I'm a valk/frost main, so I'm big into gadgets and the gadget style of play, and I kinda just feel like the more gun -centric meta gives me more options in how I approach fights, rather than having turtling being my only option. Idk, I'm having a ton of fun, and I haven't been able to say that in siege for a while so they're doing something right at ubi

@@Hanging_Pawn In some situations it was fine, but as someone who's had to content with Valk on Consulate peeking from 2F with a cam outside where not even my scan can reach it to find the damn thing, it was so utterly annoying to play against. It wasn't even fun, seriously anytime the map we got was Consulate I would hard push a Valk ban because fuck her on that map, and I use her! (occasionally)
At least on Chalet the area is small enough to not struggle too hard with finding it, but I've genuinely never found the cam placement on Consulate, and I was unable to anyway because it'd constantly ping me and I'd have to contend in a gun fight before I could even think of entering the building, and even if I won I'm still getting pinged, and in situations like a clutch to get into garage, it's an easy dub for Defense since they can still ping me on the cam.
I just have a vendetta against Valk on that particular map, it was impossible to play against, the only times I ever won those situations was just utter luck. I was personally happy they removed outside cams, I don't believe Defense should be allowed to have their utility outside apart from the default cams already there. But I understand I'm biased, but even so you have to admit it's not fun to play against that. Border, pre-rework Outback, Consulate, Chalet, so many maps became utterly awful to play as an Attacker solely because of Valk and her outside cams, removing that ability was a good change because now I actually enjoy being an Attacker. At least with Echo there's a genuine risk when you try to play outside with him, with Valk she essentially gets a free kill you cannot contest and I don't believe kills deserve to be free.

    • @Hanging_Pawn

@@ultimatepunster5850 that's why i said iq was needed some sort of buff either with frags or gonne six, back in the days when she used to have frags running her against valk wasn't a problem at all for me especially when echo used to be super strong too,it is all ubi fault that they nerfed echo and iq both which makes iq overall very situational pick, like right now bringing iq is just very useless against valk. Yeah true valk is kind of annoying operator to deal as an attacker but so does many defender in this game, example is Mira, azami,Solis or even kaid r annoying to deal as well. I personally don't think that removing outside cam where great change, they would rather added more counters to deal with valk or just buffed iq and nomad in order to deal with runouts and outside cams. Valk had this ability since day one and when they removed her ability to throw cam outside i was very pissed personally.
U should have buffed iq or added more counters to outside cams, but instead u made iq even more useless overall. By outside cams Nerf now and that's not a good change overall. Also they r many operators in game who gives u free kills like frost and even kapkan like that way I got many free kills from they gadget, so what's ur point?

I personally have always gravitated towards games that tend to be more complicated because I like problem solving and thinking as I play. That meta always was able to keep me immersed in the game. Something I think slips by the view of a lot of critics, whether it be actual critics, kapkan kyle, or aimbro69420, is that all games have a skill ceiling, and the longer a game is around the higher that skill ceiling rises. Which is why this nostalgia about 'old siege' is so common. Not many of us knew about all the little tricky vertical spots, all the run outs, the spawn peeks, I personally was new to the 'anchor' 'roam' 'shallow roam' roles and when I learned things like that I looked at the game in a different way. I vividly remember picking Rook back in Operation Para Bellum and just going prone on site and actually feeling like I was contributing.
Now I know how to set up a site, how to get off a site and retake it with my team, where to apply pressure on maps and where to ease off etc.-
What I'm getting at is the skill ceiling goes higher, and a lot of what we knew is thrown out the window in place of new knowledge, new tactics, and a new approach to the game.
And I think this is why 'old games' felt so amazing and nostalgic, because ignorance is bliss.

I always thought siege’s biggest issue was the number of interactions at play making balance impossible. Anyone that has played Halo Wars 2 knows what I’m talking about. With so many operators, gadgets, guns, scopes, etc, there is always going to be something “OP” which drives a constant cycle of nerfs which slowly ruins gameplay. It’s a hard problem to address and I don’t think I’ve seen a case I’d call successful yet.

The game is too complex and intricate to be played with randoms. Unless you know it inside out and can IGL randoms (and have the patience to) then you are stuck with the best course of action being taking gunfights and trying to tdm it. The balance and meta is in a very good place preciesly because no op can do it all now which wasnt the case a few years ago during utility soak meta. However because people suck at coordination and teamplay in general the only reliable strategy left is to kill everyone via gunfights. The thing that sets siege so far apart from other shooters is also the one thing that makes it unbearable in public lobbies with randoms. Playing as a 5 man with friends who want to learn and understand how the game is played is the funnest fps experience one can have. End of.

Indeed, it’s much more effective as an attacker is to just solo take parts of the map, for example on chalet I always take library or if they go down stairs I just walk down blue. I do my own droning, I do everything by myself including getting frags because randoms is such a crap shoot. On defense it’s much of the same, if I wanna anchor I run mute or castle and I try to set up the site and map so that I have as much control as possible. When I’m not doing that I’d run someone like orex or legion and attempt to roam as a defender. I’ve been playing for 7 years as a high plat/emerald player on PC and console. It’s honestly about just doing your own thing, and hoping your teammates can pitch in enough. Which is why solo is so difficult because often as a high level player you have to do more work then you should to win games especially against other great players or coordinated stacks

    • @theinfinityskull3619

I kinda wonder how fighting games solve this problem (fighting games are more my schtick). Because arguably fighting games are also quite complex and also suffer having completely different meta games depending on the level of play. And yet, they don't seem to suffer Siege's specific problem here.
Maybe it's because fighting games are allowed to be flexible for each kind of play. You can be new and button mash, and the game just works for you, but you can also be higher level with crazy confirms and case-by-case decision making, and the game will still just work. Siege on the other hand, might be forcing its complexity no matter what level of play.

@@goingindieEN it's extremely inconsistent and getting good comms with randoms is rare until champion where most of the players there are pros and comp players. Most of the time the reason people are in higher ranks are because they aim better. What tends to happen is an inflation of egos.

I think the knowledge gap newcomers have to bridge to access the competitive "smart" playstyle is so overwhelming and the accessibility of the headclick playstyle helps to keep it stuck in this weird limbo where people on either side have something to complain about and the game inherently divides the community. No solutions to offer just trying to explain the phenomenon.

    • @SuperPixelRush

Personally I left the game because of how casualized it became. None of the people who got me into the game still play either. Every update seemed to change gadgets to the point that they were near useless for the sake of allowing their casual audience to play it like cod. I got into siege because it was this fun balance of actually having to strategize combined with your individual gun skill, no one player could carry your team. I felt like I could contribute to my team even when I wasn't one of the good fraggers in my stack. I do not like this current meta and while I don't necessarily want to go back to the utility era, that's where the tactical part of the tactical shooter shines.

I like how Ubisoft finally handled toxic behavior. On console it use to be that most team killers when they are about to lose in rank they kill each other. They would even see your rank and judge your performance even though it’s just casual/quick match. It was a hassle for me to report all of them through Ubisoft Support every time, including the enemy team that team kills. Now all of those problem has been significantly reduced. Whenever I see the ban waves I feel relieved.

The gunplay prior to 2020 is a huge part of what made Siege not just accessible but also fun and satisfying. 2020 was a bad year for my Uplay friends list. If that movement and recoil were to return in the current meta it still wouldn't put a dent in the tactical advantage that ops like Azami give players. Easy to learn hard to master is THE reason why Siege blew up. Without the accessible gunplay component, its just hard to learn, hard to master, and it will suffocate under its own complexity.

The biggest issue that I have with siege right now is that, up until high gold low plat anyway, you can absolutely win games just by having a higher KD than the other team. And now that I'm only playing maybe once or twice a week, I'm hard stuck gold and have to deal with runout Ricky crackheading around the map and wiping out 3 of my team mates off the rip, or spending a full minute after the round starts trying to get the site set up because everyone else ran off to the other side of the map to try and find gunfights.
It's genuinely miserable to try and win in these lobbies.

This video landed in my recommended feed and THANK GOD I watched it. As someone who has less then 20 hour in RS6 This video cleared up so much. I showed up VERY late to the RS6 scene. I bought RS6 as a whim on a Steam sale and finally got around to playing it in 2021. I wanted to see what this still very popular and almost legendary FPS was all about. While I don't want to say my initial experience was negative I will say it was overwhelming. There were so many agents with different gadgets and guns and all the various maps with the entrances and exits and objectives. I was thrust into 6 years of content and gameplay and totally felt like a fish out of water. What other people saw as this rich gameplay experience I saw as complete and utter chaos! I was just a casual gamer who wanted to have fun and shoot stuff and while that was mostly true I will say my teammates were annoyed with the fact I knew and understood so little about the game. I don't think this game is bloated with content just that fact that its a complex multiplayer FPS with a steep learning curve. And more power to the people that play it! I play games like Path of Exile which are notorious for being complex but I can take those games at my own single player pace and not screw over my team for not knowing a critical piece of information. With that being said I'm sure a little research and a couple RUclips videos could clear some things up. And maybe one day I will get back into this game but for now I have other games to occupy my time.
TL;DR This game is really hard to learn especially as a new player and this video helped me understand that a little better

I honestly think siege has a really nice balance in gunfights and gadgets at the moment, it's just hurting from the individual balance of operators. In a more casual environment, the lower tier operators literally just feel like by being picked the player is throwing the whole game. Give operators like Thorn and Melusi literally just one more of their gadgets each, since they're just so bad right now.

i dont think siege is a gun focused or ability focused game. I believe both parts are equally important, but a problem i feel like is being swept under the rug and going unnoticed by players unhappy with balance is HOW ubisoft balances the game.
For example, Jackal has one of the highest attacker ban rates in the game solely bc of his ability. Its strong at countering roamers enough to warrant a 60% ban rate. Ubisoft, wanting to tune him down, nerfs the PRIMARY GUN instead of the ability. No one is banning jackal bc the C7E is overpowered, its because when they die to a ping, they feel frustrated and cheated.
Ubisoft cannot balance operators correctly, which is resulting in a plethora of problems players have with the game. Nerf things that actually do not belong in the game and buff the parts of the game that feel rewarding to play as and against

While back in the day if you picked an ACOG you had to be more carefull picking your fights at closer range, while doing the oposite with picking the 1x scopes. Another big thing is that alot of gadgets are able to be shot, while they usually took utility to get rid of. Think of the old meluci gadget.

I really feel like the problem is not only Siege-specific and it has to do more with how community embrace changes. Every competetive game that lasts on the market that long has some form of power-level creep (e.g. new champs in League) and drastically differs from the game it started as. And in every one community there'll always be a group that will miss previous versions. Also it's probably a tt/tik-tok echo chamber issue, as for example, I'm not encountering these type of convos myself in my online space. I, personally, am very happy that the game is changing, and not trying to be "old Siege", because with that level of complexity in the game, every change brings something new to learn and/or discover, and that's the primary reason why I started playing this game (and found your channel - keep up the good work). So, here's to (hopefully) another 10 years of Siege.

imo Siege had the best mix of gadget and gunplay when it was a tactical shooter and not like cod Search and destroy. I'm referring to the old r6, where attackers and defenders had distinct roles and abilities. Like giving the attackers an advantage, for example, by providing them with a higher zoom scope that is usable and doesn't cause the gun to jump uncontrollably i know crazy right never been done b4. However, to maintain a skill gap, the increased zoom could still come with more recoil. This would make it necessary for players to use their mouse skillfully to control their shots.
Since attackers approach from the outside, they should have some range advantage over defenders. On the other hand, defenders should be able to use their gadgets to keep the attackers off-site, and the gameplay should revolve around a slow intel game. As a defender, you would hold angles and play keep-away, while attackers would use their intel and gadgets to locate and displace the defenders from their positions to gain ground. its almost the game was like this then ubi just added characters that ruined it and instead of balancing the characters no we to change the entire game and make it worse because the next 2-3 characters fit the play style. I swear if ubi released siege rn as a new game as it is rn or anytime in the past 3 years even shit would've flopped hard ubi just dont know what game they are making anymore every braindead person on that dev team has their own version of the game they want with no regard for the game they are making

i think siege should be more gadget focussed but keeping gadgets within the realm of reality and for the gadgets not to be to overpowered (like how it is right now and has been for the last couple of years) it's a tactical shooter that was grounded in either real technology or possible technology, and now it's just cartoonish and lost it's soul and gunfights lost their slow deliberate encounters, before you could be both fast and fun but also play slow and methodically, i played a few months ago and just couldn't play both styles it was basically play one style or die.

I wasn’t super good at aiming but I had really good map and gadget knowledge. That always made all the difference because I could win gunfights by getting the drop on someone instead of out aiming them. Now I really don’t care if this game succeeds or not because I don’t plan on playing it more than once or twice a year. Quicker rounds, more aggression, more rapid progress through a map and quicker removal of utility are things I enjoy, I think they reward players or stacks who can make a decision early, make space for themselves, then execute the strategy. But I like the util game, because I’ve been playing with it for four years. I think it makes the game fun and dynamic. But I think Ubi is starting to take it too far. Maybe it better for folks that aren’t in their late 20s, but the time it takes to learn each defender, learn each map, know sight lines, know site set ups, learn which attachments are dog water, learn synergies, like holy god almighty, I was lucky enough to get taken in by a 3 stack to learn how to play half a decade ago. I don’t know how a new player could figure all this crap out. So the game definitely needs good, snappy gun play to at least entice new FPS fans to figure it out. Or maybe release a new patch where you can only play as the original OPs and like 1-2 maps. Ease new players into it, let them learn a smaller pool of OPs, let them learn club house, coastline, and Kafe, and let them ease into the game. Trying to figure out what 20 ops do is way easier than trying to figure out 50-60. Or just say fuck it make make Rainbow 2 and GET RID OF BLACKBEARD. To be fair that’s why they raised the required level to play ranked from 20 to 50, to force new players into putting more time into the game so they wouldn’t be completely thrown to the wolves, and also to slow down the amount of Smurf accounts in the lower ranks

Being honest, if you play solo queue, you can’t really rely on calls but sometimes on « logic » with hard breachers( usually if you try your allie will have low iq)and thus you need to play kills most of the time
If you play team yes gadgets are good to work with as a team, with calls(for exemple free kill if you’re iq and a mate calls where pulse roams while you would probably miss the spot early on without the call then can ying etc for plant)
For now I feel it’s balanced (as plat3/4) BUT for me the main issue is maps, most maps are getting rebuilt to be perfectly balanced everywhere for esport, where map advanced knowledge becomes unexistant out of vertical openings for « normal players ». we used to have unique maps before where you needed to think the place you were pushing/defending or not, where now you push and it’s « balanced »

admittedly I play very casually but I'm happy with where Siege is right now
I'll flip flop between between doing site setups with Goyo or Castle or do run-n-gun deep roams with Oryx and have fun either way

the problem with siege is its to bloated, they need to cut character's not keep adding new ones, adding more over the years has made the skill level to high to the average player

I fell in love with seige because I love the strategy aspect of it, now in this meta it’s just gun and gun which hasn’t made me fall out of love with the game but it may eventually make me fall out of love for the game

I don't really follow the pro scene and I mostly play casual, so I can't say for the current meta, but this season is really fun, and fun is the most important thing when playing games.

as a new player to seige (started y7s2) i quite like the feel of the game and how the gadgets and aiming both matter.

  • @pynconegaming

I agree, I'm also not the best at aiming, but I really like coordinating strats and executing them well. I think even though in 2020 the meta definitely shifted to benefit my playstyle of intel and coordination, it felt a lot worse. The newest season has struck a super nice balance between gun skill, intel, team coordination and gadget usage. It feels really intuitive and cohesive, like everything fits together now
I do also really like the new ops. They force different and also intuitive new playstyles/reactions that add to the game rather than take away from it. Although, if they keep going down this path for all the new ops, it's gonna end up being way too confusing for new and returning players once they start running out of good ideas
Overall this new season has been my favourite season in all of siege. Hopefully they can make some changes to make the intended way to play more clear, or force casuals into playing the intended way without changing anything gameplay wise. A tough task for sure, but Siege would get so much better praise once they can fix the issue with the divide in the playerbase (and also fix ranked 2.0)

There are 3 types of seige players:
Beaulo- Beaulo's are really good at the pew pew
Macie Jay- Macie's are really good at the iq
Roy- Roy's don't know how to play the game (although specifically in Roy's case, he's just hard trolling. Ironically enough he's still Emerald 2)

In my humble opinion as a casual player, one shot headshots feel kind of antithetical to a healthy gunfight meta, and it almost single-handedly gatekeeps the higher strategic elements at play. It sucks hard when I set up site using strats I've researched for hours, only for it to come crashing down round after round because someone clicked on my head the split second they detected another life form. When the ACTUAL meta strat (just headshot everyone lol) has nothing to do with gadgets at all and can't reasonably be counter played besides "get better at headshotting and headshot the headshotters" it doesn't motivate me to play better, it motivates me to play something else.

I feel this being mostly a utility anchor or intel gatherer in game. Most people would push me if I lose a clutch or whatever and sometimes people would point out my KDR stats, but yeah. It's just a bit wide is it?

Slowed down in siege as well when people started complaining about too much utility.
I liked this game because of that very thing that made it unique. If I wanted to shoot and scoot, there were other games that just did it better.
It didn't help as well when entitled pros like pengu kept ranting about "player frustration" and "omg I can't play the game" when he gets punished by gadgets-gadgets that are partially centric to the power of operators-you know, their "ABILITIES"?! Gadgets should be inherently powerful that when one gets hit by it, they should actually get punished instead of the devs toning it down to the point where people just shrug these off-it's like neutering punishes in fighting games when one keeps throwing out launchers or supers.
    People are getting exceedingly entitled.

yep, siege player didnt never know what they actually want. Slowing down the game and utility based, they complain because its too much utility and too strong, nerfing gadget and rely on gun they gonna say "this game is bad its just another cod copy". I mean dude, learn the game and the change they did instead complain over and over, the game change because you all ask for it and again the game need to change because you guys didnt want to keep play the same thing for long time, the current siege is fun and i really enjoying it a lot and i cant wait the next change they gonna do (frost and shield rework).
since you bring fighting game, the fgc always excited (and adapting) with new stuff and change in their game and its kinda put siege community to shame lol
