Until I watched your videos, I had no idea back country flying was a thing let alone possible. Thanks for opening my eyes. This is now on my bucket list.
I rarely like music overlay on an aviation video, but this is an exception - it works. Always loved Maules - I feel they are way under appreciated. Truly great aircraft. Thanks for sharing.
The band, Arcade Fire, is out of Quebec. I've grown to recognize and very much appreciate their distinct style of music - goes really great with your video! Thanks much!
I was lucky and started flying right around that age, I also think that backcountry flying is a great use of a small plane. Keep playing FSX; it is a great substitute till your ready to take some lessons!
Backcountry Aviation Really? I've been flying FSX for a couple of years and am about to have my very first 'real' flying lesson. It will be interesting to see what, if anything, I've learned.
FSX is great for training or maintaining "muscle memory", if you don't have to "think" about effects of controls, it frees your mind to concentrate on other tasks.
My husband owned a M-5 and later a M-7 235C I believe. Both versatile aircraft but no insulation I was always so cold in them. But incredible views almost the entire fuselage is transparent tell your first off airport landings. The M-5 was really reasonable to operate to. Great company.
Thats amazing. I love bush planes . Just couldn't think of anything better than to do this. I'll stick with my model Eflite timber . Thanks for sharing mate .
Horizon Hobby just released an RC version of this plane. It looks very sturdy and can handle the wind. Your video shows how rugged the real one is. I just ordered my RC version today. What a great plane!
Great video. loved the inset cockpit video. Fantastic scenery (not only the girl) great soundtrack. Thanks for sharing your experience out in the great wild.
It is so sad that a pissing contest started in the comments. This is a beautiful video of an aircraft that has proven itself time and again. It takes all types of flying to advance small plane aviation. It is great to have a passion for the type of plane and reason you fly it. Look at how many posted that this video, and if you look at similar videos, the interest that it has sparked in flying. If you are proud of your work horse plane do a video of it and what it does. It might also inspire many the possibilities and capabilities your plane has. Do not forget that it is flying in God's breath taking country is what this video is about. Get out and fly!
@freediverga Well I have a Carbon Cub as well and I promise it is amazing too! to answer your question I have been flying for about 18 years and I have around 7000 hours. I didn't have the opportunity to get formal backcountry training. I just inched my way in slowly and carefully. If I could have found an instructor in my area, I would have gotten instruction in a heartbeat.
Yea it was flaps. I wouldn't call it common, but in this case I over shot my desired touchdown point, but elected to continue to land. About 700 feet down the runway is a pretty good erosion point I wanted to miss. So I ditched my flaps and we were firmly (as you can tell) planted allowing full breaking. I would have rather touchdown where I wanted, but it is just one more tool in the box you can use.
Thanks so much, by far my favourite video!!! Too bad you can only like a video once- great pictures, great places and great flying- music fits perfectly too! I´m a bit jealous on what you´re doing to be honest :D
Loved it, especially in 1080P. Great camera angles. Loved the 2 camera shot on the one take off. Would love to see the locations show up in the lower third, but maybe you don't want to give your best back-country spots away. :) Maule is my dream airplane. One day...
How long have you been flying and what kinda of training have you done to do back country flying like. I look forward in doing that kinda of flying one day soon?
Where are your guys flying? Your vids are awesome. I've been in the STOL industry for 6-7 years maintaining Twin Otters and CASA's, but these things are just crazy. haha I'm looking to get into a husky soon, if that happens, I may have to move from the east coast. Where you guys are seems like a good time! Keep the vids coming!
@peterwinksalot No I didn't. It was closer than I would want, I did give up too much runway in the beginning, but was able to scoot right to avoid the rock.
Nice vids! Wish I could do that kind of flying in my Maule, but since it's on floats I get to go to some other places land planes can't. It's All Good!
The first Maule on floats in the world was rigged in Norway at a small company called "Norrønafly". I know, because I took part in building the floats and mount them on the plane !
I just came out of a C185 on amphibs.........I'm looking at the Carbon Cub, Mackey SQ2 and the M7 for hunting and fishing but need to be able to pack gear and game...........since you have 2 of the 3 (which is super cool!) who better to ask for some input ! Thank you!!
When I think Maule, I picture the Alaskan bush. I dont think of the south west. Your living the dream. A plane cost the same as a new ski boat. I pick the plane any day.
I had a very good friend of mine killed in his Maule between bethel and napkiak alaska, his head hit the rough water brace on impact, despite that a maule is still a nice bush plane and work horse, rip tom
Is there much (or any) commercial work for this kind of flying? By that I mean the whole tail dragger, two seater, in and out of crazy spots type of flying?
Yes there is but the Maule is a 4.5 seater. I say 4.5 because the optional 5th jump seat in the back is really only suitable for a child or very light adult. I built 4 cabins with my cousin quite a few years ago. You'd be amazed at what you can stuff in a maule.I've carried generators, compressors, a small 4wheeler,my dual sport bike, tons of lumber and when she was on floats I strapped way more stuff than I should've to the floats lol.
“The Cub-S performs brilliantly in difficult, remote operations,” said SportairUSA’s Bill Canino. “This is a lot of airplane for less than $125,000.” The first two deliveries are scheduled for November of this year. The Cub-S is the result of two years of study by Zlin Aviation in collaboration with experienced Alaskan bush pilots. This new airplane tops the Zlin line, which also includes the Savage Bobber, Cub, iCub, Cruiser and Classic.
Having a Maule M 5 235 c here in Europe. We a group of Austrian pilots named "Tiroler Gebirgspilotenvereinigung" doing some mountain flights in the Swiss and French alps, just missing the freedom to land everywhere :-( ......... like yo can do cheers from Tyrol, Stefan
@AirstripBum Yea I get that a lot. Search for Carbon Cub @ Delores point. I posted it in Oct. I got a lot of flak for that one too. My girlfriend asked me if I joined the cheer leading squad when I posted it : (
Just found this channel. Would you mind sharing a few of the ICAOs where you guys land? I'll understand if you have a few sweet spots you don't want to share. Merry Christmas!
Rashbomb01 Hmmm. Most if not all of them don’t have identifiers. If you had a particular spot in mind pm me and I’ll try to remember where it was. Some of that stuff is well over a decade ago for me.
With over 4,400 hrs of rotorwing time, thought I'd be bored by the :30 mark, not the case. Simply captivating!
Until I watched your videos, I had no idea back country flying was a thing let alone possible. Thanks for opening my eyes. This is now on my bucket list.
Wow. Don't ever watch Big Rocks & Long Props DVD's or youtube. That will have you buying an airplane and putting big tires on it.
One of my most favourite bushplanes!❤
I rarely like music overlay on an aviation video, but this is an exception - it works. Always loved Maules - I feel they are way under appreciated. Truly great aircraft. Thanks for sharing.
+moneylab ha! Thanks. Rarely do I get a compliment about the music. Typically it is quite the other way around.
The band, Arcade Fire, is out of Quebec. I've grown to recognize and very much appreciate their distinct style of music - goes really great with your video! Thanks much!
Living the dream ,and that song.. Thank You for putting that video together ! Nice work...
a week ago I had no idea what bushflying was and I have to say you are amazing pilots.
This is a great video. The planes , the scenery and the music is awesome. Thanks for sharing!
Growing up, this is how I imagined my free time to be like. WAY off the mark from reality.
I wish the FSX mule was this good... Only 13, but I really want to get into backcountry/stol flying! Your videos are an inspiration!
I'm ready to start practicing STOL in FSX.
Good for you, keep livin' the good life.
My husband owned a M-5 and later a M-7 235C I believe. Both versatile aircraft but no insulation I was always so cold in them. But incredible views almost the entire fuselage is transparent tell your first off airport landings. The M-5 was really reasonable to operate to. Great company.
it's just like riding a motorcycle, you have to dress warm for the conditions, they actually have a decent amount of insulation inside.
I'll take useful load over extra insulation. But you're right my M4 gets chilly in the winter.
One of my favorite flying vids of all time. What fun! Exuberant!
Maules are primo.
I have to say the Maule M7 is starting to win my heart over the Carbon Cub SS and the Super Cub!!!
What a brilliant video, I love the wilderness and I own a Chevvron here in the UK but we cant fly like you do.....so stunning and wild. Lucky people!
I ll buy my maule soon!
America is really a paradise for pilots.
u r lucky
Thats amazing. I love bush planes . Just couldn't think of anything better than to do this. I'll stick with my model Eflite timber . Thanks for sharing mate .

Just loved it. This is what I would love to do. This is simply great.
This is about as much fun as one can have on wheels.Great video!
Oh wow! To live in a country like that and to be able to explore it in such an aeroplane!
Looks like a flying tank ! Great great great !!!!!! Nice pictures!
just amazing stuff. I love your videos, they obviously take a huge effort and I am glad you do it.
Nice job! Way too much fun going on there.
Thanks!
A truly WONDERFUL video!!!
I loved this video and the way you use those airplanes to go where you want to go!! Thanx for sharing!

Great video. loved the inset cockpit video. Fantastic scenery (not only the girl) great soundtrack. Thanks for sharing your experience out in the great wild.
Amazing backcountry action. That Maule can play with the Husky AND carry a family

Did the dream come true?
Really enjoyed watching this video! Thank-you for sharing it on youtube!
@TirolCub Thanks, btw I may be flying the CE 560xl from time to time again. It will be fun, it has been a while since I have flown turbines.
How long have you been flying and what kinda of training have you done to do back country flying like. I look forward in doing that kinda of flying one day soon?
Flew volcano tours in one and love that airplane!
Beautiful.
Holly molly! Crazy awesome flying!
Awesome backcountry flying!!
Love the flying even tho it’s in the background.

Life can be pretty rough for some of us. There are no Whiskey Delta's flying with these boys and girls......
Great video! 👍
@peterwinksalot No I didn't. It was closer than I would want, I did give up too much runway in the beginning, but was able to scoot right to avoid the rock.
cool landings all .. skilled and amazing. Where are the take-offs? I'd bet some of those were lifted out.?
Lifted out? By whom?
First time I came in contact with a Maule...I knew that This was my future plane.
Gotta love it!
Loved the flying, but I also would like to know what the music is. Thanks.
+garyhope2 arcade fire rebellion

Hey man! You're having fun flying. That's what counts. Love it!
Oh the Maule xt-7, right rudder, right rudder trim set at full. Makes for a sore right leg after any flight over 30 mins.
Sounds like it needed to have its rigging checked.
Where is this at? (landing at 2:37) have a place that looks just like that near me! great video!
I second the comment just below! Great video
Music is spot on and not what we use to call elevator music
Nicely Done!!!!
Awesome Buddy!!!!!
Which model m7 are you flying. You hhaaave to have A military and commercial flying background to have 7000 Have logged.
Hey- I know y'all! Hope all is well...... Damn I need to do some flying like this....
Video was great and so was the scenery but music (no). What a great camping tool this aircraft is. Enjoy it while you can.
