This is an excellent episode on Apollo, which provides a different perspective to explain what makes Apollo unique and separate from the recent renewed interest in lunar exploration. Many people today assume with the latest advancement in computing and simulation power, going back to Moon in 2024 must be easier since it has been done 60+ years ago. Going to Moon is not just a technical challenge. People of this current generation have changed. Back then for Apollo the whole nation of United States was mobilized for one purpose of space race with USSR. Young people poured their life working 12-18 hours a day nonstop sacrificing even family for that goal. Nowadays, each individual career purpose and monetary reward take precedence. People also spend significant time on social app, political arguments, and other sophistication in life. It is just impossible to assemble a 400,000 people team with dedication and focus towards one unified goal.
Very touching documentary, thank you for that, I was eleven in July 1969, my father worked as a biomechanic engineer on the pilot seat shock absorbers and vibration control systems from 1956 to 1962 in Dayton Ohio, I was as a child so proud of America, when Apollo went to the Moon. Very sad, that there was no continued program.
Great documentary, thanks for posting. The only small nits, Apollo 11 Eagle landed late afternoon ET in North America and the moon walk was rushed to take place at 9:30 pm ET. It was not 3:30 a.m. anywhere in N America. Also, US was way behind Sputnik in 1957! Showing the Vanguard failure before Explorer 1 would have helped emphasize how far behind America was - and how amazing it was to see the US catch up and eventually pass the Soviets!
Unfortunately the commitment and dedication the United States had during this time is no where near like that today. Back then, there were goals. Now it seems the only goal for people is to gain social media clout.
Don’t forget the greedy corporations who want to line their pockets with as much money as possible and drag any project out as long as possible. It’s sad with what’s going on with the new moon project Artemis, them fools don’t have enough delta V to get people to the moon directly and will require extra rockets while in orbit and then do a weird orbit pattern around the moon that takes 6 days to come back around to the surface
The question of why we never went back is answered clearly here. Companies and contacts fell apart. People were fired and found new jobs. Because technology is constantly changing, you can’t just pick up old things and put them back together. There’s no other option than to start over. Test again and test again.

I wish president Kennedy could’ve seen the moon landing. Considering it was his idea. He would’ve been so proud
They used a hell of a lot of paperclips ! Lol! 😂
