The stairs of the 800-year-old bell tower look very steep and a bit scary. I admire you for climbing directly to the top without taking a rest!

Yeah. Respect to anyone climbing the Belfry. We locals all go up when we're kids in school but I've never been up again since. There is 365 steps, one for every day of the year. 😁

As someone from Bruges, born and raised all I can say is. Dude, don't pour the mossel saus on the mossel... dip the mossel in the saus. Use the shell to hold the mossel and dip away. 😁

I was 14 or something when they make the movie, my school was in Bruges.. and we acually went on a walk with my class when they filmed the scene's of the movie. Within 2 weeks im going to the christmas market with my husband to show him Bruges, its crazy how fast time goes, to realize I was a kid when they made the movie, and now Im 27, and going to explore all the good stuff with my own family ☺️
My grandfather sculpted those statues on the city hall and the Belfort tower (0:19). After World War 2 a lot of those statues were destroyed or taken by the Germans so they had to rebuild a lot of the old buildings and statues. Took him about 20 years.
The Gothic style Buildings..one of my favorite...just so breathtaking!!!...and the the stairs...I would be breathless too but the view is amazing...so much chocolates all looking delicious...just a beautiful place...Thanks David and be safe....Peace and Blessings.

The Burg, the square where the town hall is the only square in the world where you can see every single architectural style from Romanesq up to present day. Every building is in a different style. When they wanted to build a hotel there people were in an uproar over it looking to modern, but had they not built it we would no longer be able to say you can see every style 'up to present day' 😄

To eat correctly the Belgian wafels you eat them nature or with powdersugar😅😅 the rest is for the tourists.
Indeed, if you see someone eat a waffle with a load of toppings on it, it's a tourist. It just doesn't belong on it. It's just a trick to make you pay threefold (or more), because a waffle itself is delicious and very cheap.
I totally agree! I’ve been living here in België for almost 3 years and I appreciate it more natuur or with powdered sugar. Luikse wafel is the best!👌🏻
in a "luikse wafel" the "parelsuiker" (pearl sugar) is already baked in, so no need to add anything
on a "brusselse wafel" powdersugar is sprinkled and you can add whipped cream
all the rest are tourist waffles
Use a pair connected empty mussel shells and you can use them as clambs to get the mussel out.

We, Belgians don't eat our waffles like that though, that's for tourists :)
I don't know when exactly those metal mesh things were added to the belltower but when I was younger they weren't there, so it is very well possible they were installed a while after the movie "In Bruges".

TIP: The way to eat mussels ...you need to take an empty mussel ( dubbel Shell) wich you use as a shopstick to pince the mussel meat out of the second mussel...thats the way to eat mussels .....enjoy..
the city i love . been everywhere you showed in the video and more . i grew up in torhout . i can't imagine myself moving to a place in the world that is further than 20min drive from bruges . i live in ostend now . living at walking distance from the beach is amazing , but not to far from bruges . i'm not rich but i don't need more than i have . we do plan our visits to bruges on moments that tourists are less visible . i love bruges so much that i hope , when i die i'll be in bruges an drop to the ground

great video ! funny to see how other ppl see Belgium. Glad you like our dishes even tho Belgium is not famous for his cuisine :) And also a little tip, when you eat mussles take an empty mussle shell to pinch the other mussle out of their shell ;) That's the "traditional way" to eat them ^^
One tip , you use the shells of an empty mussel like a gripper to eat the other ones . You use it too to dip in the sauce. Btw isn't that the guy of Bald and bankrupt going with you?

weird way to eat our mussels tho XD, we usually eat it with a fork for the first one but mostly with a good shell of an empty one, we pick them out the shell. lol you are eating them almost like oysters XD.and we dip our mussels in the sauce not por it over the mussel.

I am Belgian, I always eat waffles without anything, only the Brussels waffles would traditionally have some powder sugar and a bit of whipped cream, maybe a bit of chocolate. The giant towers on the waffles are pretty much a tourist thing.
tradionionally we eat the Liege waffle plain .....with toppings; that is just tourist in our eyes. On Brussels waffles we would do butter and icing sugar, or in summer with strawberries and whipped cream. then at least you have the taste of the waffle itself.

To be honest Greece isn't in the cards at the moment, and my next year or two are sort of planned out tentatively! I would love to go back one day of course because Greece is an amazing place. Like most tourists who visit Bruges, you walked from one tourist trap to another. No Bruges resident will ever visit any of the places you visit. Only old ladies eat waffles, we eat mussels without all those strange sauces on top and that pot of stew you ate from disgusts every Belgian. If we eat stew, it certainly shouldn't come from that pot of sh.. you saw. We eat our food on a plate and always with a knife and fork. We buy the best chocolates in affordable shops that you will find in every village, not in tourist dens. Maybe you didn't notice it, but not a single Bruges resident came to the cafes that were visited, they go to cafes where tourists are not really welcome without the guidance of a Bruges resident. A tip for those who want to visit Bruges, visit Bruges with a native of Bruges, you will visit places you can only dream of and you will taste food and drinks to remember forever. But we like the tourists, we make a lot of money from all those tourists who believe everything and eat everything and pay a lot for it, and they make super funny videos that make us laugh out loud.
