plate in the transmission soon, which will be cost over $1000 work if you damage the flex plate because now you have bring down the transmission. My OEM Mitsuba SM-74009 was super smooth when starting (typical honda starter sound) but the Bosch definitely is more metallic sound like blending metals. I WILL NOT RECOMMEND TO BUY REMANUFACTURED BOSCH AS YOUR AFTERMARKET CHOICE FOR 2013-2106 HONDA STARTER. FRUSTRATED DOUBLE JOB AND DOUBLE HEADACHE IN RETURN AND WILL GET BACK TO OEM (COST MORE BUT YOU GET QUALITY AND PEACE OF MIND). Thanks for you video this is nothing personal is just trying to help people to avoid future inconvenience.

Tip for anyone with the button start style, not supposed to hold down button long time like demonstrated here. Hold button start down short and quick, just like turning a key 🔑 style over, you don’t keep the key turned over long as that will cause the starter to keep grinding on the flywheel.

I assume starters are in cars with push button starts. I have intermittent start issues where the car doesn't start but if I remove the key and restart the car, the car starts. Since my car still uses a key to start the car, I would assume this may be an ignition switch issue and not a starter issue. Any ideas?

I have a 2013 Honda Accord EX. It has the same problem!! I changed the battery, the starter, the alternator and even put in new spark plugs...but the problem still persists!! The stalling/not starting is very random. The most recent incident happens this past weekend when I stopped to pump gas at a local Sam's Club. After finished pumping the gas, the vehicle wouldn't start, and stall there at the pump for a long time until I got help to push it to a parking space so people behind me to pump their gas. After 30 minutes of inactivity, I pressed the start button, and it turned on as normal, and I was able to drive home. What's wrong with this model and year??? Is it a keyless access control unit and software issue??? HELP!!

On my 2013 Accord the engine does not always start. When it does not start I continue to hold the brake pedal down then push and HOLD the START/STOP button and it will start. This indicates that there is a possible problem with either the push button switch or the brake switch.

If i only has 46k miles, it’s probably using the factory battery which was recalled because it wasn’t giving enough crank amps. Replace the battery with a bigger one before buying a new starter. Dealership might do it for a free but make sure you get one with higher crank amps or you’ll just have the same issue later on
