    It's crazy to me how many teams switch so easily and allow him to pick his matchup... He rarely really turns the corner hard off the pick the defender has time to fight thru. Hell teams might as well just start with their worst defender on him and just let him iso the whole game, maybe he will tire himself out😂

    On top of being one of best finishers and iso players. He is committing on passes more, playing passable defense and not complaining fouls/turnovers as much. A massive Dallas fan and having the winning streak, great shooting streaks and a great off-season helps too.

    • @DeanGl
      @DeanGl 11 месяцев назад +35

      The narrative about his defense has always been vastly overblown and the stats even from previous seasons prove it. But media guys will say oh but he doesn't pass the "eye test" if you bring up stats into the discussion. Yet they don't hesitate to massively hype up players like Ja Morant who, while being a great player in their own right, is not as good as Luka offensively AND defensively. Boggles the mind how the media can shape narratives.

    • @shamwaw336

People forget he's only 24 years old so - whilst he's always been the best player - this is the first season he's taken on a leadership role (being in exceptional shape from training camp, not letting his emotions get the better of him on the court, being a vocal leader).

      @@steviechampagne Even if does, the Mavericks will have to finish 6th place minimum for Luka to win, (and I wouldn't get carried away with the hot start,) otherwise it will be too easy to make the ''doesn't translate to wins'' argument. In fact, in the past 40 years, only 2 players have won MVP outside of a 2nd place seed; Moses Malone (1982) and Russel Westbrook (2017) were both 6th seeds. In all 38 other years (well, technically 39,) the MVP played for either a 1 or 2 seed. In light of that, I honestly don't think 30/10/8 would be good enough unless Dallas finish 1 or 2 (or at least meet the average wins of 60 games/0.730.) He'd need to average a triple double minimum if Dallas aren't contending.

    *"Will"* sounds a little too certain at the start of the season.
    Giannis won is 2x (back to back) and has been a high-tier candidate in subsequent seasons. Then Jokic won 2x (back to back) - and had a good case for a third - and led his team to the Finals last season. Embiid just won 1x while winning back-to-back scoring titles. Then there's also the matter of having your team win enough games.
    Meanwhile, players like Booker have iso offence comparable to Luka (although Luka is an objectively better facilitator) and the likes of Tatum is a clear step above on the defensive end of the floor as well.
    TL;DR - It feels way too early to call anything.

    Tbh Luka winning the MVP has nothing to do with his recent performance because he is been balling like that the past 2 or 3 years. What it comes down to is 1. can the Mavs make the playoffs (preferably as a top 4 seed)? and 2. what is Jokic going to do this season? because let’s be honest if he has yet another great (almost averaging a triple double) year and the Nuggets end up as a top 2 or 3 seed, I don’t see the voters being as foolish as they were last season and he will rightfully get his 3rd MVP, no matter what Luka does they won’t snub Jokic two years in a row

      I like Luka's play, but, when I see other teams, too, the competition is high. There are many excellent teams and players who don't hesitate to dunk on him, which means that he has less chance to rebound under the rim. The season just started, they won teams that play like coaches just gathered guys from streets to see what happens. The real teams still have to come.
      Luka rebounds more, but, people want to see him blocking under the rim. He could do that - as a kid in Real Madrid! It's a job for taller, not heavy and slimmer players. He could only lose leg and feet joints if he'd regularly jumps that high.
      Luka even improved his attitude towards refs, which I like. He raises hand on ref's calls, which is rarely done in the NBA. I don't know if that'll stay the case when better and more competitive teams come and games get heated. Will he burst? Will he flop? I'd be desappointed if he'd do those two, but, keeping his temperament under control during heated games is very hard.
      Many games are waiting for Mavericks. I hope everything is OK and that the whole team stays healthy, so they can provide an excellent games for the top! Not just for the MVP player. If other players are healthy and can help him, Luka will play easier and better. He won't drop dead on court, doing everything by himself.
