THANK YOU so much Eric Schreier. I have a 2006 Jeep Commander and this happened every time it rained. I followed your instructions and found that the blue drainage tube had actually pulled up from the black rubber insert on the floorboards on both sides. It was draining directly under the carpets and not through the floor at all. So I cut the tips as you instructed and inserted them back in. Now I'm waiting for the carpets to dry completely and testing it with a cup of water to make sure they drain properly before putting all the plastic panels back. This has been a frustrating problem and I understand there is a class action lawsuit against Jeep for this design flaw. Much appreciation for your great video and consideration for us Jeep owners in posting it!
Thank you immensely! After trying other suggested fixes on YT (snaking it out, compressed air, soap/water) I had no luck. Spent couple hours on it and gave up. Your video came up in my list later that day and I just thought this looks too easy. And sure enough it was super easy! Oh, and my vehicle is a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee and fix is nearly identical. I thought I was going to have to take it in to get fixed. You saved me a few hundred bucks! And no mare worries about taking it into the car wash! Thanks again!
Thank you! Just performed this simple repair. I heard "sloshing" above my head while I was driving. I knew something wasn't right...opened the sunroof and saw a pool of water. Upon pulling out the plastic panels and pulling back the carpet, there was plenty of moisture. Again, thank you!!!!
I had this problem with my commander too. My local dealer didn't tell me about these tubes, they tried to blame the door seals. Finally looked up jeep forums and this sunroof problem was the first thing I found. Thanks for letting everyone know.
This is the best explanation of the problem and remedy on RUclips. It took me twenty minutes and I fixed both of the tube nipples. Thanks, it's a better solution than blowing out the crud with compressed air.
I know you commented years ago but you had no leaks in the carwash? I'm really scared to take mime through the car wash again after the mess that happened last time. haha
GREAT video! As a single mom that likes to save money and do things herself when possible, I really am grateful for you and people like you that make these clear, concise how-to vids! Worked like a charm, and holy crap, that water that drained out was fetid! Now I just have to locate the back two drains that apparently exist!
Dear GOD, I've been waiting for a video like this! I tried everything, blowing air in the tube, running a pipe cleaner in there, & even pouring Draino in it! (which I probably shouldn't have) This video changed the game! Thank you SO much!
Thanks for the tip. I recently got a soaked dashboard after a trip to the car wash. I watched your vid, did what you said, went back to the car wash...wa la no leak. You're the man.
Just tried this on my 2007 jeep grand cherokee. cant believe such a simple fix...this caused me so much stress having to continually clean the floor mats after having it supposedly repaired by 3 different locations! thank you so much
I have not had this problem yet, but seeing how easy it is to check and see if my drain tubes were blocked up. I went ahead and did the modification on my 2007 Commander just to play it safe. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
Great video. For real you are the only one with this fix. I'm in ny & it snowed & I had a block of ice covering my sunroof. I'm driving & next thing I know I hear a sound like someone pouring water into a glass & water starts leaking out the arm bars on the driver & passenger side. Next it starts leaking directly from the overhead panel where the sunglass case is at. I pulled over & immediately removed all the ice off the sunroof. The ice probably melted to fast & backed up the line. This was my second incident. The first was a year ago when we had a large downfall of rain & water was leaking from all over the place. Thank you for posting this.
SIR, YOU ARE THE MAN! Thank you, for doing this video, We paid the dealer years ago to fix this and now it just started happening again. Cut of the stupid filter bit to enlarge the opening and bingo!
Thank you for this video. I was frustrated by the dealership's inability to solve this issue. I've owned my Commander since 2007 and have had this problem since then. It took me five minutes on each side to reach the ends of the tubes and clip off the narrowing pieces ar the end of the grommet. Thank you, thank you, thank you!.
Thank you so much.... I have had my 2010 for a few months now and just had this happen last week and again this week. I just got home from lunch and applied what you showed to fix mine.... quick easy and to the point. Thank you
Thank you for posting this. Normally I wouldn't get on a social website or chat room feedback website etc. to voice my frustration in a way that would offend too many people. But I want to tell you all a story about my experience with my 2006 Jeep Commander. Once upon a time I stumbled into a local dealership and decided to purchase a vehicle. I chose a used 2006 Jeep commander. It was the first vehicle I ever purchased through a dealership. After taking it home for the night to try it out, I was happy with it and it seemed like a good car. It had 80k on it at the time and had not been in any accidents. So, after about a month of having it.. I generally park in a garage, I left it outside overnight. It must of rained all night because when I went to go to work the next day, there had to have been 4 inches of water in my drivers side door. I did not own a shop vac at the time so I took it down to the local car wash, feet suspended high on the pedal and vacuumed it out. I googled them and found this was an issue. That was in 2010. Now, on to more from this BS first year model commander. If you google an issue, I have had it, EVERY issue.. there is not one online that I didn't have. So, first was the water, followed by the electrical issues, then the manifold bolts breaking and onto the stereo recant screen working when it wanes, mostly during the winter? Other issues, front differential shot, interior door handles breaking off, EGR valve failure twice and throwing bad codes.. the drivers side window will not go up and down with any door open and the passenger window will not move regardless. If anyone has any advice on that, I'd be grateful. All I want to say is, I will never buy a POS Jeep, Chrysler product again and I will guarantee my kids won't either. This company could give a shit less after you bought the car. The builders from upper design to the assembly line should be damned to hell. I wish nothing but fire and fury to them for creating such a piece of shit. I've talked to several Commander owners just to hear their nightmares. What a pity to think that these manufacturers would build a quality product. F them and the horse they rode in on. Sorry, my rant is over
Thank you so much, Eric! My husband and I did what you showed on this video. Worked like a charm! We have gotten over 4 inches of rain the past few days and for the first time in forever the inside of my jeep is dry!!!!! Thanks
thank you sooooo much. i bought an 08 limited premium about three months ago. i was very stressed out about this problem because i didnt want the water running behind the dash to start causing electrical problems. its a gorgeous vehicle and i am positively in love with it. u rock!
Thanks a million Eric, as my 06 Irish Commander had a leak on passenger side.. Checked out both sides and WOW passenger side was blocked. This was after I seen water dripping down off the ceiling / window on the inside. Floor was damp for sure, cheers Greg
Thank you for putting this together and saving me a trip to dealership. I just finished fixing this problem. took me under 20 minutes to fix both sides.
Get this.....Took my 2006 commander to dodge dealership in my town where I live. The ignition would stick really bad but run perfect after that. And it did leak at that time. They said they could not replace the ignition or re key it.So I took it to a bigger dealer ship in the next town. It started right up. ran PERFECT all the way there. But the fan on the defrost would not come on.They tell me they do not fix leaks and we HAVE to take our car to their collision department. Collision department tells us it will cost "alot" to do the work. I look on line and see this video Thank God. It was having electrical issues because of the moisture. It dries out and runs perfect. So I am going to try doing this my self.Thank you for posting this! After the leak is fixed I am taking it to a shade tree mechanic and get my fan fixed.
Great video. Straight to the point and enough information. Just watched and cleaned out my daughter's '07 Commander Gutters. I don't know if you want to try this but I took a screen cut a square roughly 7"X 3" and adhered it to the frame to hopefully maybe keep debris from getting to the drain hose spout Thanks
Youre the best my man!! It worked!! I live in oregon and its been raining non stop for at least a week and now my Jeep is DRY!! no more overflowing on the passenger's floor!! 🥳🥳🥳🥳
Hey bud, thank you so much!!! Ive got a 2006 Jeep and could never figure where the leak was at!! Just did what you said on video!! Worked wonders....3 minute Job!!! Thanks for the info!!!!!👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
My 2009 jc was flooding major this pass two days. I just seen you doing all those steps and I started taking all the panels a part and with a pair of scissors and the job was done tanks for marking the video 👍
Thanks a lot for this! I've had this problem since I bought my Commander and thought it was the windshield caulking. Even brought it back to dealer after replacing the windshield for an unrelated matter, and no one there knew what the problem was. Easy fix!
Thank you! I bought a Jeep Commander last year and it was a nightmare with repairs and now it looks to be running good, but the sunroof leak's still going on and couldn't figure it out. Thank you!
I have a 06 jeep grand Cherokee and this worked just the same, cant thank you enough for this video Eric, saved me lots of money and time and you are the only one I've found with this fix!
Thanks for the share. This helped tremendously. Thanks to DenLor as well. Had to replace the door handles. Seatbelts, and windshield. This commander is a PAIN!!!
I can see why I didn't do the drivers side in this video. That main harness man. :D I have wanted to clean these tubes out but never had much time to do it, thinking I have to take the side handles off and everything. this video was amazing in just how easy it is. Both of my grommets where completely clogged. Cleared the clog and cut the ends. Yeah for having a dry floor back again. Thanks.
I followed this fix, used an airline from the bottom, keep the sunroof closed or the dirt and water ends up in the cabin. do not try blowing from the sunroof area, this only causes more blockages as most of the dirt is in the sun roof channel, just make sure you clean away the debris from the drain holes. Thanks, its so quick and easy.
THANKS!! THE ABSOLUTE ANSWER TO MY PROBLEMS..BEEN GOING ON FOR YEARS. TAKEN TO DEALER TOO. GREAT JOB!! MY MOMS JEEP IS A GREAT VEHICLE..BUT THIS PROBLEM SUCKS!! THIS VIDEO SHOULD BE SHOWN TO ALL THE DEALERSHIPS...WHAT A QUICK EASY FIX!! YES!!!!!!!!!
This video was really helpful. I just purchased a 2007 limited commander. I had the same 1inch of water. I've just made the changes. It rains tonight so we're going to find out😁
Thanks for posting this. I found this yesterday and made the fix in about 10 minutes. Almost looking forward to the next rainstorm. I couldn't believe how restricted the fittings the hose ended in were, nor the amount of gunk in there that had accumulated. Can't figure out why they didn't just leave it wide open at the end. It's not like it allows anything into the interior of the car.
what a great tip for Commander owners! thanks sir, I'll be performing this mod on my '07 tonight. Chrysler sure has some interesting designs sometimes.
Thanks a lot mate! You really helped! I have been to different car services but none of them could help me with this bloody leaking sunroof. I heard that it is not possible to fix it, or that I need to dismount all the insides to get it fixed and that it can be time consuming and expensive. After all I found your tip ... and now the water runs like in a waterfall :D. Apart from cutting these rubber things I also had to use a screwdriver to unclog a blue cable as a lot of dust/mud got stuck at the end of it, blocking its output. Anyway - now everything runs smothly :) BTW: Who the hell disliked this video? Probably jealous guys from your Jeep dealership ;)
Just joining the choir of praise. Leave this clip on you tube as I just thought I left the window open but now both front cabins are soaked and i saw the thousand dollar bill coming in... I will follow your advice, I am sure it will work as it makes so much sense and a non-handy person like me understood it and very confident to be able to do it... I will let you know whether I succeeded .. :-)
By far best drain fix video. Reason for that design is to prevent spiders/ bugs nesting on bottom of the drain. Now that it’s more of an opening, shoot some bug killer from the top to prevent them from nesting.
Thank you Eric for sharing this video and your knowledge. We followed your very good instructions and our problem is now fixed. We have two 2007 Jeep Commanders and it was only doing this to one of them on the driver side. We have been scratching our heads for years and have taken it in to Jeep dealers and car shops without getting our problem fixed. This was almost too easy-and what a strange design or did they just forget to pull the plug? LOL! Thanks again!!
Good job Eric. Seems strange that some of the dealers have no knowledge of these common Commander issues. Maybe they should have RUclips access to their service bays! Another common problem is the interior door handle cracking. If your Commander is plagued with the weak interior door handles check out DenLors Commander Door Handle Installation video. We've saved Jeep owners a lot of money over replacing the entire door panels.
just did this this evening shall see if it fixes the problem fully Thanks for the video. Hadnt dug into this fully before we purchased it and now i think the amplifier fried from getting those wire bundles soaked.
Mr. Schreier, thank you for the clip. I have a 2007 Commander and my driver side floor bed is wet. I will be taking it back the dealer that I bought the jeep from and have them fix it...if it still continues then Ill flow your steps.
hey great video man. i had the same exact same problem in my 07 i was about to buy a bunch of RTV silicone and redo my seals and then i found this video, thanks. btw i live in south FL and its been raining like hell lately
For anyone still having issues, there are drains in the rear of the sunroof as well. The rear drains have tubes that go back behind the rear doors in the C pillar. The rubber grommet is more difficult to get to but it is possible. If your hoses are old then they might be leaking. Best to replace the plastic OEM drain hoses with 3/8" ID vinyl tubing. You may need about 8 3/8" brass barbed fittings as well to fit the hoses to both ends, and just delete that red piece of garbage.
Hello, Just bought an 06 a week later its flooded, we followed chinzitos steps and still had the same issue the next time around, there are 4 tube at all 4 corners, they run down the seat belt pillar, also there is a law suite in progress, please look into it.
I bought my 2007 Jeep Commander 3 years ago from a dealer. I just started getting a leak on my passenger side this spring, but only when there is heavy rain or it rains all day in the hand bar holes. I checked my passenger side blue drain tube in the floor board. My passenger side had already been fixed apparently and the black rubber piece was already cut and the orange think attached was not there. So I went ahead and did the drivers side modification, because there was a collected puddle in the drain area of this side when I opened my sun roof to check it out. The drives black piece looked like yours did before it was cut and modified to make the hole bigger. I am wondering if the drain was clogged on the drivers side so the water naturally was trying to escape from the passenger side drain, but in large amounts of rain it was unable to do it fast enough? So I will see if fixing the drives side that wasn't even leaking out the hand rails fixes the left side leak!
I had water drops coming from both sides of the handle bolt covers. I followed these same procedures and it works perfect on both sides. Just recently the passangers side stars leaking again, I put some water though the top sunroof drain and it looks like is was draining fine, water came out without a problem so I guess is not clogged. Any other suggestions for this one?
Ok ppl. I am only owner of an 08 and have had best of luck and EASY to use weed wacker string plunging out drain holes. easy peasy. But I will ue the blade to open it up more, good idea. Thank you
Eric Scheier, can you tell me the model of the video camera you was using on this video? Nice camera, good video quality. Thanks for the video. It help a lot.
Thank you so much!!💯💯💯! Here we are in 2021 and this repair shop couldn't figure this out!

I applied this fix to my 2007 jeep commander. In less than 15 minutes it was fix. I even went through a couple of carwashes to check lol. Thank you!
I know you commented years ago but you had no leaks in the carwash? I'm really scared to take mime through the car wash again after the mess that happened last time. haha
Man you rock! I brought one of these home yesterday and noticed the driver floor was drenched. I just fixed both sides in 30 minutes.

Thanks so much! This problem has been driving me crazy for about 6 months now. Such an easy fix!
Very useful video. I just got a 2006 today and we had light snow and ice meaning there will water going into the drain soon. Great heads up!
This video was really helpful. I just purchased a 2007 limited commander. I had the same 1inch of water. I've just made the changes. It rains tonight so we're going to find out😁
How are you filming hands free? This is the best hf shots i’ve seen, even 11 years later.

what a great tip for Commander owners! thanks sir, I'll be performing this mod on my '07 tonight. Chrysler sure has some interesting designs sometimes.
I was having the problem for more than a year. It's an ease fix.
thank you.
Thank you so much for this. I've had standing water in my floorboards since I bought it in Feb. Glad I can finally fix that
Thanks a lot mate! You really helped! I have been to different car services but none of them could help me with this bloody leaking sunroof.
Wow that seems so simple but so vexing to some mechanics! I really hope this is the answer to our problem. thanks for sharing!!!
thank you so much for this video, was about to pay 250 bucks for dealer to fix it
By far best drain fix video. Reason for that design is to prevent spiders/ bugs nesting on bottom of the drain. Now that it’s more of an opening, shoot some bug killer from the top to prevent them from nesting.

Thanks so much. You saved me a lot of time, effort, and money with this one dude. Great Job!
Great video, saved me a ton of hassle doing this on my Commander today!
Mr. Schreier, thank you for the clip. I have a 2007 Commander and my driver side floor bed is wet. I will be taking it back the dealer that I bought the jeep from and have them fix it...if it still continues then Ill flow your steps.

I wish I was back home in Florida. I subscribed!
Great video -great fix for my 08 Commander. BTW, Semper Fi from one Jarhead to another!
so jeep spent millions trying to correct this problem and you sovled it with a 50 cent razor blade 😂😂😂😂
I did my passenger side, now to do my drivers side... i went to jeep 3 TIMES. they had no clue.

HOOAH Marine!!! You made my weekend with this video.
Hello, Just bought an 06 a week later its flooded, we followed chinzitos steps and still had the same issue the next time around, there are 4 tube at all 4 corners, they run down the seat belt pillar, also there is a law suite in progress, please look into it.
thank you! took maybe 20 minutes and that was at 9:30 pm!
Thanks, I will be doing this tomorrow moring. I have a 2008 jeep commander overlander limited. How do I reset the raideo to factroy? Thanks
