Didn't think id watch the whole 30 minutes since I am from Bruges, But it was very entertaining! Seems like you two really found the right way of exploring the city. If you like Bruges you'd like Ghent too, its only 25 minutes by train and has a lot of simular qualities. Def come Back during winter to feel the Christmass magic. Also if you get a chance' def climb the Belfry tower! it has 366 steps, 1 step for each day of the year! Once on top you have an amazing view of whole Bruges. It goes so far, you can even see the sea! (make sure you go on a clear day).
Aww I'm so glad you watched and enjoyed it even though you are from Bruges! Hopefully I portrayed your lovely city well! I'd love to visit Ghent! We just didn't have enough time this time! Maybe if we go back for Christmas one time!! Thank you for watching!
Thanks Claire, Bruges looks lovely, adding it to my list of places to go. Went to Brussels last year for a couple of days so looking forward to your next vlog, it's so easy to travel by Eurostar less stressful than flying (and greener !).
Great coverage of Bruges. I like how you divided and titled each section so I could refer back. Listing places I would like to visit. My son and daughter in law visited in 2023 and told me to move there. (just kidding). I have the opportunity to visit the first of October and looking forward to it!
Wow Bruges is absolutely gorgeous! Chocolate and fries whats not to love. A chocolate paradise; I know you were in heaven. Do you like the chocolate at The Ganachery? It is some of my favorite. What a lovely hotel as well. Thanks for sharing your time in Bruges with us.
Hahha definitely, you know me well! I've never actually been the the Ganachery! I need to go! Thank you so much for watching and hope you are feeling better
A lot of cities in Belgium have at least 1 beguinage. It was a way for single women to move to cities to find work-opportunities, whilst still being in both a safe and pious environment. They would later on, possibly find someone to marry and move in with them, or stay single in the beguinage and still have the possibility of being economically independent. They weren't nuns, so chastity was more of a personal vow than an official one, for those that lived there. As someone who has specialized a bit in queer history, I think it's also worth noting that, just like in nunneries, whispers about "lesbian-like behaviour" are quite prevalent. Most beguinages in Europe are now open to men as visitors. But some are still strict about gender when it comes to residents.
Loved that Claire, thank you. I've always fancied visiting Bruges & haven't got around to it yet? Its looks really fab, glad you both had such a lovely time x
Oh what a wonderful video yet again! It`s so lovely that you can travel to all these amazing places in Europe; being so accessible from the UK! I`m on the west coast of Canada; so not so easy (or as inexpensive lol). I love all your travel videos, and I learn so much from them. Looks as if you had an amazing time, and always nice to hear from Simon! ❤🍁
Aww I'm so glad you enjoy them and I especially love that you learn from them. That means a lot! West coast of Canada has its own little gems though haha I'd love to explore them more!! Have a lovely week!
Loved this! My family ancestors came from there. I have never been there, so this was a treat! By the way, I liked your hair this vlog. Looks darker underneath. Very cute.
29:03 : note the destination "zone Bruxelles". As almost always the ticket is valid for any station in Brussels. For the Eurostar to London you need to get to Brussel-Zuid / Bruxelles-Midi however.
The food in Belgium is more than chocolate, waffles and fries. I love chocolate and fries but I never eat waffles. Belgian people don't eat 'savoury' waffles btw. And the waffles with cream and strawberries are a tourist trap too.
Haha the same can be said for any country - lots of tourist traps. I never go to a British pub and rarely eat an english breakfast haha. Thank you for watching though!
Hey Claire..love this vlog and how you walk us through your experience!! I will be travelling to Brugge in June 2024 and i was wondering if we need to book the free walking tour well in advance ? Can i book it online?
The Flemish revolts (plural) extended way beyond Bruges, other cities in Flanders and the Duchy of Brabant were also involved. Heads were rolling left and right but in the end it meant the end for Bruges as mentioned by the guide. Antwerp had always supported Maximilian so it benefited most of the downfall of Bruges. The sanding up of The Zwin, Bruges connection to the sea, contributed to the decline of Bruges but wasn't the main cause. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flemish_revolts_against_Maximilian_of_Austria
Explorative, informative, entertaining! Everything I'd expect from a good travel vlog.

@@aclaireytaleyou should give the Ganachery a try. It has a velvety ganache inside each handmade chocolate.
